You're already a better president than I'll ever be.
~ Dean to Montgomery Clift, mirroring what Richard Nixon said to Dean's Deanverse counterpart.

James Dean is a major antagonist in season 3 of the analog "superhorror" series THE MONUMENT MYTHOS, the first installment of the series of the same name.

He is the Montyverse counterpart of James Dean who steps down from President to Vice President after the suicide of his older sister, Eunice Dean. Devastated by her loss, he goes to murder Howard Melrose, the main suspect in the case, via plane crash.

Biography[]

In a different version of 1968, Eunice Dean, James Dean's older sister, killed herself by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. As a result of his distress, James decided not to run for president, unlike his "Deanverse" counterpart. Instead, he urged Montgomery Clift to run for president, and in the 1968 election, he served as vice president on Clift's ticket. With 70% of the vote, they easily won the Democratic Primary.

Although Dean is elected as Montgomery Clift's running mate, he was deeply saddened by his sister's passing. Because of his role in Eunice's suicide, Howard Melrose is listed as one of the FBI's most wanted fugitives. Later, special agent Rod Serling calls Dean to let him know that Melrose was traveling from LAX to Washington, DC. Melrose and Dean are killed when Dean uses Air Force Two to intercept the passenger plane carrying Melrose and collide with it in midair.

After the incident, Dean and Melrose go into a white void where Cthonaut A berates them. According to the Cthonaut, they stand for two monuments: Melrose is Tragedy, and Dean is Comedy. Both of them are described as tearing each other apart yet keeping their universe together. The Cthonaut calls Melrose "Howard the Coward" and Dean "Dean the Devil" before declaring that he will not allow them to mess the world up.

James Dean's impeachment for conspiring to perform a vigilantist act is later the subject of a trial in the form of a poll. In the end, Dean remains in power with 40% of the vote being in favor and 60% being against. An annoyed Cthonaut A then gives Dean a second chance.

Trivia[]

  • James and Eunice Dean's relation was confirmed by the DC Representative.
