Idomu Yudaiji is an antagonist from the anime adaptation of Clamp School Detectives.

Idomu was voiced by Akira Ishida (who also voiced Gaara from Naruto) in Japanese and Langley McArol in English.

Personality[]

Although kind and willing to make friends as a young child, Idomu was greatly troubled by his mother being alienated from him after his parents' separation, not even being allowed to keep a picture of her. It's also implied that Idomu was made to suppress his emotions, as he thinks to himself that he doesn't know how to cry, even when visiting his mother's grave.

Biography[]

Background[]

Idomu is the heir apparent to the Yudaiji Group, Tokyo's second most prominent zaibatsu after the Imonoyama Group. During his early childhood, Idomu's parents separated, and he was effectively alienated from his mother, not even allowed to keep a photograph of her. One summer, Idomu was allowed to see his mother at a summer resort, which was also where he befriended Nokoru Imonoyama (though they didn't learn each other's names at the time). One evening, Idomu's mother bandaged Nokoru's scraped knee and smiled at him, which caused a deep-seated resentment within Idomu, who felt that such a smile should have been his.

At some point, Idomu's mother died of an illness, which likely exacerbated Idomu's grudge against Nokoru.

Events of Clamp School Detectives[]

After transferring to Clamp School's elementary division and making a hideout for himself within the campus's clock tower, Idomu lures Nokoru's friends and fellow School Detectives, Suoh and Akira, as well as their respective girlfriends, Nagisa and Utako, to the campus's amusement park. Idomu then commandeers the amusement park's attractions to corral all of them onto a Ferris wheel purportedly rigged to explode, before luring Nokoru himself there to save them, though the "explosives" turn out to be fireworks.

As the Detectives try to figure out who was behind the amusement park incident, Idomu hacks into their computer and informs them that he plans to steal the school's "baron" at 3 PM, despite it already being well past that time locally. Hours later, minutes before midnight, Nokoru realizes that the "baron" in question was actually the Detectives' "balón," their blimp, and that 3 PM was in Spain's time. The Detectives are unable to retrieve their blimp in time, and Nokoru is forced to blow it up before it can cause any mayhem. Idomu, surprised at Nokoru's willingness to go to such lengths, laughs in amusement.

In the days that follow, Idomu causes more "malfunctions" around campus, such as draining the pool, closing the library's emergency shutters, and replacing the planetarium's stars with the school seal (a cartoon pufferfish); he also causes a brief blackout that allows him enough time to entrap the campus's monkeys within an old campus waterway. It is at this point that Idomu formally introduces himself to the Detectives, offers his "help" in finding the culprit, and takes his leave, though not before directing one final glance at Nokoru. When Nokoru goes into the waterway to rescue a straggler monkey, Idomu (wearing a motorcyclist's outfit) confronts Nokoru, swears revenge on him for "stealing [his] mother," and warns him that there will be more "challenges" to come before entrapping him in the waterway, though Nokoru manages to escape with Suoh and Akira's help.

As time passes, the incidents begin to weigh on Nokoru, causing him to lose concentration with his student council tasks, which in turn causes tension within the School Detectives. Idomu exacerbates this by implicitly staging malfunctions that look like clerical errors, culminating with a chemical explosion in a science classroom that injures Idomu's leg. After Nokoru takes a leave of absence and disbands the School Detectives, Idomu (this time hiding in the shadows) confronts him again, only for Suoh and Akira to reveal that their hostility towards Nokoru was a ruse to flush him out. Idomu runs away and Nokoru pursues him, only to lose sight of him.

After placing posters slandering Nokoru all over campus, Idomu hacks into the campus's weather control machine, causing a campus-wide fog. Under the pretense of offering help, Idomu asks to join the Clamp School Detectives and even responds to a voice-altered prerecording of himself that he programmed to call the student council office. Idomu is allowed to accompany Nokoru to the weather control center and helps restore the computer back to normal, which in turn triggers Idomu's computer-made video of "Nokoru" taking responsibility for the incidents occurring around campus. Sometime after leaving the weather control center, Idomu meets Nokoru at a certain tree, knowing that Nokoru has figured him out as the culprit.

After reiterating his grudge against Nokoru, Idomu carries out his final plan: stealing something precious to Nokoru by using a computer virus to shut down Clamp School itself. He also lures Utako and Nagisa into the campus's subway (which he kept operational) and entraps them on a malfunctioning, runaway train, giving the Detectives one hour to find him and the vaccine software he created. After the Detectives manage to save Utako and Nagisa, Nokoru is able to get onto the runaway train and find Idomu, who admits defeat and gives up the vaccine software, although he vows to challenge Nokoru again.

The train, however, has gone completely out of control and the only way to stop it is to manually disconnect the lead car, which Nokoru volunteers to do with Idomu holding on to him, only for Idomu to lose his grip on him. As Idomu prepares to die aboard the train, Nokoru, who managed to get back onto the train, disconnects the lead car and rescues Idomu. Idomu fully accepts his defeat and reconciles with Nokoru, telling him that he will go abroad to study the piano.
