Mr. Janus Lee is the overarching villain from the 2005 animated series ATOM (Alpha Teens on Machines).

Originally he is depicted as a well-meaning, yet excentric billionaire scientist who brought the Team together during the game show he funded, Trackdown, to defeat the recently escaped crime lord, Alexander Paine. Over the course of the first season, his truth personality was called into question on a few occasions, only until the season 2 premiere was the truth revealed.

He is voiced by Tom Kenny.

History[]

Pre-series[]

10 years ago, Lee was a part of a secret government cloning project called Chrysalis, on orders from The Serpent's Tail. While he was experimenting, Janus met and befriended Sebastian Manning, who's DNA he stole to be used as a basis for the clone, Dragon. Over the next few years, Lee would start his own company, patenting the latest in vehicles, owning banks, hospitals, ect. However, what no one else knew was Lee began to lose faith in humanity, and began working on secret genetic projects which he believed would help the world.

ATOM[]

Lee would continue his projects, and decided to host a reality show, where the winners would become the new test drivers for his vehicles. The winners were Axel Manning, Sebastian's son, Lioness, Hawk, Shark, and King. However, Axel was more interested in finding his father as his former platoon mate, Alex Paine, had escaped prison. Reluctantly, Lee agreed to fund the decision to hunt Paine down, refearing to the team as ATOM. Overtime, Lee's true nature was called into question. The first time was when the team was attacked by Silas Greene, a former employee of Lee who was wrongly fired. Greene, calling himself The Architect, sought revenge on Lee for being, "A Two-Faced personification of backstabbing corporate greed". Unfortunately for Greene, his pleas were ignored, being that ATOM saw him as insane, and that he did try to kill them. As the series progressed, Lee was seen by the viewers taking DNA from the Team in various ways.

After Paine was locked away, Lee fired the team saying Lee Industries was moving away from technology to genetics. As ATOM was looking for work, Axel was attacked by a reptilian monster, who was revealed to be created by Lee. The monster, who Lee named Tillian, was a clone of Axel with several species of reptiles infused into his genetics. Lee revealed to Axel that his vision was to create genetically perfect beings that would guide humanity away from greed and corruption. Axel questioned this method, seeing this as Lee's way to rule the world. Disappointed, Lee ordered Tillian to attack, to get to his lab inside the main building. Thanks to the proof provided, Lee was stripped of his power by the Board of Directors and kicked out. Not taking this lying down, Lee sought to enhance his own powers, only for the Team to interfere. This drove Lee insane and bonded him to a suit that allowed him to create hard light hologram constructs around his body. The team now sought to defeat Lee and the Mu-Team, their genetic clones, consisting of Firekat, Wrecka, Rayza, and Shatterfly, who were animalistic clones respectively of Lioness, King, Shark, and Hawk. Lee would send the Mu-Team on various missions to benefit themselves and kill ATOM. However, the clones were frequently prone to infighting among themselves and rebelling against Lee's overbearing personality, leading to frequent defeats.

Eventually, Lee gave the Mu-Team genetic enhancements and forced ATOM to fight in gladiatorial combat. During the fight, the Mu-Team, finally fed up with Lee, rebelled and escaped. Lee would escape his base too, as his armor created protection. Returning to Lee Industires, and retaining his sanity, Lee would reveal the truth about Sebastian and Dragon to Axel. However, Dragon and the Serpent's Tail attack, joined by their leader Quan, to better hide their secrets. Lee would fight Quan, only to be mortally wounded. He later appears as a pure light form and sacrifices himself to save ATOM from a bomb.
