Iolite (アイオライト Aioraito) is the main antagonist of the Japanese Light Novel franchise Vermeil in Gold. He is the revoked Platinum Square Magician. He is the archnemesis of the series main protagonist, Alto Goldfield and his familiar, Vermeil.
His voice actor is Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese version and by Scott Gibbs in the English version.
Overview[]
Iolite is the one of the strongest of the magicians in world who are the platinum square. However, his rank as a platinum square magician was revoked for stealing the power of Gannet Granatus (AKA the God).
He is the one who manipulate Obsidian in doing his and his fellow platinum's dirty works until he and his collaborators disposed him for being weak and useless, knowing that Obsidian would eventually failed them after Obsidian was easily defeated by Alto (Obsidian's former student) and Vermeil (Alto's familiar). He and Heliodol killed the priest who was a Platinum mage and his bishops. He then head to the Ortigia Academy of his primary targets Alto Goldfield (who eventually became Iolite's archnemesis) and his familiar, Vermeil (a devil who is the strongest of all devils that was sealed for 550 years by her closest friend, Fatema until she was released by Alto).
During the Bronze Exams, Iolite killed a student from a school (neighbored to the Ortigia Academy) to confront both Alto and Vermeil, thus destroyed the Bronze Exams. He fought against Alto and Vermeil but escaped due to Heliodol who ruined his fun. He tell Alto that he can have the win, but warned him that he will be back one day to kill Alto, Vermeil and everyone that he cares.
Appearance[]
Iolite is a young man with a dark green hair and a space-themed eyes. He worn a sleeveless top and shorts attached to his stocking boots. He worn a hoodie cloak.
Personality[]
Iolite is a twisted, arrogant, murderous, mischievous, sadistic, lazy, delusional and psychotic magician who loves killing those who gets in his way just for the fun. He has no problem killing even children when he killed a student during the Bronze Exams just so he could sneak into the classroom to kill his primary target and archnemesis Alto Goldfield. He treated Alto with a very cruel and sinister act including telling him that his former mentor Obsidian was totally worthless to him for being a weakling.
He is manipulative when he manipulates anyone into doing his dirty works such as Obsidian (Alto's former mentor who is a psychopathic scientist that experimented his students with doses of the low ranking devils).
He is also a failure intolerant when he has no more uses of his weak pawns and disposed them when he is done using them such as Obsidian. He mocked his fellow Platinum Magician Kohakumiya, of her worthless effort for allowing a weakling like Obsidian to work for them only for him to fail them (which Iolite expected) after he was easily defeated by Vermeil. Despite Heliodol tries to convince Iolite that Obsidian might still be useful due to his experiments, but Iolite made it clear to Heliodol that Obsidian is worthless and a waste of time for being so weak even his experiments are considered to be useless because Obsidian's doses from devil (who were low ranks) is nothing more than pathetic measly power.
He is a childminded when he eats lollipops and playing Shogi with Kohakumiya though he gets bored when he always wins the Shogi against Kohakumiya. He disliked anyone who interfere his fun when he was fighting against Alto such as Heliodol.
Skills & Abilities[]
- Genius-level intellect: A child prodigy, Iolite has intellect beyond most students in Ortigia Academy. He is capable of finishing exams within a few seconds. According to Sharol Iridescence, Iolite has a perfect score on every exams from bronze to gold and even the practical exams.
- Vast magical powers: Iolite is the youngest magician to have ever been promoted to Platinum Square, outclassing any other magicians. According to the rumors, Iolite is capable of creating life itself, but it was an ability stolen from the God Almighty.
- Summoning: Iolite can summon a giant stone golem, resembling a castle. This golem is impervious to numerous forms of magic and is highly durable. Iolite's golem can summon powerful cannons.
