~ 'Isamu Nitta if the player chooses the Musubi ending.
Congrats... You stole my future.
~ Isamu Nitta after being defeated by the player.

Isamu Nitta is a major antagonist in the video game Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. The former best friend of the Demi-Fiend, after the Conception arrived and destroyed the world, he became the reason holder of the Musubi reason (a world of which mankind can do as they please, albeit in total solitude) and strives to rebuild the world to it. His demonic sponsor is a lost god without a name, which he named Noah. If the player chooses to follow him, the world will be rebuilt into a world of solitude and individuality. Depending on the dialogue options and choices the player makes, he can either succeed in his goal or fail.

In Japanese, he was voiced by Kosuke Toriumi in the drama CD adaptation of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Takuya Eguchi in the game's HD remaster. In English, he was voiced by Robbie Daymond (who also voiced Chrollo Lucilfer and Goro Akechi) in the game's HD remaster.

Personality[]

At the beginning of the story (before the Conception) Isamu, the protagonist, and Chiaki Tachibana visited their teacher at a hospital. There, he was portrayed as a cowardly and easily scared individual. He had a liking to his teacher Yuko Takao, being worried when no one was in the hospital and wanting to make a good impression on her, which was shown when he told the protagonist to dress properly because she always treats him nice when he is around.

His grudge against other people started when he was tortured in the Kabukicho prison, believing that it was the Demi-Fiend's fault for saving him too late. From there on he started believing that truth is something you can only find in yourself and that truth isn't something others can give you.

Later in the game, he took this to an extreme when he stopped caring about people entirely, believing that everybody should live life on their own without others. He started completely believing that others don't care about him and he states that he doesn't care about them either and that's a good thing in his eyes. Now he believed that his old self that hiked around aimlessly is dead and that he is the almighty Isamu, the master of Amala's power now.

After he fully developed his reason, he became cold, killing Hijiri without regret just so he can awaken Noah. His coldness is later further proven by threatening to kill an "old friend". If the player chooses his path, he will tell the protagonist to guard the reason of Musubi with his heart before he dies. In the Musubi ending, the player stands before a tombstone of him, where he states that he doesn't care, if he dies or is reborn as long as his life isn't dictated by others, but he is still sad that he didn't get to see his world.

In the Freedom ending, we see an Isamu similar to the one at the beginning of the game.

Biography[]

At the beginning of the game, Isamu calls the protagonist and tells him to meet at the hospital to visit your teacher. He tells his friends of rumors that she is under influence of a cult and that there is something wrong with the hospital. To prove this, Isamu gives the protagonist an ID card so he can check in the basement.

After the Conception occurred, Isamu went to the Mantra's headquarters to search for his teacher. There, he was attacked and imprisoned by Thor, but the protagonist was able to save him. To find his teacher, Isamu went looking for a Manikin who can see into the future, who was currently in the Kabukicho prison. When he arrived there, Isamu was imprisoned and tortured once again and after the player rescues him, Isamu faults the player for saving him too late. Believing that people only need themselves to find the truth and not others, Isamu went into the Amala network to gather Magatsuhi so he can summon his god and establish his Reason. When the Protagonist went to look for him in the Amala network, Isamu has a dialogue with him in which the protagonist can flag his reason for the first time.

The next time we get to see Isamu is in the Amala Temple, where he sends the protagonist out to kill 3 demons so he can gather enough Magatsuhi to awaken his demon sponsor. After the 3 demons are killed, Isamu allows the player into the center of the temple. In the center, we see Hijiri, which Isamu has to kill to summon his demonic sponsor, but before he does so, Hijiri warns Isamu that he will face a high price for killing him. Isamu doesn't care and kills Hijiri anyway and summons his demonic sponsor, who is the god of solitude and a god that got lost in the Amala Network. Because his demonic sponsor doesn't have a name, he calls him Noah, probably in reference to the story in the Bible. Here, the protagonist has his second flag, which will result in the Musubi ending if the player makes the correct choice.

After the protagonist opens the Tower of Kagatuchi, Isamu enters as well. If the player sides with him, Isamu will get killed by Chiaki, leaving the protagonist alone to establish the world of Musubi. However, if he chooses a different ending, the protagonist will have to fight Isamu. Regardless of what ending the protagonist chooses, Isamu will die.

In the Musubi ending, we see Isamu's tombstone and hear his voice. He explains that he will either die or be reborn in the new world. He seems to be happy that the player chose his route, but also sad that he won't be able to see it with his own eyes.

If the player gets the Freedom ending, the world will be reset to how it was before the Conception. We can see Isamu wait at the protagonist's door to go and visit their teacher.
