~ Ice Finn upon meeting Finn the Human and Jake the Dog. |
Ice Finn, the Farmworld version of Finn Mertens, is a minor antagonist of Adventure Time and a minor character in its Max adult animated spin-off Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.
He is an alternate version of Finn the Human that was born when the mainstream Finn wished that The Lich never existed. However, this inevitably leads to Farmworld's Finn to find the Ice Crown that Simon Petrikov got in the original timeline and use it in order to save his family from the ruthless Destiny Gang, becoming his reality's Ice King in the process.
Like his prime counterpart, he was voiced by Jeremy Shada, who also voiced one of the Business Men and the Squirrel in the same show.
History[]
Creation[]
In "Finn the Human", when the prime world Finn wishes for The Lich to have never ever existed to Prismo, Finn creates a different timeline known as the Farmworld Timeline, where the Mushroom Bomb that created the Lich never detonated thanks to Simon Petrikov's sacrifice, leading Earth to keep going with all of humanity never learning about magic. Thus, rather than an adventurer like in the Land of Ooo, Finn Mertens was a poor farmer boy alongside his father, his mother and his little brother, owning Jake the Dog as a normal dog and a mule named Bartram. For unknown reasons, Finn either lost or was born without an arm, needing a mechanical prosthetic one.
However, things changed one day when Finn gets told by his mother to sell Bartram in hopes of paying up the Destiny Gang, whom his father has seen himself indebted to. As he tells Bartram what he must do, the mule accidentally takes Finn and Jake to the cave where Simon Petrikov's Ice Crown-wearing corpse and the frozen Mushroom Bomb lie down, protected by the elderly Marceline Abadeer. Finn comes up with selling the Ice Crown to avoid selling Bartram, and though Marceline warns him to not do so, Finn dismisses her warnings as a product of her senility, taking advantage of Marceline's laser gun not working and Jake barking at her to steal the Ice Crown.
At his town's marketplace, Finn gets the Ice Crown stolen by the Destiny Gang, with their leader Big Destiny even putting it in his underwear, but refusing to accept it as payment because "all properties from corpses belonging to him", taking both the Ice Crown and Bartram as his prizes. Angered and worried about Marceline's claims now, Finn ventures into the Destiny Mansion to retrieve his mule and the crown, so Big Destiny gives them back only to reveal that he resorted to order his men to burn down the market and his family's farm. Finn quickly leaves with Bartram, catches up with Jake and Marceline and go to the farm, but Big Destiny has already trapped Finn's family inside. With no other option, Finn dons the Ice Crown to use its magic to save the day.
In "Jake the Dog", picking up after the previous episode, it's shown that Finn becomes his world's Ice King equivalent, using his powers to put out the fire, freeze the Destiny Gang and throws ice shards everywhere, but because of that, the Mushroom Bomb is finally reactivated and detonates, creating a mutagenic pool that claims Marceline's life and mutates Jake into this reality's Lich. Realizing that he has gone too far as the Ice Crown is slowly brainwashing him, Finn asks his parents and brother to go away as far as they can with Bartram and tries to do the same with the Destiny Gang, but opts to "protect" them by freezing them again. He then goes to rescue Jake from the pool, but he becomes the Lich, leading the prime world Jake to wish to Prismo to alter the prime world Lich's original wish to ensure everyting returns to normal.
Multiversal Threat[]
In "Crossover", despite the Farmworld reality apparently ceasing to be due to prime world Finn's original wish never being wished technically, it turns out that the Farmworld timeline still exists within the Multiverse and that Ice Finn and his Lich are still active and a threat, as they have found the Enchiridion of their reality and plan to use it to open a multiversal portal which they could use to take over the Multiverse, a plan that if succeeds, would lead to catasthrophic consquences, forcing Prismo to enlist Finn and Jake to go to the Farmworld timeline and stopping Ice Finn with a special weapon known as "The Maid", despite Finn's reluctance to hurt his variant.
As Finn and Jake arrive to the Farmworld timeline, it's shown that Finn has apparently encased all of humanity in ice blocks since the last time he was seen by prime world Jake, even adding his own family to his collection and also Bobby, the Farmworld counterpart of the prime world Billy whose powers are necessary to open the portal. Declining to use the Maid and instead stop Ice Finn non-lethally, Finn tries to steal the Enchiridion and Jake distracts Ice Finn with his powers, but the Farmworld's Lich soon arrives, having retrieved the jewels they need for the portal through possessing Big Destiny, whom Ice Finn freezes when he tries to escape, leading him to discover prime world Finn and freeze him too while his Lich neutralizes Jake.
With all the jewels, Ice Finn and the Lich open a portal to all of the Multiverse's realities, but the Lich reveals his intentions to kill him and his families in every reality from now on, much to Ice Finn's dismay, who can't freeze the Lich because he took off the Ice Crown's main jewel for the spell. With no time to lose, Finn manages to cut off the Lich's hand before he gets to kill Jake, giving Ice Finn enough time to close the portal and retrieve the Ice Crown's jewel. However, Jake traps the Lich within himself and Finn takes the chance to remind Ice Finn of who he used to be, imploring him to ignore the Ice Crown and truly save everyone.
Seeing the error of his ways, Ice Finn accepts to help and he and his prime world variant activate the Maid, which erases the Lich from this reality and restores Farmworld's Jake to normal. Having accomplished their mission, Finn and Jake are taken back by Prismo to his domain, despite Finn's attempts to talk to his Farmworld counterpart, who in turn discards the Ice Crown for all the trouble it caused. However, after being convinced by Finn to help, Prismo opts to rewrite the Farmworld timeline to make that Ice Crown get destroyed by the Mushroom Bomb, allowing Ice Finn to return to normal and reunite with his family.
