The Infinity Franchise is the main antagonistic force in the first chapter (and likely the upcoming chapters as well) of the Lisa: The Painful fangame Lisa: The Pointless. Not much is known about how they came to be. All we know is a group of people dug infinity jerseys out of the ground and started to wear it in order to "seem hard through association". However there was a certain supernatural element to the jerseys that made the people wearing it to become "infinitized" and start to be violent and bloodthirsty. With how hopeless and nihilistic the world has gotten in the post-apocalyptic world of Olathe, more and more people join the franchise as a form of escapism.
Description[]
All infinity franchise members wear infinity jerseys, giving them the nickname "jerseyheads". The infinity jersey is a red & green sports jersey with a green 88 written on the front and back. They are made from a company called "Kung" which is a Taiwanese knock-off brand of the luxurious "King Corporation". They were made when King was working on a type of jersey, so Kung started making knock-offs of it. However King never released the product so Kung made an entirely original product by mistake. The jerseys were considered a failure and due to a PR catastrophe they buried all of it. Similiar to how the jerseys are supposed to represent something that doesn't exist, jerseyheads relay themselves and their identity to a non-existant entity.
They seem to operate with a tier system called "folds". The more kills you get, the higher fold you are. 8 kills is required for the first fold of infinity. However, you don't need to wear the jersey in order to enter the first fold. Just senselessly killing 8 people in an area infested with infinity will do. All kills have to be consecutive and senseless in order for it to count towards your folds. After that you need 16 more kills for the second fold, 24 more kills on top of that for the third fold and so on. The final fold is the eleventh fold, for which you need 88 kills for. Making your total 528 kills. It is currently unknown what happens after you reach the final fold.
When you reach a fold you are sent to the "Blood Lake Dimension" and meet a bureaucrat. The only one we've seen yet is Daniel Grind but there may be more. They give you an avatar that you must kill and as a reward you get stronger.
Non-jerseyheads see the franchise as barbaric and look down upon them, most people aren't able to see the real threat jerseys pose until it's too late. Even though most lower-fold jerseyheads are weak and don't know how to fight, their real strength comes from numbers. With how susceptible the men of Olathe are, they are easily influenced by the franchise propaganda made by people like Stefan Kindchild. The only way to stop it from spreading is with an organized group like the Rando Army. If not stopped, it will spread like wildfire until entire towns are just nothing but people brutally killing and maiming each other for no particular reason (like what happened with Downtown Olathe).
Although some jerseyheads are perverted and violent even before wearing the jersey (like Anaconda Virtue), most people join the franchise to not be left out (like Derb Wesley Jr.) or to seem tough (like Alcohol Keeth). However the more folds you gain, the more isolated you start to be. The highest folded franchiser we've seen yet is Arnold Shpitz (around ninth fold) and he seems to have lost all sorts of individuality and become a mere vessel of infinity. Saying that he is "no one in particular".
History[]
Lisa: The Pointless[]
During Alex's journey, the infinity franchise is first mentioned by the residents of Garbage Island. Pat Mercury describes the franchise as being "rude". Alex can also find piles of burnt synthetic fabrics all across Garbage Island. He doesn't know it yet, but these are infinity jerseys burnt by Rando and his army in an attempt to stop the influence of the franchise from spreading.
Later when Alex and Joel escape from Garbage Island and goes to House Dust there is a box full of infinity jerseys that he can pick up from. There is also a dead jerseyhead named Bobby. When interacting with the corpse, Petre Grams will say that he's "chilling" and that he "worked himself silly digging up all those clothes." After they go to sleep, they will find the box empty and everyone headed to Garbage Island. Implying that they are bringing the jersey back to Garbage Island. And with the Rando Army gone, there isn't anyone to stop it.
While walking through the endless wastes, Alex can find the skeletons of two jerseyheads. One normal skeleton and one siamese twins skeletons.
Downtown Olathe is when the Infinity Franchise is first properly introduced. Upon entering Alex will see hordes of jerseyheads meaninglessly fighting each other in the background. The music, Land, has a hopeless and dreadful aura to it. Everywhere is splattered with red & green. There are graffitis of the number 88 everywhere. Some people hung the jerseys as flags. There are piles of meat all over the floor. Whatever remains of this place has been completely infested by the franchise. Upon going further, Alex and Joel will see a group called "The Marauders". Rusty Tamers says that he thinks of joining them. Miroslav Smirnoff says that the franchisers are trying to enter some type of trance and cryptically says that "masses will shift again" then clarifies himself by saying that no one is having fun. Later returning to the area they'll see that Miroslav has been killed by a jerseyhead named Zill Rachmanov.
Continuing further, Alex and Joel will see members of "The Game", a group split into a bunch of gangs fighting each other over turf for entertainment. However unlike the franchise they do it in non-lethal ways. Doyle Muscare will say that the franchise will burn itself out (Ironic considering he joins the franchise later on). They pass by a mountain of corpses composed of jerseyheads, presumably killed by members of the game. They can also see a crippled franchiser named Aron Richter, whom throws one of his crutches at Alex. Alex can either return the crutch or take his second crutch. Doing the former leads to him throwing it again and latter just has him drop to the ground.
Alex and Joel can later descend to what remains of a school basement and see an infinity propaganda poster. Going to one of the rooms they see Arnold Shpitz for the first time and witness him killing a franchiser Joy Mutant named Lardo with a few punches. He then glances at them and walks away. Exiting the basement, they see two jerseyheads named Vinny Ramón and Lin Rhodes hitting a basketball with baseball bats back and forth at each other. The ball comes towards Alex and he and pops it, initiating a fight. After killing them, they enter an abandoned metro station and see the illusive Anaconda Virtue. He tells them how he sexually violated a rat. Alex doesn't know how to respond, then Anaconda walks away. Going further they see Douglass Fiat beating a dead man with a rock. He talks about Arnold and how he joined the franchise to share in his genius. Coming back to the place, he jumps on Alex and attacks him.
The writing on the wall
Going into one of the caves they see a strange green writing on the wall talking about the first fold of infinity. Below the writing is a crater on the wall. Some force is beckoning to Alex from beyond the wall. If they have killed 8 people, there is a hole where the crater should be and they can enter it. They exit from a giant pumping heart with a blood spilling pipe in the middle. They are in the Blood Lake Dimension. Going further they see Tido T. Swiss, a person they've seen in House Dust. Now he's wearing the jersey and apparently has amassed 8 kills in Garbage Island. Going further they meet Daniel Grind, which congratulates them for achieving "the first fold to infinity" and tells Alex to kill his inner child. Alex becomes shocked and refuses it. So he instead tells him to kill the "avatar of his hatred". He can either do it or run away.
In another one of the caves they see a franchiser named Alcohol Keeth saying "the cave is with the franchise now." And that makes him feel more intimidating. On the other side of the cave they see Lil' Roodie Whitehead contemplating whether or not he should join the franchise, thinking it'll make him safe. Above him is Howard Al Azif, and he talks about how it is irrelevant who first wore the jersey saying "one franchise, infinite kings." Above him is a little shack with Bangimantas Žudys in it. Exiting the place they see Anaconda Virtue sneaking around. They follow him so he attacks them and runs away. Exiting the cave they are stopped by Alcohol Keeth attacking them and saying it's his first time being violent.
In another cave, Tuber Valentei says that he is the "real modern day ouroboros". On the other side they see Wabar Borgolio on the floor, flailing. He tells them that his best friend betrayed him over a skateboard and dies. Going forward they see a jerseyhead named Chriss Belluci sitting on top of a car. Alex still doesn't know how jerseys work, so he assumes that Chriss is affiliated with Vinny and Lin since they wear the same outfit. He tells them how he killed them in order to intimidate Chriss, but he has no idea who they are and is not impressed due to how desentetized to violence he has become. Chriss elbow drops them, initiating a fight. After the fight, they can then pick up a skateboard indicating that he was Wabar's best friend. On their way back they see Tuber biting his own feet, solidifying his claim.
Heading east, Alex and Joel see the jerseyhead Kirf Dinkle standing over a presumably dead Puebli Tanner. He calls over to Arnold to no response, then attacks. After killing him, they go inside a building in which they see two franchisers named Mes Tez and Wing Sping harassing Lester Bean. Lester is annoyed by this, and pulls out his sword and kills them both with one slash. Alex and Joel come up to him and he's excited to see normal people. Next to him are three wanted posters of Anaconda Virtue, Stefan Kindchild and Jessie Mack. When asked he says that they are the most evil type of person: MOOCHES. Going back they will see that Puebli was faking being dead. Going further they see the jerseyhead Kein Felton saying that he becomes more tender with every fight.
Descending down a dried salt lake through a rope, Alex and Joel find a marauder jerseyhead named Ham Radar. He says that he's in the worst place to be mortally wounded in. Later coming back they find him dead. Further down they once again see Anaconda Virtue. Wanting the bounty on his head, they initiate a fight. Anaconda reveals that he's able to use pyrokinesis in this fight. He's able to escape once again. Alex and Joel chase him, and find him next to several burnt corpses. They are able to kill him for real this time, and bring him to Lester.
Exiting after picking up some cigarettes in a cave, Alex and Joel fight another jerseyhead named Wilbur Sin. He drops the keys to a door in the school's basement after death. Going to the previous area in order to open that door they see a lot has changed. Doyle Muscare has joined the franchise and killed his friends. There is another franchiser named Luca Bariga selling (probably human) meat. The mountain of jerseyhead corpses have their jerseys missing, implying that people took the jerseys in order to join the franchise. Going into the door they get ambushed by an amputee franchiser named Clyde Cyclone. Going out through a ladder they see two franchisers. The Kent is beating up Tibby Dobbs with a bat. Immediately after starting a fight with them, Kent kills him in one blow. Derb Wesley Jr. later joins him in this. They later see another franchiser named Chet Blur who ambushes them with a knife.
Going further, a group of jerseyheads in a car attempt to run them over. After this they find a vandalized billboard advertising the infinity jersey. The billboard shows a basketball player wearing the jersey with the Kung Company's logo on the side, indicating that the jerseys were a normal piece of clothing made by Kung at some point. However most of the advertisement has been ripped apart, with the words "THE INFINITY FRANCHISE" written over it in neon green paint.
They eventually come across what used to be wheatfields. The words "DADDY MACK IS BACK" is written in blood. There are piles of meat everywhere. Some people's heads have been put on spikes. This is Cherry Village, the territory of Jessie Mack's clan, a former "The Game" leader now under the influence of the franchise. Attempting to go further in the houses above will lead to one of the franchisers in the area warning them with a look. Going further anyways leads to the trio of Senyor Keister, Jessie Mack and Alejandro Babbage attacking them. After killing them, they are able to go into the houses. In one of the houses they see one of Mack's sons Tay Mack hiding under the basements with a Rando Soldier named Derek Smith. He reveals that one of his brothers went missing and his father went out looking for him. However when he came back he had already defected to the franchise. In another house they can find multiple children's drawings ruined with the word "meat" written on them with blood. They can pick up Mack's corpse and bring him to Lester. As a reward, Lester gives them 16 tomato sauce packet for the 16 kids Mack had.
In another area they once again see Arnold Shpitz. He gets stopped by one of his fans named Derf Pigtails, Arnold responds to this by blowing his head of with a single punch. They also see the last Lester's hitlist: Stefan Kindchild, which is being carried around by Chandler Sinclair. He wears a TV on his head which flashes between the words "MEAT", "KILL" and "88" in red & green. Upon defeat he quotes the poem "In The Desert" written by Stephen Crane. They bring his corpse to Lester and he gives them two of "Moe's Special". Going back, they see another jerseyhead, Donnie Sand, talking about the franchise and then attacking them. However in the middle of the fight he gets a television thrown at him by Ross Hillock and dies.
Alex and Joel stumble upon the former Olathe Gambling Hall. While exploring it's kitchen, the lights suddenly come on in the seemingly abandoned building. Going out they see Office Ottoman coming in. He asks them who they are and lets them join their meeting. Several more people start coming and take their place. These are the leaders of the previously mentioned game and they are not happy that all of their people are leaving in order to join the franchise. Long Leg Lenny asks anyone for solutions and is met with silence. Then Alex suggests all of them to leave too. Shef agrees with him. Lights flicker and Fringe Boy is beating John Johnson to death with a stool and Shef has cut up Zein Ka and started eating him. Tic Tonic watches this in horror. Long Leg Lenny has escaped. Otto, Alex and Joel start chatting with each other. But it ends abruptly when Shef pulls out an infinity jersey and kills Otto. Tic Tonic blows up in panic and kills Fringe Boy and himself. Shef chokes on his food and also dies. Strangely, Fringe Boy's corpse is also seen wearing an infinity jersey. Going outside they get attacked by another jerseyhead named Russel Bats which used to be a part of John Johnson's gang.
Going back to the Cherry Village, they can see some new jerseyheads. Boh Hob is rubbing meat on his face, Wack Mack is riding a bike with a bucket of meat strapped to it, Matty Mack attacks them, Jack Mack is seen lying on a pile of meat. Going further they see Therloin Jumbo, a franchiser with his arm cut off. He talks about how "he" will transform them, likely foreshadowing their final encounter with Arnold Shpitz. There are also several more people seemingly drowning themselves within the meat and flailing their arms. They can also see William Double J. Palmer, a previous The Game player, has defected to the franchise with Maurice Falcon being his manager. Then a group of jerseyheads attempts to run over them again. However this time they come out of the car one by one and attack them. It seems that the car had 7 clowns inside it. Their names are Tingles The Clown, Onion Ploom, Spence Mack, Spanks Star, The Unspoken One, Carrot Tail and their leader, Geronimo Phantasmata.
Alex and Joel are finally at the easternmost part of Downtown Olathe. There is a strange green fume coming out of the meat on the ground. Standing in front of them is the man that they heard so much about: Arnold Shpitz. Alex asks him why do they keep hounding them. Arnold says that it was a corporate decision. Joel isn't surprised that he can't give a proper answer. Arnold asks them if they're scared of death and then throws a weird pink pill that he's been holding down a cliff and tells them that it isn't easy. Alex asks him if he's really gonna attack them for no reason. Arnold tells them to not blame him, but blame the franchise instead. So they prepare themselves for the toughest foe that they've faced yet. When they thought that they defeated him, Arnold says that he's "no one in particular" and turns into a creature with three bodies coming out of a core. Two faces of him combined are the "Polyfold" and the other extra face is the "Monofold". After defeating them, The Core turns into Arnold again. He's on the brink of death, bloodied up, crouching. The game refers to him as "No One In Particular". After killing him, Joel will remark that he's unlike anyone that they fought before. Looking behind them, they see multiple franchisers including Kein Felton, Howard Al Azif, The Tenderizer and Zill Rachmanov behind them. Being worn out after their battle with Arnold, there is no way that they can take out all of them. Not seeing any way out, they jump down the cliff and land on a pile of meat. However Kein Felton also jumps behind them and attempt to initiate a fight. But The Tenderizer also jumps down and lands inside Kein's skull, killing them both.
The last we see of the franchise is after Alex and Joel are in the Neon Flamingos' bus. They are chased by a group of jerseyheads consisting of Chao Bree, Barry Kettle, Karl Seige, Chance Sassy, Jamie Diggins and Rins Sagitarius. Barry Kettle is the only one that is able to catch up with them since he is riding an animal, but is eventually killed by an arrow.
Trivia[]
- Infinity Franchise's fold system works similiar to a typical level up system in a Role-Playing Game.
- There is a status effect called "Infinitized" in the game. Although it has no gameplay purpose it only affects the player in two instances: During the Blood Lake Dimension and the second phase of the Arnold Shpitz battle. Both are supernatural circumstances that happen because of infinity.
- Another thing worth noting is that during both of these scenes, there is a strange green gas coming out. This might be a hallucinative gas, or it might be another part of the franchise's working mechanism.
- There exists an entity in the game called "Principium Vitae" that only appears in flashbacks. This might be related to the franchise, given that they are both mysterious entities that were first introduced in Pointless. But this is just speculation and there isn't really any evidence to support it.
- Infinity Franchise may be an allegory for Nazism. The number "88" commonly used by the franchise is a real life neo-nazi dog whistle with the letter h being the eighth letter of the alphabet and 88 meaning "hh" which is short for Heil Hitler. It is also worth noting that the highest folded franchiser we've seen yet, Arnold Shpitz, has a Hitler mustache.
- This is not confirmed, the number 88 could just be chosen because of the number 8's similarity to the symbol of infinity (∞) and Arnold is not the leader of the Franchise. Besides just because someone has a toothbrush mustache doesn't mean that they're Hitler.
- The burial of the infinity jerseys due to immense failure is a refference to the real life event of atari video game burial.
