Ira is a minor character in the crime drama series Breaking Bad and its prequel series Better Call Saul. He is the owner of Vamonos Pest and a professional burglar.
He was portrayed by Franc Ross.
Biography[]
Background[]
At some point before the events of Breaking Bad, Ira either founded or purchased Vamonos Pest with the aim of committing burglary in vacant houses while they were being fumigated. He leads a crew of five men working as exterminators in his criminal activities, which involve them either returning to burglarize the houses weeks after cleaning them or selling the alarm codes and duplicated keys to other criminals. On occasion, they would rely on Saul Goodman to get out of trouble with the law.
Ira's services also come highly recommended from Dr. Caldera.
Better Call Saul[]
Ira is hired by Jimmy McGill, through Caldera, to steal a Hummel figurine from Neff Copiers. He uses a credit card to bridge the door alarm and sneaks inside Mr. Neff's office, where he takes the figurine and replaces it with one that looks similar. He then sees Mr. Neff, who is staying overnight in his office after having been kicked out of the house by his wife, and hides under his desk. After some time, Ira manages to sneak a phone call to Jimmy and ask for help. Jimmy sets off Mr. Neff's car alarm, allowing Ira to escape during the confusion.
Ira is later seen at a construction business working a legitimate job of stocking vending machines, when Jimmy arrives. Ira pays Jimmy his share of the proceeds from selling the stolen Hummel figurine, which is more than Jimmy expected, and offers to steal again if Jimmy finds another job of the sort. He tells Jimmy to contact him through Dr. Caldera and to use a new phone for every job.
Breaking Bad[]
Ira sells Vamonos Pest to Mike Ehrmantraut, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman to serve as a front for their drug empire. He continues to run the legitimate pest control business, while Walt and Jesse would cook methamphetamine inside the tented house. Ira and his crew are strictly instructed by Mike not to steal from the houses where Walt and Jesse cook or speak to the two, and to do as they are told when ordered to "jump".
Post-Breaking Bad[]
When Saul (under the alias Gene Takavic) calls Francesca Liddy, he asks how his former associates are doing. Francesca does not know about Ira's condition, implying he has escaped charges and is a free man.
