Hypnobot is a major antagonist from the Sonic Boom cartoon series, appearing as the main antagonist of the four-part episode "Robots from the Sky." He was a robot created by Tails for a robot fighting tournament against Knuckles. However, the robot is inadvertently shot into space, turns sentient, and sets out to eradicate all living creatures, believing that his creator betrayed him.
He is voiced by Travis Willingham, who's well known for voicing Knuckles the Echidna in the same series.
Appearance[]
Having been created in Tails' image, Hypnobot is a yellowish-orange robot with an ellipsoid torso, a dome shaped head with a pair of goggles, two sharp fox ears, and a silver mouth. He also has thick orange forearms arms with grey boxing-glove like hands. Both arms are connected to his torso via large red wires. He also has orange boots, and a pair of engines on its back resembling Tails' twin tails. Most notably of all is how he has a large antenna attached to his chest, whose sole purpose is to control other robots.
Biography[]
In an attempt to show Knuckles up at a robot fighting tournament, Tails had created the Hypnobot, whos primary function is to take control of other robots in the tournament. During the tournament, however, Dr. Eggman managed to override the robot's coding and take control of it. He then used it to take control of some of Tails's other creations. Team Sonic, however, managed to retake control of Hypnobot using Knuckles's robot, which couldn't be hypnotised by it. As the heroes were delighted over having gained a new weapon to counter Eggman's schemes, Hypnobot was seemingly blown up by a different robot.
It turned out, however, that Hypnobot remained intact, but got thrown into outer space by the explosion. He waited for his creator to save him, but to no avail. Eventually, he was picked up by a group of robots from the floating city of Morristown, who took him in, repaired him and granted him sentience. As a result, he believed Tails betrayed him, and plotted revenge against him and all organic creatures as well. He used his mind-control powers to both enslave the population of Morristown and make robots on Earth attack their masters. Sonic and Tails headed into Morristown to discover the source of the robot uprising, but were captured and brought before Hypnobot, who explained to Tails how he ended up there. His creator, who was initially unaware that his robot survived, apologized to him, only to be brushed off. Eventually, Sonic kicked him off the edge of Morristown into a frozen lake, freeing all robots from his control.
Shortly after, however, Hypnobot was recovered and reactivated by Dr. Eggman. Feeling gratitude to the villain for not leaving him behind, the robot accepted an alliance with him. Together, he and Eggman invaded Morristown and started brainwashing its robots. Hypnobot went as far as to force Mighton to attack Sonic. This was the last straw for Tails, who up until that point refused to hurt his creation, as he finally attacked Hypnobot, deactivating him for good and saving Sonic and all machines he brainwashed.
