Hyperdrive is a minor antagonist in the Transformers franchise. The original version of the character was based on a figure from the 1989 toyline.
Marvel Comics[]
Hyperdrive first appeared in Issue #56 of Marvel US' Transformers comic as a member of the Decepticon Micromaster Sports Car Patrol. He was characterised with a brutish personality and penchant for violence. He and the rest of the patrol were working for Megatron, who was secretly building a powerbase on Cybertron. They transported to the Ark, where Hyperdrive expressed his distaste at sneaking around. They approached Ratchet disguised as Autobots and convinced him to come back to Cybertron with them, saying there were new techniques there that could revive the deactivated members of the Ark crew. Hyperdrive, Detour and Road Hugger departed with Ratchet, leaving Blackjack to plant a bomb aboard the Ark.
The trio delivered Ratchet to Megatron, with Hyperdrive expressing disappointment that he wasn't dismembered. When Detour subsequently got into an argument with Dreadwind, Hyperdrive encouraged his fellow Micromaster to beat the other Decepticon up. He made his last appearance at the conclusion of the arc in Issue #59, where Megatron sent him and the rest of his troops after the Autobot Classic Pretenders Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee, who Ratchet had managed to bring back online. The battle took them away from Megatron's base and they watched from a distance as the base exploded as a result of the bomb from the Ark being teleported there, apparently killing both Megatron and Ratchet.
