Villain Overview

I'm more human than anyone. I have very human desires. There's no limit to my greed. Why, today... I expect to bring Mash Burndead back... and also... to kill you, Wahlberg.
~ Innocent Zero

Innocent Zero is the main antagonist of the comedy-action fantasy manga and anime series Mashle. He is the mysterious leader of the dark magic criminal organization of the same name, including being the biological father and archenemy of Mash Burnedead, the titular protagonist of the series.

He is voiced by Shin'ichirō Miki (who also voices Zamasu in the Dragon Ball franchise and Roman Torchwick in RWBY) in Japanese and by Jalen K. Cassell (who also voices Goetia in Fate/Grand Order, Junya Kaneshiro in Persona 5, Thor in Record of Ragnarok and Vanilla Ice in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders) in the English dub.

Appearance[]

Innocent Zero has the power to change his form, though his favorite is a faceless humanoid. In the past, he had long silvery-white hair that reaches his back, red eyes and a tattoo of a clock pointer under his left eye.

In his demonic form, Innocent Zero's appearance looks similar to his human form, but he long elf-like ears. Both of his eyes have black sclera with white pupils and he also possesses horns popping out of his head alongside a halo, five eyes on his chest and a group of black feathered wings.

In his perfected form, Innocent Zero became devoid of distinct facial features apart from black eyes and a mouth. accompanied by four wings that have numerous holes and a gear-shaped halo in the head. He has two lines heading temporally from his eyes, and a vertical line running straight through the middle of his face that forms its mouth.

Personality[]

Innocent Zero is a charismatic and cold-hearted man that believes everyone is born for his sake. He desires to "absorb" his children to become "The Perfect Human Being". He also views himself to be "more human" than anyone else. He is also shown to be effectively drunk on his power to the point of megalomania, believing himself a "winner" in life, and that such status makes him entitled to whatever he wants, looking down on everyone as an inferior and worthless, while proclaiming the world to be his, but despite this, he is shown to be quite gentle when it comes to speaking in public.

When denied and pushed into a corner, Innocent Zero's condescending and boastful posturing, collapse in a matter of seconds, paving the way for his bitterness and anger to take hold. As he was pushed to his very limits, Innocent Zero attempted to destroy the entire world with his Thirds in a spiteful attempt to destroy all opposition while mocking them for being unable to stop him, while at the same time he shows some remorse for the damages he caused.

Biography[]

Background[]

Nothing is much known about Innocent Zero's past. But when he was young, he alongside Wahlberg Baigan and Meliadoul was one of the three apprentices of Adam Jobs, the possible creator of the magical society.

Present Days[]

Years later after Mash Burnedead had grown up, his creatin Cell War returns from Easton Magic Academy, he tells Innocent Zero (who was at his throne hiding his face in a cloak) that he has found what was lost. Innocent Zero says that he can finally have his wish and asks Cell to retrieve it for him, while at the time. Innocent Zero arrives with his original form to start a long fight against Wahlberg Baigan to retrieve Mash.

Innocent Zero then tells his motivation. He simply wants to use the forbidden magic of body construction. This will create an immortal heart, using the heart of six blood relatives, while he brutally incapacitantes Wahlberg with Timez Rewound and lets his sons who had escaped from death row to capture Mash. After a fight with Doom, Innocent Zero fought Mash and invokes magical snakes to see if he is strong enough to defeat her, but a eclipse appears and Innocent Zero unleashes his "true power" by absorbing his children's hearts and turning himself into a devil with feathered wings, to conclude his motives. Innocent Zero obtains Mash's heart but he survives and maintain his consciousness before his heart stops three minutes before the fight ends. Thanks to Orter Madl's sacrifice, Easton's crew is able to escape the oncoming hordes of Innocent Zero's army and escort Mash to Meliadoul. Using an artificial heart created by a local witch, Meliadoul performs a heart surgery on Mash. But there's a catch - the heart's high rejection rate will leave Mash bedridden for at least 66.6 hours, meaning the gang will have to protect him from Innocent Zero until he recovers. But right in line, the evil sorcerer appears from a dark portal. Innocent Zero spares no time, launching a blast of dark magic towards the unconscious Mash. But Meliadoul is no slouch - she deflects the blast with ease, declaring that until her patient is recovered, Mash is under her protection. While this setup had me worried that Mash would be out of the picture once again.

Mash then wake up in a void with nothing in sight but a large door and a Jesus Christ-like being sitting on top of it, the Door of Demand requires a similar sacrifice – if Mash is to return to the world of the living, he must give up what he loves most. Naturally, Mash is sad to part with his favorite cream puffs, but what must be done must be done, while Meliadoul starts fighting with Innocent Zero.

With her final transformation complete, Innocent Zero has fulfilled his dreams. Magical society looks on in terror, feeling compelled to bow to their new evil ruler. But Mash didn't give up the fight. Mash believes that if he can get close enough, his muscle magic can overcome this powerful foe. But getting close to Innocent Zero seems virtually impossible. With the ultimate power of time and space magic, Innocent Zero easily dodges Mash's advances. And with a constant barrage of dark magic, Mash is overwhelmed by his divine opponent that then defeats her with a single push to the floor, reverting back into a normal long-haired man he was.

Despite this, the destructive attack of Lucifer Innocent Zero summoned was almost arriving to destroy the city and he then asks to Mashle if he can hold back of sacrifice for the sake of humanity, after learning his lesson. Innocent Zero decides to fix the damages he caused with the help of Mash discovering that even Mash without magic seems to be pretty repent for everything he did. After that, Innocent Zero was then arrested alongside his sons and everything returned back to normal.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Timez (タイムズ, Taimuzu): Innocent Zero's personal magic. This magic allows him to manipulate time. He is able to stop time for those around him, allowing himself and targeted people to move freely. So far, only Wahlberg appears to be unaffected by it. Wahlberg states that Timez is the most powerful personal magic.
    • Timez Unmove (タイムズ・アンムーブ, Taimuzu Anmūbu): A powerful spell that stops time around Innocent Zero.
    • Timez - The Living Dead (タイムズ・リビングデッド, Taimuzu・Ribingudeddo; Lit. Timez Living Dead): A forbidden spell. It restores life from a fragment of flesh, effectively reviving a deceased person's body. The magic power of the revived person is restored as well. However, it doesn't bring back the person's mind.
    • Timez Rewound (タイムズ・リウオンド, Taimuzu Riuondo): A spell that accelerates time around a specific target.
    • Timez Cold (タイムズ・コールド, Taimuzu Kōrudo): A spell that seemingly slows down time around a specific target.
    • Chronos (時の神クロノス, Kuronosu; Kanji meaning "God of Time"): As a triple-liner Innocent Zero possesses the ability to call upon upon a god's strength from within his wand. He calls forth the god of time. His wand grows in length, with the tip transforming into a clock surrounded by blades. By summoning Chronos, Innocent Zero's magic becomes much more powerful.
    • Watch Hands: Chronos enables Innocent Zero to create watch hands to attack his targets while freezing time around them.
  • Magic Stealing: Innocent Zero can steal other's magic, such as Dark from Adam Jobs and Spaces from Wahlberg Baigan. His body, however, is unable to properly contain all of the magic power.
  • Spaces (スペーズ, Supēzu): Stolen from Wahlberg. It's a magic that allows Innocent Zero to warp space.
    • Spaces Bout (スペーズ・バウト, Supēzu Bauto): Innocent Zero cuts space with his wand.
    • Uranus (天空の神ウラノス, Uranosu; Kanji meaning "God of Sky"): Having stolen Wahlberg's personal magic, Innocent Zero got access to this Summon. Innocent Zero calls forth the god of sky. His wand transforms and a mysterious orb surrounded by 4 nails, with one of the nails as his wand's tip, appears. Like with his original Summon, by summoning Uranus, Innocent Zero's magic becomes much more powerful. Space-Warping Nails: Innocent Zero can individually control the nails of Uranus to warp space from different directions at the same time.
  • Dark (ダーク, Dāku): Stolen from Adam. It's a magic that allows Innocent Zero to create and attack his targets with darkness. Everything the darkness hits is effectively erased from existence.
  • Levitation: Using magic, Innocent Zero is able to hover in mid-air.
  • Shapeshifting: Due to various experiments on his own body, Innocent Zero possesses the ability to alter his own appearance.
  • Immeasurable Magic Power: Even for a triple-liner, Innocent Zero possesses a truly monstrous amount of magic power. Wahlberg even states that it's not a stretch to call Innocent Zero the strongest magic user. Due to his true nature, his lines are not visible and only appear when he activates his wand’s true form or changes his appearance to make them visible.
