Ian Pedersen is a minor antagonist in the 2015 survival horror game SOMA. He was a PATHOS-II Software Engineer stationed at Site Theta and one of the crew members helping Catherine Chun carry the ARK to Site Phi.
He was voiced by John Chancer.
History[]
On July 8, 2103, Ian Pedersen was interviewed by Catherine Chun about his expectations on the ARK project. He told her that it was a great idea and that it would finally give the PATHOS-II personnel something to do. At first, he seemed positive about the ARK's chances of reaching space after being launched. This optimism gradually changed, however.
Sometime later, Ian began to doubt the ARK's chances of making it to space. He asked his colleague Sarah Lindwall how they would make sure the ARK makes it; she told him that every launch is a crapshoot and that the numbers he was concerned about were just a pack of data.
On December 25, 2103, Ian and his colleagues Catherine, Sarah, Nicolai Ivashkin, and Jasper Hill all left Theta and headed for Site Omicron with the goal of completing the ARK project by launching it into space with the Omega Space Gun. Once they arrived, they scanned the Omicron personnel, put themselves into power suits and went down into the abyss using the climber, headed for Site Tau.
When the ARK Team arrived at Tau, they scanned the remaining five crew members of the site and left for Site Phi in order to launch the ARK.
On December 27, 2103, they arrived at Site Phi. However, Ian decided that they shouldn't launch the ARK, as he didn't want to risk it being destroyed on the way to space. Catherine disagreed with his idea of keeping the ARK down at PATHOS-II, which led to a heated argument between them both. Catherine took the ARK and attempted to load it into the Omega Space Gun, while Ian chased after her and bludgeoned her with a wrench (intending to immobilize her) which resulted in her death, much to Sarah and Jasper's shock.
The ARK team decided to postpone the launching of the ARK and returned to Tau to figure out what to do next. However, they never came up with a new plan and Ian ended up succumbing to starvation in the living quarters of Tau, as Sarah and Jasper comforted him. He apologized to Catherine in his last words.
In SOMA[]
Simon Jarrett can discover Ian's corpse on a bed in the living quarters of Tau, covered by a blanket. His CCRV-7 Blackbox can be mined in order to hear his final moments.
