Junkyard Dog. also known as JYD, is the main antagonist of the 2010 crime thriller movie Junkyard Dog. JYD is a serial killer with an obsession over kidnapping women, raping them while holding them captive, and eating their remains after they're dead.

He was portrayed by Innis Casey.

Biography[]

JYD killed his parents in an altercation, then kept their remains in a refrigerated truck, where he'd return to their remains to argue with them posthumously. JYD presumably started killing women in January of of the year the movie is set, at the very least in the pattern he would repeat throughout the year. Each month, JYD would find a woman to stalk, sabotage their car, and drive up in a tow truck pretending to offer assistance. he'd take their cars and knock them out before kidnapping them. While holding them hostage throughout the month in a chamber in his wrecking yard's silo, and after burying their cars with heavy machinery, JYD would regularly climb down and rape the women repeatedly. Providing cuts of meat during certain appearances, JYD would force the women to cook the meat for him to eat, often having them eat it as well. The remains would be of the previous woman JYD killed. After the month was over, JYD would kill the women and dismember their remains in preparation to terrorize the next woman he targeted, repeating the cycle all over again. He'd also keep a dog with him, the dog being used to keep captive women compliant from terror, chase out intruders, and even some remains of the women he killed. By the start of the film, JYD killed nine women, who were all addressed as "Miss" and then each month each woman was held captive, which alludes to pin-up models on a calendar and demonstrates JYD objectifying them all.

In October, JYD targets Audra Buckman to be the tenth captive. On her way to a Halloween party while at college, Audra's yellow Volkswagen was tampered by JYD top drain her gas. When she ran out and called for a tow, JYD arrived with his own truck, pretending to be who she called for. Offering to take her to a service station, JYD abducted her with the ruse. while the real dispatched tow truck driver arrives baffled that she's not there any longer. When Audra feels unsafe seeing JYD pass a service station and tries to call the police, JYD knocks her unconscious and throws her phone out the window. Driving into his wrecking yard, JYD closes off the fence with barbed wire, throws Audra down the silo shaft into the chamber, and buries her car. JYD goes through his office and living space to his kill room, where "Miss September", who's already been murdered and reduced to remains, is further dismembered, with some of her remains being fed to the dog.

Audra wakes up and sees the layout of the cell as a trailer, with the windows showing no light, as she's underground. She takes a shower in the working bathroom, where JYD peers in on her through a video camera. At some point, JYD climbs down from a ladder and replaces Audra's clothes with a low-cut shirt and daisy duke shorts. JYD begins his rituals of tossing bags of women's remains down into the cell, where Audra cooks it with a hotplate provided on a shelf. JYD comes down into the chamber for one of two intentions: repeatedly raping Audra on a mattress with a boxspring, or eating the cooked remains at a kitchen table and chairs bolted to the floor. Audra is forced to eat as well, and when she asks what the remains are from finding they smell rancid, JYD says they're "what's left of Miss September" and that "she looked better than she tastes". Audra is horrified by the realization, as she was kidnapped on October, she's next to be murdered and cannibalized.

Sheriff Holk is involved in the search for Audra, releasing to the media numerous other women have disappeared recently from the area. Samantha Deatherage, an FBI agent cleared for returning to field work after she killed the rapists of an 11-year-old girl in a gunfight, is given the file on Audra's abduction by her unit's chief, Hellerman. When she goes to a country bar and asks the patrons for assistance while showing them Audra's photo, ultimately to no avail, JYD spots here there, follows her back to the hotel she's staying at, and sabotages her car as well. Planning to make her his November captive, JYD waits until she wakes up and gets to her car, offering to tow it to his yard. Agent Deatherage agrees from not wanting to waste time, but she realizes JYD is guilty from finding Audra's earring under his floor mat discreetly. She continues to act nonchalant all the way to the scrapyard, then holds JYD at gunpoint and demands Audra's release. Luring Deatherage into the silo, JYD sicks his dog on her, knocks her out, steals her gun, and throws her into the chamber with Audra. JYD them goes back to his parents' corpses and fights with them again.

Agent Deatherage identifies herself to Audra, but Audra's more distraught since they're both trapped and Audra knows Deatherage will be the next captive on the calendar. Sheriff Holk arrives to question JYD when Hellerman reports she didn't give a status update, but JYD lied her car was fixed and she left. Holk leaves when he sees nothing wrong. Ready to rape Audra again, JYD enters the chamber, disarms Agent Deatherage when she fights him, and cuffs her to the kitchen table. While Audra is raped by JYD again, she steals the key to the cuffs. Coming down later to rape Audra once more before murdering her, not noticing the agent isn't in her cuffs, both women attack him and stab his thigh with a glass shard before he scurries out in a retreat. The women then strip the mattress and wire the springs to a wall socket before making spears out of the bedspring and more glass shards. JYD, however, puts on night vision goggles, crawls in through a trap door on the floor, and snatches Audra into the tunnel, dragging her away.

JYD straps Audra down on a butchering table, while Audra is distraught, begging to not die or be in pain. JYD taunts her by saying everyone dies and she'll only be in pain while she's drained of blood to preserve her remains. Deatherage uses the chairs and the remaining boxspring to force her way out of the cell, squeezing out of the silo while armed with a spear to stave off the dog. When JYD's near killing Audra, he hears Deatherage injure the dog with the spear, causing them to yelp. Deatherage frees Audra and runs with her, which leads to JYD and the dog searching for them both. Sheriff Holk rushes to the yard, as while he's fishing, he remembers JYD's equipment and barbed wire fence were used for imprisonment instead of security.

While the two women hide in a backhoe, JYD passes over head. Deatherage blitzes him and fights him bare-handed when neither of them have the gun after it's knocked aside. When Agent Deatherage gets the gun, JYD flees behind a wrecked car, where Deatherage shoots and blows up the car. JYD stumbles out and drops while on fire. Deatherage and Audra rush to the fence, where the dog chases them in hot pursuit, but Holk shoots the dog just before the women are killed by them. Deatherage and Audra are freed, but an ending scene shows a woman with her car on a roadside and a tow truck behind her with the unseen driver approaching. Remarking how fast he arrived, the woman agrees to go to the driver's yard, implying the driver is JYD and he's still alive.

Trivia[]

  • Some unconfirmed resources allege the movie is inspired by true events, but no more details are given.
  • One possibility is John Brennan Crutchley, a Virginia criminal known as "The Vampire Rapist". Crutchley kidnapped and repeatedly raped a woman in his home while draining her blood, with the complicity of his wife. The woman escaped and was rescued from the side of the road, the police arresting and convicting Crutchley of the crimes. FBI profiler Robert Ressler always believed Crutchkly to be a serial killer, due to fitting the profile of an organized sadist.
