Villain Overview

Well, good morning, gangster!
~ Jamal Elliot to Marcus Elliot after picking him up from jail.
Killing is quick. You took everything from me. And I wanted to take everything from you. Only thing is I didn't know how, until the right opportunity came along.
~ Jamal Elliot to Marcus Elliot.

Jamal "Jay" Elliot, also known as Ghostface, is the secondary antagonist of Season 3 of the Scream TV series.

He is a gangster and serial killer who wants to make Marcus Elliot suffer for leaving Deion Elliot to die and stealing his identity. Jamal is the half-brother of Marcus Elliot and Deion Elliot, and Beth's former partner.

He is portrayed by American rapper Tyga. While in disguise, he is voiced by Roger L. Jackson. In-costume scenes as Ghostface were portrayed by William Scharpf.

Biography[]

Jamal was born to Earl Elliot and an unknown mother. When he was young, he was introduced to his brother Deion Elliot, but not to his twin brother Marcus Elliot. Deion and Jamal became close and would visit each other every summer when Earl would bring Deion to see him. In 2012, Deion was murdered by Luther Thompson, and as he and Marcus had swapped costumes, Marcus was assumed to be Deion, eventually taking on his identity and reputation with everyone believing Marcus to have died. When Jamal moved to Atlanta to stay with Sherry Elliot and Earl, he knew that something was wrong when 'Deion' didn't recognize him despite they had previously met in secret. Jamal eventually realized that Marcus had taken on Deion's life whilst Deion had died that night.

Jay, who was a regular customer at a tattoo parlor, met Beth who worked there. Jamal recognized Beth's sociopathic tendencies and shared with her the story of Deion and Marcus, which made Beth realise the potential of Deion's hypocrisy as a way to further corrupting Jamal, and later on she decided to take on the mantle of Ghostface, which was the costume Deion wore when he died. Jamal and Beth formed a semi-romantic relationship and partnered up to go after Marcus and his friends, with Beth posing as one of the group members to get the suspicion off of her.

Jamal initiated the killing spree by murdering Tommy Jenkins by posing as a disabled man named Marcus who needed help from an Uber driver. Jamal later hosted a party under his alter-ego "Mr. Fade", who was notorious for throwing pop-up parties in Atlanta, and there he killed Beth's ex-boyfriend, Avery Collins, who was seen as a hypocrite for acting as a big-shot on the outside but being the complete opposite on the inside, in addition to his possessiveness for Liv.

Jamal's final kill was when he lured Marcus and his friends to Luther's trash yard and stabbed him before crushing him in the trash compactor. Although planning to betray Jamal and kill him from the beginning, Beth decided to kill him earlier as she had attacked at the hospital and Kym put pieces together that made her realize that Jamal was Ghostface. Beth was forced to kill Jamal in order to stop him from taking credit for being Ghostface as well as revealing her identity to the police. Beth stabbed Jamal with a trash picker and locked him in a crate for Marcus to find. Once found by Marcus, Jamal explained his motives and exposed Beth as his accomplice before finally succumbing to his wounds and dying.

Personality[]

Jamal's complicated life made him a tough and street smart man. His envy toward people who have better lives and frustration from the authorities led him to become a gangster, in contrast to his brother Marcus' choice to excel and going forward. His increasing bitterness and self-righteousness finally took the better of him after Marcus decided to take the mantle of their dead brother Deion.

However, despite being vengeful and cruel, Jamal also had a caring side and sense of justice. Most of his victims were dangerous and destructive people. He even had a change of heart and decided to tell the cops about Beth. His death speech shows that, while he did want to ruin Marcus' life, part of him still loved his brother, and wished he could make things right.

Quotes[]

Marcus: I got you, just hold on.
Jamal: Yeah. You got me like you had Deion that Halloween, right?
Marcus: How do you know about that?
Jamal: You ain't the only one that's been keeping a secret. I know that you're Marcus, on the inside.
Marcus: [discovers the truth] And you're Ghostface.
~ Jamal reveals himself to Marcus.

Jamal: I want everyone to know the truth. To see you suffer, like Deion did.
Marcus: Keep my brother name out your mouth. You didn't even know him. He died before Pops even introduced you to our family.
Jamal: That's where you're wrong. Remember that summer Earl took Deion out to football camp in Kentucky? It wasn't just for that. He wanted us to know that we were brothers. That we were blood.
Marcus: He didn't even tell me about you.
Jamal: Figured he must have kept that our secret. Because once I moved to Atlanta with you, you treated me like a total stranger.
Marcus: That's why you're killing people? Because I didn't treat you like a brother?
Jamal: You didn't even treat Deion like a brother. You abandoned him, stole his whole life! After all he ever did was look out for your punk ass! You're the reason why it all went bad. What happened that Halloween is why Earl chose your family over mine. Why you think my mom locked herself in the garage with the engine running? Beause all you ever gave a damn about was keeping up with your stupid lie.
~ Jamal reveals his true story and motives to Marcus.

Jamal: You took everything from me! And I wanted to take everything from you. Only thing is I didn't know how, until the right opportunity came along.
Marcus: What opportunity?
Jamal: I'll get to that. But let's start with Tommy Jenkins. [Jay's flashback of his TJ's murder]
Taking a man's life is a hell of a thing. I had to prove that I can go through with it. But once I passed that test, it wasn't nearly as hard to keep going. Your boy, Avery Collins, that was to show you all I meant business. [Jay's flashback of his Avery's murder]
Hook Man was payback. [Jay's flashback of stabbing Hook Man]
And your little shorty's dad? He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
~ Jamal tells Marcus about his murders and attacks.

Marcus: You don't get to die until you tell me everything, about Shane, Manny, Amir. Say something, man!
Jamal: I didn't kill these fools.
Marcus: Well, they're dead, so who did?
Jamal: You ain't the only one that's been wearing a mask and neither was I.
Marcus: You've been working with somebody.
Jamal: Up until last night, when they stab me in the back, actually the front. Either way, you're all screwed, because they ain't gonna stop until all of you will be dead.
Marcus: Who is it, Jay?
Jamal: You think I'm gonna tell you that? The whole point of this was to destroy you, and trust me. She will.
Marcus: She, who is she? Who is she?! Come on Jay. I'm begging you man.
Jamal: At least we figured something out. I guess this is who we really are, huh? [Jamal grunts and dies from his wounds in front of Marcus]
~ Jamal reveals to Marcus that he had a partner, also his last moments before dying from his injuries.
