Can't fight crime without cracking a few skulls.
~ Jason Todd in Injustice 2.

Jason Peter Todd, also known as the Red Hood and formerly known as Robin and later Batman, is a supporting character in the Injustice franchise.

He was a former ward/sidekick of Batman and was also the second Robin. He was murdered by the Joker and was later succeeded by Tim Drake. At some point, Jason was revived by the League of Assassins and was recruited into Ra's al Ghul's service, in which he aided him in his plot to "re-balance" and save the world. However, when Ra's unleash the android Amazo as part of his plan, this caused Jason to leave the League of Assassins and eventually become an independent anti-heroic vigilante, who would use lethal force to fight crime.

He was voiced by Cameron Bowen.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Injustice Joker killing Jason Todd

Jason Todd being killed by Joker.

Jason's past is not fully explored, but sometime after Dick Grayson, the first and original Robin, had grown up and stepped down from his position to become Nightwing, Batman/Bruce Wayne took Jason in and trained him to become Dick's successor. He was active in his role as the new Robin until he was murdered by the Joker, Batman's arch-nemesis who would also become Superman's arch-nemesis and be responsible for the latter's descent into villainy in the future. Following Jason's murder, Batman took in another protege, Tim Drake, who then became the third Robin and later Red Robin.

Revival and joining the League of Assassins[]

At some point after his death, Jason's corpse was retrieved and revived in the Lazarus Pits by the League of Assassins. Though Jason was successfully revived, however, the effects of the Lazarus Pit have a side-effect as it stripped Jason of his "Do Not Kill" creed, making him darker, violent, and murderous in personality, and he was recruited into the League. He was inactive during the Insurgency's conflict with Superman and his One Earth Regime. Following Superman's defeat, a power vacuum was left in the aftermath while his regime toppled. Jason and the League of Assassins, led by Ra's Al Ghul, immediately took the opportunity to take action.

Recruiting the Suicide Squad[]

Jason was sent by Ra's Al Ghul on his first mission to abduct and forcibly recruit the Suicide Squad and free Ra's Al Ghul's grandson Damian Wayne, who has been imprisoned in a super-max security prison on Stryker's Island, due to having sided with Superman during his conflict with Batman's insurgency. Impersonating his former mentor Batman, making him look like he has become a gun-toting and more violent vigilante, Jason breaks into the Pentagon and murders Amanda Waller and Rick Flag to take control of the Suicide Squad. He easily subdued Killer Croc when the latter tried to attack him but decided to spare him. Jason then used Waller's technology to kill off members of the Suicide Squad he found useless, such as Clock King, Killer Moth, and Polka Dot Man, due to Amanda Waller implanting small explosive devises in their brains, which the government programmed to detonate via a trigger if rebel or show disloyalty. Calendar Man is the only "useless" member of the Suicide Squad to not be killed, as Jason was unable to detonate the explosive in his brain, probably due to a malfunction in the trigger, and he was left behind instead.

A cold reunion[]

Jason and the other surviving members of the Suicide Squad battled their way out of the Pentagon. While the other villains were boarding a helicopter piloted by Jason's men, he was soon confronted by the real Batman. Possibly recognizing Jason, Batman angrily ordered him to take off his mask, but the latter refused and decided to unmask him by force, leading to a fight in the rain. Jason easily counters Batman, whom he brutally pummels and unmasks while at the same time insulting him as "pathetic" and "disappointing". While standing triumphant over his now-beaten opponent, Jason mocks him for being "old", "slow", and "weak" to do what needs to be done and that he is Batman now before returning to Ra's Al Ghul's base in South America.

Freeing Damian Wayne[]

Later, Jason and the Suicide Squad broke into Stryker's Island while at the same time, Talia Al Ghul and her daughter Athanasia broke Damian out of prison. Jason then joins with Damian and Athanasia as they exhume the corpse of Alfred Pennyworth, who was murdered by Victor Zsasz. Though they were confronted by Bruce Wayne, they teleported back to South America, where Damian revives Alfred in the Lazarus Pits.

Batman's attack on Ra's Al Ghul's base[]

Jason was seen accompanying Ra's Al Ghul at times while still wearing his Batman costume until Batman and his allies attacked the Ra's Al Ghul's base to rescue Connor, the son of Green Arrow and Black Canary, and the two daughters of President Pierce, who all had been kidnapped by the Suicide Squad and held ransom. During the attack, as Harley tries to escape with the hostages, they were intercepted by Jason who then attempt to execute Harley but was thwarted by the Atom, who defused the implanted explosive device in her brain. Jason then gets into a fight with Wildcat while Harley and the children escape. Though badly beaten during the fight, he managed to mortally wound Wildcat with gunfire but was unable to kill him after Connor used his sonic wave attack to knock him out. Jason was later bounded and held at the mercy of Poison Ivy only for Batman to come in and subdue Ivy with weed killer, allowing Jason to escape.

Defection[]

After Ra's Al Ghul's South American base was inadvertently destroyed, as a result of Blue Beetle's reckless killing of El Diablo, Jason, the former and their allies were forced to relocate to Gorilla City. When Ra's Al Ghul and King Solovar unleashed the powerful android Amazo on a test drive to destroy a local town in Arizona as part of his plot to exterminate humanity for their "sins" and to restore balance to the world, this caused Jason to question the decision, as he knew that the town contains only innocent civilians. Amazo targeting New Delhi, India next was the last straw, as Damian, Animal Man and Vixen convinced Jason to stop the duo's plot, as Damian still believes in Jason that he's neither Batman nor a pawn of Ra's Al Ghul. This successfully convinces Jason to defecting from the League of Assassins and he joins the trio to persuade Amazo's creator Professor Ivo to power down his android. When Ivo refused to do so, as he wanted to protect his family, Jason reveals to him that his family are actually dead, as they had resisted their escort and were killed in the process. He then orders Professor Ivo to take control of Amazo, but the professor could only try to find a way to weaken him, as taking control over his android would result in Jason, Vizen, and Animal Man being killed.

While Ivo got to work, Jason noticed Kara Zor El/Supergirl from the screen and he asked on her identity, though Damian refused to reveal it and prefer to keep it a secret. The group was suddenly confronted by Athanasia Al Ghul and Jason tried to lie that they were ordered by Ra's Al Ghul to guard Professor Ivo but Athanasia saw through it. Jason attempted to stop her from killing Professor Ivo but the assassin threatens Ivo with death unless he stops what he is doing, but the professor, who had lost the will to live now that his family is gone, chose to accept his fate and successfully weakens Amazo, causing Athanasia to shoot him in the head. As she attacks the group, Jason tries to fend her off but was immediately wounded. As they escaped, Animal Man was killed by Deadshot while Damian was recaptured by Poison Ivy, forcing Jason and Vixen to leave without them. They are not seen again afterwards and their current whereabouts are unknown.

Injustice 2[]

Jason Todd appears as a playable DLC character in the game's Battle Mode, now an anti-heroic vigilante known as Red Hood. He wields dual customized pistols as his main weapons. Their magazines also include taser spikes, allowing Jason to also use them for melee combat.

Arcade Ending[]

That. Felt. Good. Titanium composite hollow point bullets with a C4 kicker. Fastest, most explosive ammo in the world. I made them myself. With the invasion over, Bruce and Superman started fighting again. I wasn't down with either of them. On the one hand, the Regime's right. Scumbag murderers and rapists deserve to die. But on the other hand, I'm no fan of government authority. Especially the dictatorial variety. So while the world's finest fight each other, I fight for the people. The weak. The innocent. Anyone who can't protect themselves. When they cry out for a savior, I'll answer. As for the criminals that threaten them? They need to know that their actions have consequences. That the Red Hood is coming for them.
~ Jason Todd's possible canon ending.

In a possible canon ending, Red Hood kills Brainiac with Titanium composite hollow point bullets with a C4 kicker, which he describes as being the fastest and most explosive ammo in the world and that he created them himself. Red Hood is presumably unaware or that he didn't care that his killing of Brainiac had apparently resulted in the destruction of all the worlds the Coluan had captured and stored within his skull ship, due to an installed failsafe where the ship would shut down upon his death, thus making Red Hood responsible for the deaths of billions of souls trapped within their own worlds.

In the aftermath of Brainiac's defeat, when Batman and Superman got into conflict with each other again, Red Hood chose to not side with either of them and stayed neutral. Despite agreeing with the One Earth Regime that murderers and rapists should be killed for their crimes, he nevertheless held a hatred for the regime for its tyranny and crimes against humanity. As Red Hood goes about fighting crime his own way and protecting the innocents and those weak to stand up to crime, he swore to come to the aid of those who cry out for help and punish any criminals who threaten them, seeking to warn them that the their actions and crimes have consequences and that he is coming for them. During his epilogue, Jason is shown to have defeated Professor Pyg while having protected his would-be victim, a woman who appears to be Scarlet, who became Jason's apprentice and sidekick in the comics.

Trivia[]

  • Like his Arkhamverse incarnation, the Injustice version of Jason Todd wields custom guns (along with ammunition).
  • In Injustice 2, during his intro, he is shown to waste a few ammo where he would shoot four rounds while doing an acrobatic flip.
  • He is one of the few Injustice to break the four wall, where he would shoot at the screen as part of his victory pose.
  • If Jason fights Joker, he will say "I ain't afraid of no ghosts", which is a quote from Ghostbusters.
  • Two of Jason's combo moves appear to reference two DC Storylines, with one being named "Under the Hood" (which is possibly named after the storyline of the same name) and the other being "Death in the Family", which references the 1988 comic of the same name, where he was murdered by the Joker and Batman failed to save him.
