The Invaders were two human US Air Force astronauts, one named Gresham, and the other unidentified, who had a hostile encounter with a giant alien woman that ended with their deaths. They were featured in the aptly named 1961 episode "The Invaders", the 15th episode of the 2nd season of The Twilight Zone, where their human nature was hidden until the end of the episode. The invaders wore round, armored space suits, with a horizontal visor, breathing tubes connected to oxygen tanks on their abdomens, and a rectangular rotating satellite dish atop their heads.

While portrayed by miniature puppets, the voice of the unidentified astronaut was provided by Douglas Heyes. Neither of the invaders were depicted without their suits so as to not give away the twist immediately.

History[]

At some point in the future, the US Air Force sent a spacecraft designated Space Probe No. 1 into space, carrying two astronauts aboard. The astronauts, one named Gresham, eventually reached a planet populated by a race of giant agrarian humanoids. They landed on the roof of an isolated farmhouse, where an elderly female giant alien lived alone. When she went to investigate the craft, one of the astronauts descended from the ship in front of her. The astronaut appeared to wave at her, but the frightened giant kicked him down the open trapdoor, prompting the other astronaut to retaliate by exiting the ship and shooting her with an energy weapon. Due to the alien's large size, the weapon only left small radiation burns on her skin, but still caused immense pain and prompted her to go downstairs.

The astronauts followed her into the farmhouse, now intent on killing her, using their guns and picking up giant kitchen knives to injure her, successfully cutting the alien's ankles and hand, while also hiding in small places. However, the alien soon managed to trap Gresham in a bedsheet, beating him to death and throwing him into the fireplace. The other astronaut, seeing that they had been unable to stop the alien, fled back to the ship, but the alien followed him and began to smash the craft with an axe. The astronaut still managed to call his superiors, warning against a counterattack, saying that the aliens were undefeatable, just before he was killed by a swing from the alien's axe.
