Ilon Tandro is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Dax".
He was portrayed by the late Gregory Itzin, who also played Charles Logan in 24.
Biography[]
Ilon Tandro was from Klaestron IV. His father had been a general during the planet's civil war, who was killed when his party was ambushed after their position was betrayed. Tandro had never known his father, but grew up venerating him as a war hero.
Tandro was determined to find the person responsible for his father's death and learned that the only person who knew his father's route who had been in a position to alert the rebels was Federation ambassador Curzon Dax. On learning that the new host of the Dax symbiont, Lieutenant Jadzia Dax, was a crew member on Deep Space 9, he attempted to abduct her using information on the station provided by the Cardassians. When the station's crew foiled him, Tandro announced his intentions and produced an arrest warrant.
While the Federation had an extradition treaty with Klaestron IV, Deep Space 9 was in Bajoran territory so Commander Sisko insisted he had to make an application to the Bajoran authorities, convening a hearing on the station. Sisko argued that Curzon Dax was dead and Jadzia shouldn't be forced to stand trial for crimes allegedly committed by her previous host. Tandro however believed that the Dax symbiont should not escape punishment by moving on to a new host.
In the end, the argument was rendered moot: Tandro's mother Enina interrupted the proceedings to provide Curzon with an alibi, since he had been in bed with her at the time the message was sent. The arbiter dismissed Tandro's application and Tandro turned away from his mother when she tried to approach him. He remained unaware of the truth that his father was the one who had betrayed his party only to be killed with the others.
