Jackson is the secondary antagonist of the Tollywood period epic movie Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.
Jackson is one of the taxation generals appointed by Lord Cochrane to raid the villages surrounding Renadu, and is tasked with challenging rebel warrior Narasimha Reddy. Despite being a henchman he has more development and screen time than Cochrane.
He's portrayed by Oscar Skagerberg.
Biography[]
Jackson is a tax collector appointed specially by Cochrane when the city of Renadu shows resistance to British rule. Jackson is notorious for being the man who tortures any of the Indian natives who don't follow the East India Company. Before he heads to the region of Koilkunta, he's seen flogging workers for not producing flag colors fast enough.
Once he heads to Koilkunta, he challenges Reddy's friend, a farmer named Subbaya to a race in order to win domination over his land. Reddy however arrives and retaliates, forcing Jackson to surrender when his men are pinned. When Jacksons' horse displays fear from Reddy's tone, he angrily sets the animal on fire, leading to the horse fleeing in excruciating pain. Jackson and his men proceed to spend the following days pillaging the villages surrounding Renadu and swiftly killing and taking civilians hostage. Jackson goes too far when he burns a child named Bhasavia alive for trying to take some grain back.
Death[]
The next day, Reddy retaliates by attacking Jackson's home and kills several tens of his men, eventually chasing him to a river and beheading him.
Personality[]
Jackson has no sense of sympathy towards the Indians he exploits and takes full pleasure in making them suffer even for the tiniest things. He is shown to have an extremely short temper and has burnt both his horse and Bhasavia alive for it. He, like Cochrane expects the natives to respect British rule and dispatches anyone who defies him with no hesitation, and makes sure that his enemies cannot stop him by holding their loved ones against them. Jackson is ruthless in his approach and headstrong, taking an equally headstrong rebel as Narasimha Reddy to bring him to his knees.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Raiding- Jackson's signature trait, he throws orders at his men quickly and ensures that the civilians he attacks have no hope of fighting back, killing their leaders and anyone they hold dear on the stop. He quickly assumes control over many villages in Renadu before Reddy attacks him.
- Combat- Although not as skilled as Cochrane, Jackson is capable of putting up a fight both hand to hand and in sword dueling. However he has displayed considerable overconfidence, most likely as a result of hiding behind men and firearms. He quickly looses a duel to Reddy with a lack of defense in his attacks.
Trivia[]
- For reasons unknown, Jackson's name is changed to Jameson in the Tamil dub.
- Cochrane's tax manager Madhavayyar believes that Jackson is a reincarnation of a demon king who was previously defeated by Lord Narasimha in ancient times, as he was also defeated when Narasimha rammed through a pillar and purged him outside his home. He also believes it's further evidence that Reddy is an incarnation of Narasimha.
