“ | People of Earth, we know you all feel like we're the bad guys because my dad and I took over your planet, but you're going to be part of the Viltrum Empire now! That means no one goes hungry, no one dies from cancer and no one ever messes with Earth again. Look, I didn't get it at first either, but I came around and you will come around too! And in the long run, you'll thank us. But you need to remember. The more you resist the worse this gets! We didn't destroy your cities. You destroyed them by fighting back! Your new viltrumite rulers are on their way and it's time to join us and welcome them. And if you still think you can stop us, don't forget: I'm... Invincible. | „ |
~ Invincible's message to the population. |
Markus Sebastian "Mark" Grayson, better known as Invincible, is a minor antagonist in the Image Comics series Invincible and its animated adaptation of the same name.
He is an alternate version of the titular hero from Earth-646 who accepted his father, Omni Man's offer to rule over the world in the name of the Viltrum Empire.
He was voiced by Steven Yeun, who also played A. Traveler in The Twilight Zone, Ricky "Jupe" Park in Nope and Danny Cho in Beef.
Biography[]
This version of Mark presumably had the same life as his original counterpart, up until his father revealed his true colors as a hegemonic conqueror for Viltrum. Unlike the original, however, he accepted his father's offer and decided to take over Earth, believing he is doing the right thing by protecting people from hunger and cancer, although he would end up killing thousands of civilians in the process.
He ends up being fought by the Immortal but is saved by his father. Later, he makes a broadcast about how his rule is absolute. He finds a resistance base and decimates the population, barring Eve who he decides to only injure and Angstrom Levy who escapes through a portal.
Personality[]
Unlike the original Invincible, this version of him strongly supports the Viltrumite ideology and his father's plan to prepare Earth for the Viltrum Empire. He genuinely believes that he is helping Earth by ruling it, despite having slaughtered thousands of civilians and destroyed numerous buildings. This version also retains many of his original self's sarcastic remarks and maintains a polite demeanor, even while brutally murdering civilians. He clings to his love for Atom Eve and refuses to kill her, instead paralyzing her by gripping her neck.
He maintains his close bond with his father, casually discussing things and asking advice.
