James Elfego is the main antagonist in the 1968 spaghetti western film Today We Kill... Tomorrow We Die. He was a cruel and sadistic bandit, leader of the Comancheros, a notorious robber.
He was portrayed by Tatsuya Nakadai.
Biography[]
James Elfego was a criminal who committed robberies and murders with his two robber partner, Moreno and Bill Klaus. Elfego with Moreno and Klaus betrayed his former friend Bill. He raped and killed his indian wife. A lot of money was robbed, left in Bill's house to take him to prison as a scapegoat while they disappear. Elfego joined with his comrades to the Comancheros and later he became the leader himself. Criminals, deserters, indian rebels joined him. They looted and murdered people for several years and the Civil Guard was completely helpless against them.
Bill had practiced using the pistol in prison and decided to take revenge on Elfego and his two follower. Gathered famous gunslingers, people who can kill and went after his enemies. Elfego and his band then robbed a cash-carrier horse carriage the two escaping soldiers were killed by Elfego alone. Bill and his companions found the robbed carriage and they scattered. Bill and one of his friend O'Bannion rode toward to Madigan Post, but were spotted by Comanchero spies. They informed Elfego, who, when he learned that Bill was one of the people the spies had seen, he become tense. He sent some of his people, including Klaus, who was the second most important man after Moreno. Klaus and the others found the two gunslinger in Madigan Post. They were in a pub. They began to provoke them, until O'Bannion shatter a glass in Klaus's palm and smashed a bottle on the head of another comanchero Tiger. A fight broke out and the comancheros lost. However, Klaus did not betray his leader, and O'Bannion threw him out of the pub window. That's when Elfego came with all his people. O'Bannion took out his pistol, but Elfego shot him out of his hand. Bill became very nervous when he saw the smiling Elfego and right hand Moreno. The comancheros tortured the two heroes, and Elfego revealed his plan to Bill. The next morning, the comancheros attack a military convoy and steal hundreds of thousands of dollars. Elfego wanted to do the same to Bill, which was several years ago. Make him guilty and put him in jail again. He began to provoke Bill, but he didn't let himself go. At dawn, Elfego and Moreno went with the band. Klaus and Tiger remained there to guard the two prisoners with a few people. Klaus wanted revenge on O'Bannion, but Bill's other companions broke into the pub and shot the comancheros. Klaus and Tiger both died, and Bill and his companions were ready to hunt. Elfego and Moreno returned a few hours later and were shocked to see the bodies. Elfego got angry and set off with his gang to kill Bill and the others.
Bill deliberately let the comancheros follow them, trying to leave as many traces as possible. Hunting began in the woods, where Bill's companions silently attacked Elfego's men one by one. Elfego noticed that his men were disappear, then ordered them to be scattered, then he went on, furiously yelling. In the evening, Bill's men raid the comancheros several times, and Elfego most important man, Moreno, also died. In the morning, few remained and Elfego decided not to give up and kills Bill and his friends. He found one of them, O'Bannion, who hadn't noticed him, and Elfego shot him. The bandit leader approached him to make sure he was really dead, but then O'Bannion got up and trip Elfego. He was surprised that O'Bannion did not die, but then pulled out his machete. O'Bannion fought against him with a log, but Elfego seriously injured his enemy. When he wanted to kill him, Bill shot his machete out of his hand. The bandit picked up his opponent's pistol and fled. Bill ran after him, meanwhile, the remaining comancheros died. Elfego began to fear the sight of more and more hungry croaking crows and fled further. Bill caught up with him and his friends arrived. However, he did not allow his companions to help, but challenged Elfego to a duel and offered that if he won, he could go free. Elfego was mocking and uppish. They were ready for the duel. They took out the pistol at once, but Bill fired faster and hit Elfego's hand, who dropped his weapon. Elfego looked at his wound, but he just wanted to distract his opponent's attention and take out another pistol.
But Bill also hit his other hand and his enemy was unarmed. He approached him and shot his hated enemy. Elfego died a slow death, afraid and exhausted. With his death, Bill completed his revenge and found peace.
Personality[]
Elfego was a very sadistic, abominable, vile and evil bandit. Very often he smiled at his enemies, striking cheerfulness, and suddenly he had a fierce look of anger. If a failure has occurred he became very nervous, his eyes widened and he rarely yelled. He was talking to Kiowa in a rather mocking, humbling, he loved if he made his enemy angry with his grin and voice. Elfego in combat was very aggressive and ruthless.
