JD McKnight is a minor, unseen character mentioned in the 2018 western action-adventure video game Red Dead Redemption II.
He is a banker and financier from New York, an opportunist who eventually took advantage of the story events in 1899 to take over businesses and become even more rich. He has, however, strong knowledge and acumen in economy and finance, as he is capable to predict the next new financial panic and when it would happen.
Biography[]
Background[]
JD McKnight is a wealthy businessman and financier who resides in New York. Following the American Civil War and the victory of the Union over the Confederacy, he helped to rebuild the biggest city of the State of Lemoyne, the City of Saint Denis, alongside fellow businessman and tycoon Leviticus Cornwall, as it was targeted by the Union Troops during the hostilities.
Events of Red Dead Redemption II[]
In 1899, McKnight warned a group in New York about his fear of an new financial panic he expected to happen in the following ten years. And indeed, eight years later, the Panic of 1907 cause the stock market crash. He had previously sold 3.5 million ounces of gold to the U.S. Treasury, alongside other people during the Panic of 1893.
Following the deaths of Cornwall and Colonel Alberto Fussar in 1899 at the hands of the Van der Linde gang, McKnight's company took over the majority of the businesses owned by Cornwall and the sugar plantations of Fussar on the island of Guarma and also sugar fields from Barbados and the Virgin Islands. McKnight taking over the sugar industry ironically caused Guarma to become totally reliant on American imports as the sugar cane fields would replace lands of grown food to feed the population, which in turn led to the workers being mistreated even worse than under Fussar.
