"WHO DESTROYED THE COLONY"
~ Inferno's after noticing that his stasis pod is destroyed
For the royalty!
~ Inferno's battle cry

Inferno is a major antagonist in the CGI series Tranformers: Beast Wars. Originally a Maximal protoform, he was reprogrammed as a Predacon who would eventually become Megatron's second-in-command. His beast form is a giant fire ant that, because of faulty programming, causes Inferno to be fanatically loyal to Megatron.

He was voiced by Jim Byrnes who voiced Thrust in Beast Machines

Biography[]

Inferno was a Maximal protoform aboard the exploration Axalon, however the ship was shotdown by a Predacon, forcing Optimus Primal to eject Inferno's stasis pod with many others down to earth.

Inferno's pod was found by Tarantulas before the Maximals or any other Predacon could recover it. Tarantulas started putting in a Predacon shell program into Inferno and tried to make to his pod scan another spider, however the pod had already scanned a fire ant and was implementing that as Inferno's beast form. Because of this, combined Tarantulas rushed reprogramming of the protoform hurting its logic circuits, Inferno came out believing he was an actual fire ant and that his stasis pod to be his "colony", without the Predacon loyalty program in, he subsequently attacked the Predacons as well as the Maximals to defend his colony.

After being blown to bits, Inferno was captured by the Predacons before the Maximals. Inferno was then rebuilt and outfitted with the complete Predacon shell program, making him loyal to the Predacons, he subsequently recognized Megatron as his master and called him his queen, which annoys Megatron. Other than this, Megatron highly appreciates Inferno's insane vigor for destruction and violence.

Inferno took Scorponok's place as Megatron's second in command when Scorponok fell to his death in the lava pool. At the end of Season 2 (where most of the Predacons are seemingly killed), he was apparently killed by an energon explosion, but although he was seemingly vaporized, he is shown to have survived in Season 3.

In the final episode of Season 3, Inferno was killed along with Quickstrike when Megatron (uncaring to their presence) used the weapons system of the Nemesis ship to shoot an energy wave at the village. His remains were later scavenged and used as tools by the protohumans in the final scene; his tail thruster was used to cook food and his severed head was transformed into a bongo drum.

Characteristics[]

The ant has a faulty programming. But his loyalty is without question.
~ Megatron assessing Inferno to Dinobot

Due to his reprogramming, Inferno has no hobby, no personal ambition, no love interest, and no personal life. The Predacons' hegemony and serving its leader Megatron loyally are the only two things Inferno has in mind. Everything else is irrelevant to him.

He believes he is is a fire ant as such he refers to the Predacons as his colony, his fellow Predacons as Drones and Megatron as the "Queen" or "the royalty", the former term greatly annoyed Megatron.

Inferno is an extremely capable and powerful berserker, and even relishes in the sadistic pleasure of burning his victims alive. His ability to fly, very high endurance, dual cannons and ability to take 2-on-1 coupled by his bloodlust and rage can easily outmatch most Predacons and might even threaten Megatron (before Megatron gained his transmetal form). However, his loyalty which is an instinct inherited from the fire ant and a result of his predacon reprogramming, prevents Inferno from ever conceiving such a thought. Because of these factors, Megatron views Inferno as 'a pawn that has more values than other pawns'.

Trivia[]

  • Inferno and Scorponok were the only two Predacons who were genuinely loyal to Megatron and never betrayed him at any point, this may have been because he was reprogrammed to be loyal to the Predacons, combined with his ant-like mentality.
  • Inferno learned to only address Megatron as "Royalty" because Megatron liked the term out of ego and "Queen" was insult as Megatron is male.
  • He is valued more than Quick Strike by Megatron, having been spared testing a booby trap.
  • Though his official bio states Inferno has no hobby, he's seen playing cards in episodes like Changing of the Guard.
