Jason Burr, also known as King Kobra, is a supporting antagonist in the DC Comics universe. He is an international terrorist who like his brother, is the leader of the Kobra Cult.

History[]

Origins[]

On May 25, in a New Delhi hospital, Burr gave birth to conjoined twins, Jason and Jeffrey Franklin. After delivery, the infants endured a twenty-one-hour operation to separate them. Then the hospital was raided by members of India's Kobra Cult, who kidnapped Jeffrey to be one of them.

Jason was doted on by his parents, unaware that he was once a twin. Jerome groomed Jason to take over Burr Industries, meeting many influential people including stockholder Bruce Wayne. Soon after Jason turned eighteen, his parents died in a plane crash. He was inconsolable, unwilling to even go to their graves, so he never knew that their bodies had been stolen. Burr Industries was held in a trust until Burr turned twenty-five.

Lost brother[]

CIA agent Ricardo Perez found Jason at much the same time as his long-lost brother Jeffrey found about him. The two men realized they shared a sympathetic link that grew stronger with the passage of time. Kobra could not abide the notion and wanted Jason dead. So Jason and Agent Perez then endured a series of struggles to stop Kobra and stay alive. Things built to a climax when Kobra captured Jason and brought him to the cult's lair.

By then, Kobra had acquired their parents' bodies and prepared to resurrect them using one of Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus Pits. Following instructions Jason left behind, private investigator Jonny Double mailed a letter to Burr Industries investor Bruce Wayne, pleading for him to ask Batman to rescue Jason wherever he might be. Batman followed the trail to Ra's former headquarters in the Swiss Alps, where he helped free Jason, who then escaped with his girlfriend Melissa McNeil, unaware that the woman had fallen in thrall to Kobra. As they rode a ski lift away, McNeil stabbed and killed Jason.

Kobra Cult[]

Years later, after the death of Jeffrey, the ruling body of Kobra came to the conclusion that they had kidnapped the wrong child. So they dug up his body and resurrected him in the Lazarus Pit. Due to being corrupted by the pit and brainwashed by the cult, Jason became the new Kobra and leader of the cult. Since then, Jason's whose goal is nothing less than bringing the world into the age of Kali Yuga.

Beware the Batman[]

Jason Burr appears in Beware the Batman, voiced by Matthew Lillard. He is depicted as the inventor of the Ion Cortex that would help with the world's power. Batman had to protect him when the League of Assassins targeted him so that they can get the Ion Cortex. Tatsu Yamashiro worked to protect Jason Burr from Silver Monkey. Though Jason Burr did grow attached to her to the point where he tended to her wounds after Batman repelled Silver Monkey. After Silver Monkey's mission was a failure, Lady Shiva told Silver Monkey not to go after Jason Burr again for they will obtain the Ion Cortex another way.

In "Control", Jason Burr invites Katana on a date at the time when Cypher is sent by the League of Assassins in their next attempt to control the Ion Cortex. Cypher ends up controlling Jason Burr and Katana when it comes to fighting Batman. During the fight on the subway where Batman disconnects the cars, Batman damages the controls to the subway which causes Cypher to break his control over Katana. With help from Katana, Batman is able to free Jason and defeat Cypher. Jason Burr is later seen recuperating in the hospital where part of Cypher's control is still in Jason.

In "Instinct", Jason Burr analyzes the residue that Katana gave him had contained the phosphorus of African Toads which explodes upon heat where the residue was planning to be used by Professor Pyg and and Mister Toad to bomb the yacht. After a call from Katana, Jason is shown to still be controlled by the League of Assassins as he speaks with Lady Shiva.

In "Fall", Jason finishes the Ion Cortex and is ready to hand it over to the League of Assassins. He also bombs his lab in an attempt to kill Bruce Wayne and Tatsu, but fails. Batman and Katana track Jason down to a secret lair, where he confronts them. Tatsu frees him from Cypher's control once more, and he attempts to help them shut down the Cortex. However, Lady Shiva uses the Soultaker Sword on him before he is able to finish.
