Jang Deok-su (Korean: 장덕수) is a major antagonist in Squid Game. He is a Filipino gang member that resided in South Korea. He participated in Oh Il-nam's Squid Game in order to pay off the debts he owes to the mafia.
He was portrayed by Heo Sung-tae. In the English dub, he was voiced by Paul Nakauchi, who also voices Malthael from Diablo III.
Personality
Deok-su has a brutal and sadistic personality, in which he terrorizes other players and is constantly doubtful about his allies. He is also utilitarian, believing that the game would be ended earlier if he massacred most of the contestants. However, he takes delight in specifically targeting weaker contestants.
Biography
His early life remains a mystery but he entered the game only because he stole from the boss. After leaving the first game he was almost captured by the gang members until he stabbed his driver and escaped via the lake. After the second game he had intercourse with Han Mi-nyeo inside the bathroom, the two developing a love-hate relationship. He killed many during the game so that the game could be ended early. Han Mi-nyeon eventually decides to kill him and herself near the end of the game because she was frustrated by his apathy towards her.
