~ Jack the Ripper gloating about murdering Kishimoto |
Jack The Ripper is the main antagonist of the Junji Ito story "The Town with No Streets".
Biography[]
In the story, a young girl named Saiko begins having dreams about her boyfriend, Kishimoto. The real Kishimoto proposes to her, and she accepts. However, the moment is interrupted when a man calling himself "Jack the Ripper", after the infamous real-life serial killer who terrorized London in the 1880s, stabs Kishimoto to death, and then disappears.
Saiko lives in a town in which its inhabitants wear masks. She decides to leave town with her Aunt Tamae, but when she gets to her house, Tamae begins acting crazily. Saiko decides to escape the town herself after seeing people with eyes growing on their heads.
She runs into a strange man and asks him to help her find a way out of the town. The man agrees and shows her the path to the river. However, Saiko realizes the man is wearing a ring. He decides to give it to her as a gift. However, the man then states, "And I feel like I've met you before somewhere." He then removes his mask and ask Saiko if she remembers him.
Saiko is shocked to see that, beneath his mask, the man is none other than "Jack the Ripper". Saiko then asks to the man why he killed her boyfriend. The man replies, "You should be grateful for your boyfriend - if he wasn't there, I would have sliced you up instead."
He then proceeds to pull a knife from his shirt and attempts to kill Saiko. However, the man is stabbed in the back by Saiko's aunt Tamae. Aunt Tamae shows Saiko a way out of the town and she succeeds in going back home.
Personality[]
Like the actual serial killer he is based on, the man is a homicidal psychopath who hates women and murders them to fulfill a sadistic sexual fantasy.
