The union, under Jimmy Hoffa's leadership, becomes a massive force in American labor and politics. Hoffa is shown as a charismatic and fiercely determined leader who fights who fights for workers' rights but also collaborates with the organized crime to secure and maintain his power. The Teamsters' pension fund becomes a crucial source of capital for the Mafia-controlled construction and casino projects, tying the union closely to the Cosa Nostra.
Throughout the film, the Teamsters are depicted as both a legitimate labor organization and a corruptible power structure. Hoffa's partnership with the Mafia is portrayed as mutually beneficial at first, but his eventual refusal to continue playing by the rules- especially after his prison sentence- sets him on a collision course with the very people who once helped him rise.
Hoffa's insistence on reclaiming control of the union without compromising his independence leads to increasing tension with Mafia leaders. They see his stubbornness as a threat to their operations and stability. Despite warnings from allies like Frank ir Russell, Hoffa refuses to back down, leading to his assassination , ordered by the Mafia and carried out by Frank.
By the end of the film, the Teamsters former power and influence are left behind, much like the aging figures who once controlled them. The union fate is intertwined with the downfall of Hoffa and the weakening grip of the Mafia, symbolizing the end of an era where unions, crime, and politics inseparably linked
