I is a minor antagonist in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. She is the Consul of Colony Mu, disguising herself as Fiona's lieutenant and best friend Irma.

Biography

Little is known about I's origin, although from notes kept in her hidden base, she served as the Consul for several Colonies both Kevesi and Agnian before becoming appointed to the Agnian Colony Mu. In a plan to make its soldiers grow stronger and thus strengthen their life force, I organized raids from Kevesi colonies to attack Mu. Not enough to destroy it, but just enough to pose a threat. Following the previous commander's death, I appointed Fiona as the next commander out of admiration of her asking for changes to the colony. Using her illusion magic, she took a false identity named Irma, who eventually became Fiona's lieutenant and friend.

Behind Fiona's back, I, as Irma, would deceive her friend by using her magic to summon shadowy Volffs made by her illusions to attack the locals, some of which kill Fiona's friends from the colony. The Ouroboros come assist the colony after rescuing Fiona who passed out on a nearby beach. Irma pretends to be innocent, but eventually the team put the clues together and believe someone may be deceiving Fiona.

With her charade exposed, Irma takes control of the soldiers through their irises and has them attack Fiona, but Noah and the others knock them out. Irma appears and admits to being the one in charge and distracts the others with her Volffs. I reveals that she did this because she wanted Fiona to become stronger by hurting those closest to her, which make a quality flame. She also reveals that she learned nobility from Fiona for she never once gave up.

Lanz lunges at I, but Fiona holds him back for I was still her friend. I proceeds to shoot Fiona and Lanz, ordering Fiona to get up and fight back. Fiona offers to fight by her side if that was what made her sad, beckoning her to stop calling her desires a dream. I proceeds to tell Fiona more reasons to hate her, such as revealing how she was the one who killed her friends. Fiona grudgingly grabs her banner and charges at I, who proceeds to transform into a Moebius.

With help from the Ouroboros, Fiona defeats I and she reverts back to Irma. As she lies dying, I tells Fiona that she was thankful for having Fiona for a friend. Despite all the horrible things she's done, Fiona tearfully mourns I.

In Fiona's ascension quest, she finds a box hidden within I's hidden base containing objects from their time together, further suggesting her genuine friendship with Fiona. It is also implied that I intended to die to atone for deceiving Fiona and the others.

Trivia

• I is the only Consul who is encountered without wearing a red suit from Origin, only seen wearing it in a flashback, although her helmet can be found in her base.
• As the Consuls are named after the first letter of their original name, it is possible that I's original name was Irma, but this is unconfirmed.
• Oddly, I's eyes are yellow, but are blue when seen wearing her helmet.
