|~ The Illusion Saiyans to Tenshinhan and Yamcha.|
Shorty and Scarface, together known as the Illusion Saiyans, are a minor posthumous antagonistic duo appearing in the Saiyan Saga of the anime-series Dragon Ball Z. They are the central antagonists of the episode ''Pendulum Room Peril''.
Shorty was voiced by Yukimasa Kishino in Japanese and Phil Parsons in English, while Scarface was voiced by the late Daisuke Gōri in Japanese and Mike McFarland in English.
The Illusion Saiyans are two Saiyan warriors that fought for King Vegeta's Saiyan Army. They were low-level soldiers and possessed the same abilities as their comrades. They fought many battles, one of them being the long and brutal Saiyan-Tuffle War. At some point later, they were probably either killed in battle while trying to conquer a planet for their King or later Frieza, or they died when their planet was destroyed by the tyrant. However, their fate is unknown.
Many years later, 6 months after the Saiyan warrior Raditz was killed by Piccolo, the five strongest warriors of Earth (Tenshinhan, Krillin, Yamcha, Yajirobe and Chiaotzu) were already been training with Kami and Mr. Popo in Kami's lookout in order to become stronger for the upcoming invasion of two even stronger Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta, that would occur in 6 months. In order to give them a test of what they will face, Kami decided to let them use the Pendulum Room in which they can travel back in time. Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Krillin and Chiaotzu traveled many years back in the home planet of the Saiyans, Planet Vegeta. At the time, the planet was ruined and it's population reduced, probably because of the destructive Saiyan-Tuffle War.
The Illusion Saiyans quickly detected them and laughed at their combined power level of 1,507 claiming that it was nothing for them. Shorty appeared suddenly grabbing Chiaotzu's head and crushed it, killing him instantly before throwing into a pit. Enraged, Tenshinhan rushed to avenge his friend and attacked Shorty with a combination of punches and kicks but the Saiyan easily avoided them and punched him in the face. Scarface then punched him in the back and grabbed him from behind attempting to kill him. Yamcha managed to save him by throwing his Shokidan at them but it had no impact at all. The three remaining warriors attacked together with their best techniques and it seemed they had won. However, the two Saiyans survived and laughed at them. Scarface ambushed Krillin and gave him a brutal beating underground before sending him in the air where Shorty finished him with a double axe handle to the back. Desperate, Tenshinhan and Yamcha used their last resort, as Tenshinhan split into four and prepared his Kikoho while Yamcha prepared a huge full power Shokidan. They both blasted the Saiyans who tried to avoid them, but that blasts connected and it seemed that the duo had won but the two Saiyans appeared once again and attacked both of them. Scarface then used his Kankousen technique and impaled Tien and Yamcha, killing them both. The duo laughed and disappeared while the earthlings suddenly opened their eyes, realizing that it was all an illusion. Kami then warned them that these two Saiyans were actually weak ones compared to the two that were on their way.
Powers and Abilities
The Illusion Saiyans were both strong possessing all the basic abilities the average Saiyans have, like flight, enemy waves, durability and super-human speed that gives the impression of them teleporting in a green light. They are also shown to have the power to manipulate heat as shown when Shorty killed Chiaotzy and when Scarface tried to kill Tenshinhan. They easily disposed of the strongest Earthling warriors who at the time had been training for over 2 months in Kami's lookout and took no damage at all from their attacks. They even laughed at a combined power level of 1,507 implying that their own combined power is much higher. However, Kami described them as weak Saiyans. This could be due to them being from the past, when the Saiyans weren't that developed or simply because they were low-levels like Raditz compared to the elite ones like Vegeta and Nappa.
