The Incubi are hostile species in Berserk. They are created from the blood and sexual fluids from humans who died with hateful malevolence whilst expiring.

Appearance[]

The Incubi are small squid-like creatures with multiple slippery tentacles that they use to absorb fear from humans. They appear to have one large eye in the middle of their bodies, with on the upper side a bulbous head.

Behavior[]

The Incubi act as simplistic animals whose main motivation for their deeds is to simply sustain themselves by consuming fear, just like normal animals do by eating food. Yet the reason as to why they do it is in fact different.

Because they are created out of the remaining life fluids from malicious humans, who couldn't accept their own death. They act as tortured spirits who continue to spread suffering, just like the evil humans who unintentionally created them.

History[]

Whenever an evil human suffers a death from an outside force that was against their own will, the blood and sexual fluids from that human exceeds a normal physical form and transcend to the near parts of the highly spiritual and otherworldly, Astral World. Because the humans they came from had a negative impact on other people and since they suffered a death that went against their own accord. The Incubi surpass these evil humans' post-death, so they can keep making innocent humans feel suffering.

Because they completely rely on making humans suffer, instead of living in the Astral world with other various strange creatures, they live in the Interstice, which is a border between the abstract Astral world and the concrete Physical world. In this way they can travel from this border to the normal word, while being totally invincible to regular humans, because their bodies are created in a completely different plane of existence. The only humans that are capable of seeing them are people that have the brand of sacrifice. A mystical marking that makes any human with it an offering for demonic creatures, including the Incubi.

Etymology[]

The name Incubi comes from the Latin word “incubo”, which means “nightmare” in English. The popular depiction of Incubi in the modern times is a demon that takes the form of an attractive man to have sexual contact with sleeping women. In Berserk they are genderless creatures that aren't humanoid, but instead more parasitic.
