Isis (mythology)

Aset, best known to westerners as Isis, is the goddess of magic and all that it entails, seen at times even as the "default" Egyptian divinity. Although usually portrayed as benevolent in mythology (as well as being so beloved that it was one of the few Egyptian deities to spread across the Roman Empire), there are a few myths where she has an antagonistic side.

Defeat of Ra[]

Ra, the sun god, was the most powerful of the Egyptian deities, and Isis coveted that power. To do so she made a snake from Ra's essence and made it bite him. Venomous as it was, the sun god was in peril, potentially dooming all of existence to Apep. Isis told him the only way to save him was by revealing his true name to her, since names carry power in Egyptian belief. Ra did so, and now Isis has control over him, and by proxy over all the other gods.

Cutting Horus' Hand[]

In the trials of Horus and Set, the latter tried to rape the former. Horus would put that seed to use, but Isis cut off his hand for some reason.
