Biography[]
Early life[]
Jake was best friends with Van McNulty for three years, but Van didn't know about Jake's metahuman abilities to breathe underwater. He had exhibited amphibious behavior around the school and drank water excessively. A year ago during a field trip to Crater Lake, Chloe Sullivan dropped her keys off the pier and Jake dove into the lake to fish them out of the water.
He had remained underwater for over 6 minutes which was inhumanly impossible without extensive training or some kind of superpower. When questioned about this skill, Jake passed it off as no big deal. Chloe later wrote an entry about him in her Wall of Weird online database.
Season Three[]
At the beginning of the school year, Van teased his best friend Jake for admiring Lana Lang from afar. He was a shy boy with a crush on Lana. Jake approached Lana as she was leaving in her car and said hello to her with Lana only returning the greeting politely back and drove off leaving him in the parking lot.
When Lana was swimming in the school pool after hours, Jake waited underneath the water and inexplicably grabbed Lana's ankle and appeared to be drowning her. Lana put up a good fight, but since Jake could breathe underwater, he stayed longer and held her down until she almost drowns. Suddenly, a mystery shooter killed Jake by shooting him in the head with a sniper rifle.
Lana was saved in the process and escaped. At the bottom of the pool was a meteor rock with the word "freak" scratched onto it that was thrown in. After his death, Chloe launched an investigation into Jake's past and to learn the identity of the mysterious shooter. Chloe found photos from Jake's autopsy showing that he had gills.
Lana expressed disgust while Clark remarks that the bullet wound was more disturbing. It was later revealed that Van McNulty killed Jake because he was a metahuman, ignoring the fact that they had been close friends. It appeared that Van was being a hero when in reality he was hunting down people infected by Kryptonite.
