James Langton is a minor antagonist in Red Dead Redemption 2, serving as the main antagonist of the mission "An Honest Day's Labors" and a supporting character in Red Dead Online.
He is voiced by Gregory Jones.
Biography[]
Langton is a professional bounty hunter operating in the state of New Austin, which he considers himself to own. Despite supposedly being on the side of the law, his desire for money means that he often breaks or even actively hinders the law if he stands to profit from it.
Red Dead Online[]
The player can encounter Langton at his hideout near Lake Don Julio. He brags about his bounty hunting prowess and that he "runs" New Austin and offers them a number of missions that hinder the law in some way, including paid killings, supply destructions, prison breaks and horse thefts. He also appears in the Blood Money DLC giving missions for Guido Martelli's criminal network. Accepting his missions will decrease the player's honour.
Red Dead Redemption 2[]
When Shane Finley, the most wanted man in the United States with a $400 bounty on his head in New Austin, is spotted in the Armadillo/Tumbleweed region, Langton and rival bounty hunter Sadie Adler both independently begin hunting him down. Sadie manages to apprehend Finley after finding him in a brothel disguised as a woman, but near Armadillo she is ambushed by Langton and his men, who manage to steal Finley.
Sadie enlists the help of John Marston to recapture Finley from Langton. Tracking Langton's men to Pike's Basin, where they have stopped to await reinforcements before taking Finley upstate to be arrested, they either stealthily enter Pike's Basin or immediately start shooting, but either way a shootout ensues and Langton is killed by either John or Sadie. John then puts Finley on his horse and he and Sadie take him back to Blackwater after fighting off Langton's remaining men.
