Indra is a minor antagonist in the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok and a major character in its manga spin-off Record of Ragnarok Forbidden Legend - Apocalypse of The Gods.

Indra is the Hindu God of Lightning, as well as one of the few Gods who, when the Hindu Pantheon was divided into clans, lived alone. After being defeated by Shiva and Rudra, Indra became a member of the assembled Hindu Pantheon as Shiva's subordinate. He is also one of the 16 Gods who participate in the Apocalypse Tournament to win the last place in the Gods Fighters of the Ragnarok Tournament and the possibility of creating a new law in the Constitution of Valhalla.

He is voiced by Noshir Dalal, who has also voiced Vice Admiral Rampart in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Charles Smith in Red Dead Redemption 2, Adrian Graye Vernworth in The Owl House, Sandayu Oda in Cyberpunk 2077, Bode Akuna in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Mysterio in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, in the English dubbed version of the anime adaptation. However, it is unknown who dubbed him in the Japanese dub.

Appearance[]

Indra is a God with the appearance of a tall, muscular man, with a mulatto complexion and with messy platinum white hair on his face covering his eyes. His torso and forearms are covered in a fleshed-out red pattern. He is barefoot and wears long white trousers with a long orange mini tied in the middle. He almost always has a cigarette in his mouth.

Personality[]

Indra is a calm and confident individual, even slightly arrogant as he was willing to fight against Shiva and Rudra in a 2 vs 1 match and faced the Four Beasts all together. However, he is also capable of recognizing the power of someone when he sees him, as he has acknowledged his defeat at the hands of Rudra. However, if he sees a one-sided conflict, Indra already takes the final result for granted and appreciates those who prove themselves equal to his strength.

Indra knows how to be supportive of both Shiva and the other Gods of the Hindu Pantheon. Indra believes that his Pantheon is made up of madmen, which is why he respects Shiva for having managed to unite it and has set himself the goal of reaching his level. Indra is well aware of his limitations, to the point of knowing that Zhuque, who was able to counter his Vajira technique, is too strong for him and cannot defeat him without using the "Third Blade", and he is proud to be able to face opponents who push him to the limit.

Biography[]

Indra is the Hindu God of Lightning who, when the Hindu Pantheon was divided into clans, lived alone. One day Shiva and Rudra decide to try to climb to the summit of Svarga to make Rudra King of the Hindu Gods, and after defeating several Hindu Gods they find themselves fighting against Indra. Indra agrees to fight in a 2 vs 1 match, but Rudra insists on fighting him alone and, in the end, manages to defeat Indra. In the end, after defeating all the other Hindu Gods, Shiva defeats Rudra, who abandons the Svarga immediately after, and becomes the King of the Hindu Gods before all the other Hindu Gods including Indra.

Millennia later, following the proclamation of the Ragnarok Tournament, Indra participates in the meeting of the Gods' Council in which Zeus announces the Gods Fighters that would fight in the Ragnarok Tournament representing the Gods. When many Gods become angry at the absence of their names, Sun Wukong points out that one name is missing from the list, and it is at that point that Zeus announces the Apocalypse Tournament between 16 Gods to win the last place in the Gods Fighters and the possibility of inserting a new law into the Constitution of Valhalla.

Indra also participates. While waiting for his match, Indra witnesses the battle between Cú Chulainn and Ra-Horakhty, which ends with Cú Chulainn's victory. When it's his turn to fight in the Round of 16 against Zhuque, leader of the Four Beasts, Indra is joined in the arena by Qinglong, Baihu and Xuanwu, Zhuque's three companions, who want to kill him or prevent him from entering the ring so that his opponent can win by disqualification.

Indra is not afraid and faces them, managing to defeat all three without being injured. However, Xuanwu manages to hold him down until the moment of disqualification, but surprisingly Zhuque reaches them and, bringing a camera with him, decides to face Indra personally inside the arena. Zhuque manages to put Indra in difficulty and predict his moves, which pushes Indra to use the "Third Blade", the technique designed to defeat Rudra, thanks to which he manages to defeat Zhuque, seriously injuring him, and expressing his pride at having been able to fight him. In the Quarter Finals, Indra will face the winner of the match between Morrígan and Nezha.

Some time later, during the Ragnarok Tournament, Indra and the other Hindu Gods find Rudra in the stands of the arena during the Fifth Round and, together with him, witness the fight of their leader Shiva against Raiden Tameemon, seeing Shiva emerge victorious after having unleashed the Tandava Karma. At the end of the Fifth Round, Indra and the other Hindu Gods reach Shiva in a state of disrepair in the corridors and, here, they see Shiva admit to Zeus that he now considers Humans fantastic.

While Shiva is hospitalized in the infirmary to repair the three arms cut during the Fifth Round and follows the other matches of the Ragnarok Tournament, Indra and the other Hindu Gods go to visit him to make sure he is well. At the end of the Eleventh Round, which ends with Simo Häyhä's victory over Loki giving the Humans a 6-5 lead, Indra and the other Hindu Gods go to buy candy, only to find Buddha buying it all before them.

Powers and Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: Indra is one of the strongest Hindu Gods of all, although he is inferior to both Shiva and Rudra, having lost in a single battle against Rudra, although Shiva believes that Indra is now much stronger than when he was defeated by Rudra. Furthermore, Indra is strong enough to have been chosen by Zeus as one of the 16 Gods to participate in the Apocalypse Tournament to take the final place in the Gods Fighters of the Ragnarok Tournament, and to be able to defeat Zhuque, the leader of the Four Beasts. As a God, Indra possesses physical abilities far greater than those of any ordinary Human. His body cannot be damaged by mortal weapons, however it can still be damaged by unarmed attacks by individuals with superhuman strength and by Divine Weapons. Furthermore, Indra cannot die due to old age.

Divine Strength, Resistance and Agility: Indra has high-class physical strength, demonstrated by the great force behind his strikes and the damage he can deal to foes. Indra main attribute however, is his titular "lighting fast" speed: he can move faster than what even the trained eye can perceive and with the aid of electrokinesis, has uttermost reflexes. Indeed, Indra was able to defeat Qinglong, Baihu, and Xuanwu with rather incredible ease thanks to his greater combat strength and skills. The Thunder God was even able to keep up with Zhuque and surpass him on a few occasions, as he was not only initially able to land two successful hits to Zhuque's chest and face, but was also able to land him a punch even after getting his right forearm wrecked and his backside stabbed. Indra possesses remarkable resistance, as although Zhuque inflicted several devastating wounds on his body with his blades, Indra remained standing and still had the will to fight, eventually even managing to defeat the opponent.

Master Combatant: Indra is a veteran fighter who has noteworthy experience in many-on-one fights. He is an adept fighter who has excellent offense and evasion. His fighting style is Vajra, in which buries himself in electricity as his arms join together in synchron, conditioned to the point he considers them weapons comparable to blade, to strike his targets. As he attacks, the Thunder God's opponents get electrocuted as a consequence. It consists of two main phases: "move" and "attack", called by name Lighting Fast – Preemptive Strike and Lighting Fast – Counter; first phase, Indra first moves quickly and then strikes the opponent faster than they can react; second phases, as a counterfire is usually attempted by them after the first phase, he strikes them faster before their attacks of their own can reach him. However in the brief moment between the two phases Indra is vulnerable, and an opponent like Zhuque, known for his tremendous intellect and is a fighter with great reaction time, noticed his miniature weakness and was able to take advantage via that and gain the upper hand. He has honed his techniques in hopes of defeating Rudra, but he knows he is no match for him, which is why he developed a secret technique, the "Third Blade", Vajra Astra, which he first used against Zhuque to defeat him and with which he hopes to defeat Rudra.

Atmokinesis and Electrokinesis: Indra seems to be able to unleash thunderstorms and summon lightning whenever he wishes, and can also use lightning to light his cigarettes. In Vajra, Indra engulfs himself in electricity to increase his already "lighting fast" speed even further, while amplifying the potency of his attacks.
