Lieutenant James Alexander is the main antagonist of the 2001 crime-drama film, L.A.P.D.: To Protect and to Serve. He is a corrupt LAPD police officer and ringleader of a gang of other crooked cops that are involved in illegal schemes and other criminal activities.
He was portrayed by Michael Madsen, who also played Victor Vega in Reservoir Dogs, Toni Cipriani in Grand Theft Auto III, Budd in Kill Bill, Maugrim in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Michael O'Leary in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, William Carver in Telltale's The Walking Dead and Grouch Douglas in The Hateful Eight.
Biography[]
In the film, Alexander is first seen in the police department congratulating Officers Sam Steele and Richard Wade on stopping the arm robbers that occur in the opening sequence.
During the party at Meyerling's place, Alexander hangs out and drinks with Steele and calls a toast for the second generation of the Alexander and Steele family. In the kitchen, Alexander talks to Sextram and some other officers about his dislike for minorities analyzing and questioning him.
After meeting with Steele's father at his store and heads back to the police station, Steele and Wade witness their follow police officers Alexander, Sextram, Meyerling, and Falco stealing items from the wholesale imports store and selling them to the pawnshop to get money for another party at Meyerling's place. Wade tries to report back to the police station about the burglary, but Steele stops him and is payoff by Meyerling for not ratting them out, allowing his silence to be bought.
Later at night, Steele arrives at the party, Meyerling tells Alexander and Sextram about Steele being angered, who confronts and gets into a fight with Sextram. Alexander and other officers stop them and went back to drinking. Later that night, after Sextram having sex with a prostitute in the back seat, he has a conversation with Alexander about trusting Steele and Wade and keeping secret about their corruption.
After Steele's father, Stuart gets robbed and shot, his son, Wade, Alexander, and Sextram arrive at the scene and stealing a Pepsi drink. At night, Alexander is seen in his office and talking on the phone with an unknown individual while putting weapons in a bag, being hired to kill a child molester named Stanley Tensler. Captain Elsworth catches him and jokingly about him working late and making extra money, which Alexander replies that he's doing a favor for a friend.
When Steele arrives back to his apartment, he sees Alexander sitting in his place, who pays to help him kill a capture and kill Stanley. On the next day, Steele finds and chases Stanley. Alexander catches and throws Stanley to the wall and kills him, not believing "rehabilitation" and prefers "cancellation" instead.
When Steele and Kimberly arrived at one of Meyerling's parties, Alexander talked to Steele in the kitchen. Alexander opens the fridge and gives the money to Steele, as part of his "pension". Confused why he wouldn't the money like last time, but understands why.
Back at the police department, Captain Ellsworth announces that there are officer misconduct and officers involved in criminal activities within the division. He also informs everyone that the department is cooperating with the Internal Affairs investigating officer misconduct and replacing as their division commander by Captain Payne. Alexander assigns Falco with Steele.
In the police department's men's locker room, while Steele tries to call Kimberly, he is confronted by Alexander and Sextram about Meyerling being caught by the IA and having loose ends. Alexander tells Steele about their fathers gotten into of misunderstandings.
After Meyerling is killed in an explosion, Steele accuses Alexander and Sextram of Meyerling's mysterious death. Alexander chastises Steele for being insensitive and accusing him of having something to do with the unfortunate accident. Steele threatens Alexander and Sextram if something happens to Wade and his family. Alexander understands him and Sextram claims that their all on the same team and continue their conversation at the pawnshop.
After learning Kimberly's death and witnessing her corpse, Steele is filled with anger and decides to confront the crooked cops with Wade, taking matters into their own hands once and for all. Arriving at the pawnshop and goes to the back office, Steele and Wade confront the crooked officers in a standoff. While preparing to fight off the crooked cops, Detective Jack Kirby arrives and tries to arrest Steele and Wade and reveals that he killed Steele's father. While doing so, he shot and killed by Wade. impress with Wade's shot and stating that he never liked Kirby, Alexander tries to convince Steele and Wade from shooting him, but they refused and have a shootout with them. Alexander manages to kill Steele, but is shot and killed by Wade in the process.
