Villain Overview

I was there you know, at the first war for this garbage planet. I fought against your armies, I respected your tactics, but this...? This is sick! I don't get what you're planning, Rose. But look! Your base is taken! Your armies are ruined! You... have failed!
~ Jasper to Steven before headbutting him unconscious.
I don't need your help! You're the one that needs help. You think you've beaten me, but you've never beaten me on your own. You've always been a fusion! You've always had your friends! Because you're nothing without them! You think everyone needs help! But it's only you! No one is as pitiful as you!
~ Jasper to Steven in Little Homeschool.
Farewell, my Diamond.
~ Jasper to Steven in The Future and her last words.

Jasper is a major antagonist of Cartoon Network's Steven Universe franchise.

She is a Homeworld Gem soldier who is bent on destroying the Crystal Gems along with their leader, Rose Quartz, to avenge the presumed death of her superior, Pink Diamond, which turned her into Steven's archenemy, being the latter's most frequent foe and Amethyst.

She is voiced by Kimberly Brooks, who also played Daisy Fitzroy from BioShock Infinite, and Stormy in the Nickelodeon dub of Winx Club.

Appearance[]

Uncorrupted[]

Jasper has tangerine skin with reddish-orange markings on her face and arms. She has amber eyes and plump lips. Her gemstone is located where a normal nose would be. She has thick, beige-white-colored flowing hair. Physique-wise, she is the archetype Quartz Gem soldier; she has a muscular body and stands both taller and wider than Garnet, an indication of her immense strength and durability.

Pre-regeneration (Debut)[]

She wore a sleeveless bodysuit, similar to Peridot's, with a dark mahogany V-neck collar and a yellow diamond in the center. The torso of the bodysuit is maroon, and the legs are dark mahogany. She wore red boots with dark red toe caps.

Corrupted[]

After her corruption, she became similar in body type to Ocean Jasper and Biggs Jasper, gaining teal striped spikes across her body, losing her eyes, and gaining two ram-like horns on the sides of her head and two smaller horns erupting from her eye sockets. Spikes protrude from multiple areas of her body, and she appears to have beige-colored mane/tuft of hair growing around her neck. Blotches of teal and orange make up her skin, and her teeth became sharp and orange.

Post-regeneration[]

After getting healed from her corruption by Steven and the Diamonds in "Change Your Mind", she still wears a sleeveless bodysuit, however, the torso now has a different design. She now wears a brown-orange square neck tank top with two, slanted pale orange rectangles, an upside-down brown triangle on top and a brown triangle inside the orange rectangles. She also keeps the horns and two teal-colored markings from her corruption, one where her right shoulder and bicep connect and the other covering the thumb and index finger of her left hand.

Post-shattering (Current)[]

After being shattered and then put back together by Steven and the Diamond's essence, her form has extra scarring. Her left horn is sliced in half, revealing a lime-green inside, the red band on her face has a split under her right eye. The colors of the top half of her bodysuit have been inverted and is now a v-neck similar to her first outfit, and the knees are ripped.

Personality[]

Jasper is a bully in the truest sense. Deep down, she's afraid there's something wrong with her, so she has to feed her ego. She has to put other Gems down to stay on top. Who she is and where she's from gnaws at her all the time. She has a fantastic reputation, she's considered the greatest Quartz soldier produced on Earth, and that might impress other Gems, but it will never be good enough for her. She will always feel held back, and she'll always feel the need to go further to get ahead. The Gems live in a society with a very rigid social order and caste system, and Jasper has completely bought into that, and her self-worth is attached to it. Because she loves honor, fighting, making her mark, and winning the battle, she'll actually go against her programming a little bit just to be the winner. So she can be self-destructive at times. She is tragically obsessed with proving her superiority.
~ Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey description of Jasper’s personality.

By all accounts, Jasper is a sympathetic yet brutish character. She is known to be the ruthless, brutal, and cruel general of the Homeworldian Gems, and has a merciless, abusive, wrathful, and temperamental demeanor, as she is known to lash out at anyone; for example, Sapphire, just for singing, she smashed the wall with her fist and screamed at her to stop. She also has a Darwinistic view on life, which morphs into complete arrogance and hatred, as she outright hates and looks down upon the weak and defenseless, as well as favoring herself, as she seems to see herself as the strongest. She was also deeply power-hungry, as she wants nothing more than to become all powerful. Jasper is also determined, even to the point of obsession, as she is willing to get revenge and retribution on anyone who has wronged her. She is also deceitful and manipulative, and knows just how to manipulate others into serving her goals. This is especially shown when she practically forced Lapis into fusing with her, as part of her own power-mad goals. Ironically, that led to her fusion with her and transformation into Malachite, and subsequently being dragged down into the bottom of the ocean and her abuse by Lapis. Apparently, it was so traumatizing that it ended up turning her into a deranged, obsessive, egotistical, callous, and even sadistic being with a desire for more power. Though she still retained her cunning, her cruelty has been increased significantly, and she has been known to pursue immoral methods to get her way. She is also willing to harm children if need be, as she remorselessly attacked Steven and Connie, fused or not, without mercy.

While she originally had a hatred for the concept of fusion, she was willing to fuse with Lapis Lazuli to try and defeat the Crystal Gems, something that would've been seen as a taboo act on Homeworld. She was even willing to fuse with a Corrupted Gem in order to beat Smoky Quartz, showing her desperation for power. Jasper is also fiercely loyal towards Homeworld often believing that any gem that disobeys the Great Diamond Authority should be purged from the system.

Deep underneath her victory first and militaristic personality, Jasper does have an insecure side that sprouts on occasion. An example is where she becomes angered that whenever she tries to fuse, nobody wants to stay fused with her. Rebecca Sugar confirms that Jasper holds a superiority complex and is consumed by a need to prove herself as the strongest by putting down others. This is because that deep down, Jasper does fear that she is defected and continually feeds her ego in order to combat this and is "tragically obsessed with proving her own superiority". She also holds a deep hatred for Rose Quartz due to her "shattering" her former superior, Pink Diamond, and had desired to avenge her.

Even after being healed, Jasper's personality is untouched. Though she finally sees Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond and Steven as separate entities, she's still rebellious towards him, and still refuses any help he offers her. Though, currently, she is opening up more to Steven after she lost to a fight against him, which is represented as she says that he can do what he wants after he asked if he could visit her sometime. It is unknown if she will try to open up to the other Gems. With no Diamond to serve and nowhere to go, all Jasper has left is to train. She channels all of her power and her anger into her training, believing it is not something that should be hidden or locked away. When conversing with Steven, she tells him not to be afraid of his power as he and the other Gems are, saying he should embrace his power and prove he is strong. Jasper only acknowledges the strength of others, as seen when she finally respects Steven after shattering her and bows before him. After being accidentally shattered by Steven and subsequently revived, Jasper acknowledges his incredible power and pledges her loyalty to him, calling Steven her Diamond, and defending him in "Homeworld Bound" when Pearl angrily asks him where he had been during the events of the episode "Fragments". With someone else to serve, she quickly follows Steven and is pleased to see him reject his friends, the people Jasper views as weak. At the same time, she is visibly affected when Steven rejects her support as well, believing that she can no longer help him either and telling her to find something better to do with her life. Jasper watches with a sad face as Steven leaves home, and her current mindset after this is unknown. "The Future" shows Jasper living in Little Homeworld as she busts through walls to confront Steven for not taking her with him, and bids him goodbye as she breaks through another wall.

History[]

Past[]

Jasper was created in the Beta Kindergarten for the sole purpose of fighting against the Crystal Gems halfway through the Rebellion. Despite the rushed state of the Beta Kindergarten which created less desirable gems, Jasper was the only exception and perfectly emerged from her hole as the ultimate quartz soldier. She is said to have popped out of the ground with her helmet already on her head, and took out eighty Crystal Gems that day. Jasper fought until the end of the war, and is one of many Gems who were able to evacuate the Earth when the Diamonds used the Corrupting Light. Jasper grew an immense hatred for Rose Quartz, believing the story that she had shattered Pink Diamond (not knowing they were the same person).

After the war, Jasper was regarded as the best Quartz soldier produced on Earth and became one of Yellow Diamond's Gems.

Thousands of years after the Rebellion, Jasper is assigned by Yellow Diamond to be Peridot's escort to Earth while the latter checks on the Cluster and its prototypes. Jasper willingly accepts, in the hope that she will have the opportunity to destroy Rose and the remnants of her army.

Season 1[]

In "The Message" Jasper is indirectly mentioned by Lapis Lazuli in her message to the Crystal Gems, where she explains that Peridot is coming to Earth with backup.

In "The Return", Jasper arrives on Earth with the mission of being Peridot's escort, assigned by Yellow Diamond, while she checks progress on the Cluster. Upon observing the Crystal Gems, Jasper believes that they are a waste of her time and then ponders where Rose Quartz is because she was looking forward to fighting her. Jasper proceeds to insult each of the Crystal Gems and tells Peridot to blast them with the ship. To Jasper's surprise, the Crystal Gems survive the explosion thanks to Steven's shield. Jasper immediately recognizes the symbol on the shield being Rose Quartz's. She asks Steven, thinking he is Rose, why he took the form of a human boy. In response, Lapis begs Jasper not to hurt him, which prompts Jasper to become enraged at Lapis for withholding information from her. Jasper then disregards the mission and wants to show Yellow Diamond what has become of "Rose". Garnet attacks Jasper, but Jasper summons her Crash Helmet, deflecting her punch. She then causes Garnet to unfuse and poof, using her Gem Destabilizer. She lifts up Steven by his shirt, still thinking that he is Rose, and mocks him, explaining how the Crystal Gems are weak and that Rose has failed. She headbutts Steven and places him, the other Crystal Gems, and Lapis, in jail cells on the Gem Warship.

In "Jail Break", while on the Gem Warship, Jasper tells Peridot that they are going back to Homeworld with the captured Crystal Gems and Lapis. Peridot disagrees, explaining to Jasper that the whole point of coming to Earth was to check progress on the Cluster. Jasper, once again, disregards the mission and tells Peridot that delivering Rose Quartz (Steven) to Yellow Diamond takes priority. Later, Jasper discovers that one of the imprisoned Gems is missing from her cell and finds Garnet in the center of the ship. Jasper is annoyed that Ruby and Sapphire are fused again, and she explains to Garnet that "Fusion is just a cheap tactic to make weak Gems stronger."

Garnet and Jasper begin fighting; Garnet dodges Jasper's attacks and breaks her destabilizer. Jasper then spin-dives at Garnet and causes both of them to fall through the deck and into the ship's engine room. While Garnet sings, she continues to fight with Jasper, once again dodging many of Jasper's attacks. Finally Garnet catches Jasper and throws her into the ship's main power source, causing it to explode.

After the ship crashes on the beach, Jasper crawls out of the ship debris, obviously injured, and explains to Garnet that she only won because she is a fusion. Jasper catches Lapis when she tries to fly away and asks her to fuse with her. Lapis agrees, and the two proceed to fuse into Malachite. However, Lapis uses chains made of water to tie down their fusion. Jasper struggles to escape, and Lapis drags them both to the bottom of the ocean.

Season 2[]

In "Full Disclosure", while singing "Full Disclosure", Steven flashes back to several moments from the previous episodes, such as Jasper destabilizing Garnet, hiding from her on the Gem Warship, Jasper stopping Lapis from escaping, and finally Jasper being trapped underwater as Malachite.

In "Love Letters", after emerging from the ocean, Garnet states she was looking for signs of Lapis and Jasper.

In "Chille Tid", the Crystal Gems has been searching for Lapis and Jasper fusion in the middle of the ocean. While Steven, Amethyst and Pearl stay behind at the Beach House, Garnet go and search the ocean by herself for Lapis and Jasper. When Steven enters Malachite's Realm, it is revealed that Lapis has control of the fusion. Steven's presence, however, distracts Lapis, and Jasper momentarily takes control. Jasper appears exhausted, and when she notices Steven, she becomes enraged. She crawls towards him, repeating the word "You!". When she gets close, she tries to grab Steven. However, she is stopped by Lapis, who once again regains control.

In "Cry for Help", in Peridot's message to Homeworld, she explains that she's lost both Jasper and Lapis.

In "Message Received", while Peridot is contacting Yellow Diamond, she is asked where Jasper is.

Season 3[]

In "Super Watermelon Island", the civilization of Watermelon Stevens on Mask Island attempt to sacrifice one of their numbers to Malachite to stop the earthquakes that troubled the island. Thanks to Steven's vision of the event, the Crystal Gems track her down, and fuse into Alexandrite to fight her. Lapis finally loses control of their fusion and Jasper takes over. She releases the chains that kept Malachite back and is ready to fight Alexandrite. As Malachite, Jasper states, "You know, you're right. There really is something more to this fusion thing! It's not just a cheap trick. You've really shown me a whole new world of possibilities!" Malachite is eventually defeated and forcibly defused by the Gems, with the aid of the Watermelon Stevens. Alexandrite catches the unconscious Jasper and Lapis. Shortly after the fight, a Cluster-related earthquake takes place, creating deep fissures in the ground. Due to Jasper being unconscious, her body slides into the fissure. Pearl tries to catch Jasper, but she is too late to save her from falling.

In "Same Old World", Garnet states that the amount of time and strain Lapis spent fused with Jasper meant she would need a lot of time to recover. When she's awake, Lapis realizes she can't go back to Homeworld after what she did to Jasper.

In "Hit the Diamond", Yellow Diamond sends five Ruby soldiers, Eyeball, Doc, Army, Navy, and Leggy, to retrieve Jasper. It is revealed that she was considered the "leader" of the mission, much to Peridot's surprise that her fellow Crystal Gems do not know Jasper's whereabouts, Steven lies to the Rubies and tells them that Jasper is on Neptune.

In "Alone at Sea", Jasper follows Lapis while she is on a boat with Steven and Greg. Jasper makes multiple attempts to board the ship, such as pulling down and snapping the string off of the fishing rod while Lapis is fishing, and trying to force her way on, causing multiple loud bangs to be heard and making the ship's engine fail. Jasper finally climbs aboard via the anchor chain and expresses her joy at seeing Lapis again. When Jasper sees Steven, she called him Rose but a "dulled-down" version of her and thinks that he is working for Lapis. Steven summons his shield to protect Lapis, but Jasper laughs it off and says that it should be the other way around since Lapis is much more powerful, as Jasper describes her to be a "monster". Eventually, Jasper aggressively hits Steven which flings him across the ship's deck. Jasper gets down on her knees and holds Lapis' hand, begging her to fuse with her again since Malachite was so powerful. Jasper acts manipulative, claiming that she changed, but Lapis rejects the offer. Steven sticks up for Lapis once more which causes Jasper to aggressively charge at him, but with quick reaction, Lapis shoots a water fist through the deck floor, hitting Jasper high into the air and far away to an unknown location.

In "Gem Hunt", follows two Corrupted Gems at the Great North. She poofs one of them (Biggs Jasper) off screen, and later appears in front of Steven and Connie when they are in the middle of fighting a Corrupted Gem. Jasper brutally injures the monster, throwing punches to the face and slamming her to the ground by her tail. Jasper manages to poof the monster by forcefully pulling her gemstone from her body. Steven, Connie, and Pearl (who later shows up) are shocked to see Jasper. Jasper teases Steven, saying "Rose, look what I got.", revealing both of the monsters' gemstones. Jasper then walks away and disappears into the snowstorm.

In "Crack the Whip", Jasper rises out of the ocean on the beach with her two monsters. Before Jasper rose to the surface, Amethyst defeats one of the monsters that appeared first, and Steven bubbles her gem. Once Jasper is on the surface, she is seen on top of the other monster with her crash helmet equipped. Jasper reveals to Steven, Connie, and Amethyst that her plan is to create her own army to rival Rose's (Steven's). Amethyst tells Steven and Connie to go after the monster and that she'll take Jasper herself.

Jasper is amused, but is also disappointed because she wanted to fight Steven, and not a "runt". Jasper then brutally knocks Amethyst on the ground and rolls over her helpless body with a spin dash. Jasper becomes bored, and wonders why Amethyst isn't trying her hardest. She says Amethyst is a Quartz soldier like her, but she's defective, and Jasper says she lives to fight. Amethyst tells Jasper that Rose said she was perfect the way she is. Jasper insults Rose by saying that she had low standards, causing Amethyst to become furious. She spin dashes at Jasper, but Jasper easily stops it and manages to poof her by slamming Amethyst to the ground with her helmet. Jasper holds Amethyst's gemstone in her hand and plans to shatter it.

When Steven and Connie see what Jasper is about to do, they charge at Jasper and fuse into Stevonnie. Jasper is surprised by the fusion, and after Lion launches the monster toward her, the monster tries to flee, but Jasper tugs her by the tail and mounts her. Stevonnie mounts Lion and Jasper is excited to face them head-on. The two charge at each other, on their respective mounts, and at the last second Stevonnie jumps into the air, throws a shield at Jasper, forcing her to catch it, and they poof the monster with Rose's Sword. Jasper takes the monster's gemstone and tells Stevonnie that she will be back and Jaspers always get what they want. She turns away and retreats into the ocean.

In "Steven vs. Amethyst", Pearl and Garnet return to the Beach House after looking for Jasper, only to hear that Stevonnie managed to fight her back. Pearl uses Jasper's return as an opportunity to train with Steven again. While she's fighting Steven, Amethyst proclaims that if she can't defeat him, she'll never be able to beat Jasper.

In "Beta", it is revealed that Jasper was created in the Beta Kindergarten halfway during the war when Homeworld needed to quickly grow more Quartz soldiers. She came out as the perfect Quartz, as described by Peridot. Later, Jasper is shown to have caged up a lot of Corrupted Gems behind metal bars from Injectors in the holes of the Beta Kindergarten.

In "Earthlings", Jasper talks to one of the Great North Monsters (who is caged up) about how she is a disgrace and an embarrassment to Homeworld along with being a pathetic Quartz. Amethyst attempts to sneak up on Jasper by walking across the edge of a cliff above her, but Jasper notices and Amethyst falls to the ground. Jasper wonders if she wants a rematch, and tells Amethyst that she was destined to lose to her the moment she came out wrong.

Steven runs to Amethyst's aid and explains to Jasper how that isn't true, but Jasper claims that all Gems must serve the order of the Diamonds, and those who stray away from that objective must be punished. Jasper says that to come out wrong, to not serve the Diamonds, and to protect the Earth are disgraceful acts.

Amethyst swings her whip before Jasper can counterattack and ends up pushing her back twice, but does no damage. Jasper attacks Amethyst and she falls on the ground, but before another attack can be made, Steven launches his shield and causes an injector to fall, separating Jasper and Amethyst. Steven and Amethyst fuse into Smoky Quartz after Steven cheers her up, and Jasper angrily asks if fusion is the only trick the Crystal Gems can pull off. Jasper becomes enraged by Peridot's laughter and attacks Smoky Quartz head on, but they easily jump out of Jasper's way, causing her to slam into the cliff side and release some of the caged up monsters. Jasper notices that the Corrupted Ocean Jasper is still caged up, and fuses with her. Smoky Quartz is still able to stop this corrupted fusion, and the Corrupted Ocean Jasper flees following Jasper's attempts to forcefully refuse with her.

Jasper lies on the ground with inflamed arms and laughs off the fact that nobody she fuses with ever wants to stay. Green spots began to form on Jasper's body, along with spikes, to Peridot's disgust, causing Smoky Quartz to unfuse when realizing it's corruption. Steven tries to calm Jasper down in order to heal her. Jasper still sees him as the enemy, and says "Rose..." out of breath. Steven explains that he is not Rose and tells her his real name and he just wants to heal Jasper.

Steven licks his hand and reaches out to Jasper, which causes her to lash out and knock Steven backwards. Jasper tells Steven that she understands Rose's methods now: she waits until after Gems are weak and useless and then manipulates them to join her team. Jasper points out how Peridot was stripped of everything, and Peridot explains how the Earth is not a bad place and that she is always learning new things, about the Earth and herself.

Jasper goes on to say, as her corruption worsens, "Earth… is a prison. And I got out because I’m better than this place. I only came back to finish you off. You can’t manipulate me Rose Quartz!... I’ve been fighting from the second I broke free from the Earth’s crust! Because of what YOU did to my colony, because of what YOU did to my planet, because of what YOU did to my Diamond!" Steven asks "Yellow Diamond?", and to Jasper's dismay, she responds, "My Diamond... Your Diamond... PINK! DIAMOND!" before becoming fully corrupted, Peridot launches a bar of metal through Jasper's chest, poofing her, and Amethyst bubbles and sends her to the Temple, referring to her as 'sis, indicating her sympathy towards Jasper's fate.

In "Back to the Moon", Amethyst shapeshifts, pretending to be Jasper in order to deceive the Rubies, who had recently returned to Earth intent on retrieving her.

In "Bubbled", Eyeball reveals that she believed that Rose Quartz were alive due to Jasper's return for Earth. She thought Jasper might have some answers, but she was never able to speak with Jasper.

Season 4[]

In "Kindergarten Kid", the Crystal Gems have to clean after Jasper's mess by poofing and bubbling the corrupted gems that Jasper kept prisoner in the Beta Kindergarten.

In "Know Your Fusion", both Smoky Quartz and Sardonyx joke about Jasper, with the latter remarking she should "go back to preschool."

In "Mindful Education", Stevonnie hallucinates about Jasper's corruption and refusing to be saved as one of the things she feels guilty of, along with being forced to poof Bismuth and throw Eyeball into space, though Connie assures Steven it's okay to regret it and to move on.

In "Room for Ruby", Steven asks Navy if she was mad about Amethyst pretended to be Jasper, which Navy respond "that was pretty clever".

Season 5[]

In "Raising the Barn", Peridot mentions how if it wasn't for herself, Steven would have been "smooshed" by Jasper.

In "Change Your Mind", Jasper is healed along with all the other Corrupted gems by Steven and the Great Diamond Authority at Rose's Fountain, emerging from the waters of the pool and looking over to see Steven, who she still thinks is Rose Quartz, talking with the now uncorrupted Angel Aura Quartz, Biggs Jasper, Ocean Jasper, Watermelon Tourmaline, and Nephrite and summons her Crash Helmet in preparation to attack Steven. When the other gems look at her, Jasper becomes perplexed and then turns around, seeing the Diamonds behind her. Yellow Diamond gives her a stern look, prompting Jasper to remove her Crash Helmet as Yellow brushes it off with a smile. Amethyst then swims over to Jasper and puts her hand on her shoulder and welcomes her back by saying "Hey sis" to her. Jasper lets herself sink back into the water. Later on, Jasper and Amethyst were seen next to the now uncorrupted Bixbite in the Fountain.

Steven Universe: The Movie[]

While singing "Happily Ever After", Steven depicts Jasper as one of the enemies that he fought against when he was younger.

Future[]

In "Little Homeschool", following the events of "Change Your Mind", Jasper found a new home inside of a cave in the wilderness on the outskirts of Beach City. A circular region of stone surrounds the cave, created by Jasper plucking the grass out of the ground, which she considers to be her territory. Any Earthling that steps inside this zone gets "crushed" according to her. Jasper lives here alone, training by throwing boulders to keep up her strength. It is implied Jasper is frustrated by the changes brought about from Era 3.

Steven becomes worried about Jasper, feeling guilty about the fact that there is a Gem still hurting because of the Diamonds and his mother. Amethyst tells him that he can't help everyone, but Steven visits Jasper anyway. Throughout their interaction, Steven attempts to convince Jasper to join him and the other uncorrupted Gems at Little Homeschool, but Jasper refuses, believing the idea to be stupid and a waste of time. When Steven tells Jasper that there is no use in training due to there being nobody else left to fight, Jasper tells him that there will always be people left to fight, it's just a matter of whether or not they are worthy of fighting.

Steven grows frustrated, telling Jasper that the uncorrupted Gems fought by her side, and that they are getting the help they need, but Jasper doesn't care. Steven says that if he didn't care, Jasper would still be corrupted. Jasper then retorts "You think because you did something I never asked for, I'm going to obey you?" Jasper then tells Steven that even though he has Pink Diamond's gem, she tells him that he's not her Diamond, calling him a "weak, sappy, useless piece of dirt." and tells him that if he thinks he's hard enough to give her orders, he needs to prove it in battle. Steven accepts the offer, to Jasper's delight. Jasper kicks Steven around in his bubble, chastising him for focusing more on helping a nest of baby birds (or in her case calling them tiny flapping earthlings) rather than fighting her until she has him pinned to the ground with her foot getting ready to crush his chest.

Jasper condescendingly tells Steven "I don't need your help. You're the one that needs help. You think you've beaten me, but you've never beaten me on your own." Jasper continues belittling Steven by making him aware of his weaknesses (such as relying on his friends or fusion to help him win against her), causing Steven to turn pink. To Jasper's amusement, Steven pushes her foot off of him and violently attacks her by making her crash into countless trees, throwing her in the air with repeated punches, and then slamming her back down to the ground.

Steven becomes frightened that he may of hurt Jasper and apologizes, but Jasper warns him not to apologize. Jasper is happy to have battled in a great fight. Steven admits that Jasper should be teaching him, not the other way around, and asks her to teach him to fight. Jasper kneels down, telling Steven that the fight was his first and only lesson. Steven asks if he can visit her sometime, and Jasper replies "Do what you want.", returning to her cave.

In "Fragments", Steven, frightened of his uncontrollable Diamond powers, flees to Jasper's cave. Jasper tells him that the best way to deal with his powers is to channel and control them, and agrees to train him in exchange for a rematch. After three days of her hard tutelage, he challenges Jasper to a rematch, quickly losing himself in the thrill of combat, culminating in his accidentally shattering Jasper.

Terrified, he rushes home and places her shards in the healing tub, along with the bottles of the essences of the other three Diamonds. Distraught at the prospect of losing Jasper, Steven breaks into tears. Fortunately, through a combination of the Diamond essences and his tears, he manages to bring Jasper back to life.

Upon reforming, Jasper is momentarily shocked that Steven shattered her. Jasper then collects herself, drops to one knee and pledges her servitude to him, finally acknowledging his strength.

In "Growing Pains",recalling potentially traumatic memories from his past, Steven flashes back to Jasper poofing Garnet, Malachite being dragged into the ocean, Jasper attacking him in Malachite's Realm, and witnessing Jasper's corruption.

In "Homeworld Bound", the Crystal Gems are shocked to see Jasper in the bathroom with Steven. Jasper dismisses the Crystal Gems and continues to call Steven "my Diamond". When Steven leaves to go to Homeworld, he tells Jasper to find something better to do with her life instead of pledging her allegiance to him, which greatly upset her.

In "Everything's Fine", Steven accidentally projects recent events on his TV, one of which is him holding Jasper's shattered Gem. Later, while ranting, Steven reveals to his family that he shattered Jasper, but he fixed it.

In the series finale, "The Future", after being absent since the previous two episodes, Jasper returns and meets up with Steven at Little Homeworld, having heard that he was leaving and offered to accompany him for protection. Steven denies her offer, saying he can protect himself which Jasper knew would happen, causing her to punch the ground out of frustration and walk away, begrudgingly stating "Farewell, my Diamond...", proving that she is also upset about Steven leaving despite acting like she isn't bothered by this news.

Jasper: What the-? MY DIAMOND! YOUR DIAMOND! PINK DIAMOND!!!!!!!!
~ Jasper's last words before she became fully corrupted.
You are not my diamond!
~ Jasper to Steven in the trailer.
Listen, weakling! You might have Pink Diamond's gem, but you are not my Diamond! And I am not going to take orders from some weak, sappy, useless piece of dirt! If you think you're hard enough to tell me what to do, then fight me and prove it.
~ Jasper challenging Steven.
What are you holding back for? You think I can't take it? I'm not gonna coddle you Steven. Do you wanna go home to your gems? Are you afraid to be strong? Are you pathetic? Are you weak?
~ Jasper pushing Steven in their rematch.
Jasper: Heard you're leaving. I'm coming with you!
Steven: Jasper, I'm going alone.
Jasper: Then who will protect you?!
Steven: I can protect myself!
Jasper: [sighs and scowls] I know. [punches a hole in the wall and goes into the opposite direction.] Farewell, my Diamond.
~ Jasper's last line after seeing Steven one last time before going back into the hole of the wall in Little Homeschool.

Abilities[]

Jasper possesses standard Gem abilities: bubbling, shapeshifting, fusion, regeneration, agelessness, gravity shifting, weapon-Summoning, photokinesis, gem storage, and superhuman strength/durability. All Era-1 Gems have various powers, including the ability to invoke a weapon, change shape, and strength, agility, speed, and skill beyond human capabilities. Jasper can also take refuge in her gemstone after being wounded to heal. She is also capable of fusion, as shown when she fuses with Lapis Lazuli to form Malachite and later a Corrupted Gem to form a centaur-like monstrosity.

Being a Quartz Gem, her creation was to fit the role of a soldier within Gem culture. According to Peridot (a certified Kindergartener skilled enough to identify the type of Gem that emerged from a particular exit hole with a glance), Jasper is the 'ultimate' Quartz, made completely perfect, implying she is a superior specimen even among her own kind. She is considered the greatest Quartz produced on Earth. As such, she has incredible amounts of physical strength and stamina, making her one of the most physically imposing Gems seen thus far. She is also strong of will, as it takes all of Lapis's concentration to subdue Jasper.

Fusions[]

  • When fused with Lapis Lazuli, they form Malachite.
  • When fused with the Ocean Jasper, they form Zebra Jasper.

Skillset[]

  • Crash Helmet Proficiency: By gathering her resolve and thirst for battle, Jasper can summon her weapon: a tangerine, crystalline helmet. The helmet acts both as a weapon and armor; a hammer-like protrusion in the front of the helmet allows her to use it to charge, slam, and headbutt her opponent, in the shape of a yellow diamond, while a clear, orange-tinted visor extends down, covering the upper part of her face and her gemstone. The strength of the helmet rivals that of Garnet's gauntlets, as Jasper was shown continuously countering her attacks. A fast swing from the front of the helmet was hard enough to poof Amethyst. Its usefulness as armor is shown when she is struck with an extremely powerful blow from Stevonnie using Rose Quartz's sword that would have gone directly into her head without it. While the corrupted Ocean Jasper was riding is poofed from the force of the strike slamming Jasper into her, Jasper was not.
    • Axe Helmet Proficiency: As seen in "Fragments", Jasper has upgraded her Crash Helmet, containing two axe-like blades on the sides of it, which may possibly be related to the horns on her head.
  • Martial Arts: Further reflecting the similarities between herself and Amethyst, Jasper is likewise prone to mixing up her weapon-based attacks with martial arts moves, such as grappling, throwing, or attacking with swift yet powerful punches. Due to the nature of her weapon, the two styles mix seamlessly and combine into a powerful, but ultimately reckless fighting style with immense collateral damage. She is also skilled enough to completely outclass Amethyst.
  • Piloting: Whilst Jasper herself has never demonstrated this ability, it is implied by Doc in "Back to the Moon" that Jasper can pilot Gem ships, such as a Roaming Eye.
  • Digging: In "Beta", she was able to have a skill into digging holes in the previous exit holes of other gems into making them into cages for corrupted gems.

Natural Abilities[]

  • Immense Strength: Jasper is extremely strong. Her strength is further emphasized in "Alone at Sea" when she climbs up the anchor chain on the side of the ship, making the entire ship shake and creating a loud thumping sound. This happens once more when Jasper steps onto the ship. She can beat up and poof Corrupted Gems such as Ocean Jasper by herself, even forcing to fuse with her. In "Little Homeschool" and "Fragments", her strength was fully displayed, destroying and launching massive boulders at Steven, as well as breaking his energy barriers.
  • Immense Durability: Jasper is also one of the most durable Gems ever shown in the series, being capable of withstanding the point-blank explosion of a Gem Warship's reactor, the following crash and explosion of the entire ship unprotected, being hit with enough force to send her flying over the horizon, and being struck with enough force by Rose Quartz's Sword (which has the power to easily destroy a Gems' physical body) to be driven through a Corrupted Gem (poofing it in the process), all without poofing once. It takes Peridot driving a piece of scrap metal clear through her chest and out her back to finally poof her, and even then that was only after she had been corrupted. After turning back to normal, she is defeated when Steven, glowing pink, locks her up with his shields, then crush her using a massive wall with spikes added on it.

Unique Abilities[]

  • Comet Charge: Jasper can lunge at her foes with alarming speed and power, capable of breaking through layers of floors in the hand ship. While she performs this attack, a fiery aura forms around her.
  • Spin Dash: Jasper can rapidly roll in a ball-like shape to attack enemies. While Amethyst was shown to have this ability as well, Jasper's version is far more powerful and destructive.

Weaponry[]

  • Gem Destabilizer: Homeworld Gems, in addition to their summonable weapon, seem to carry a personal defense weapon known as Gem Destabilizers — extremely potent, non-lethal tools used to subdue enemy Gems. Jasper is seen using this weapon on Garnet in "The Return". She attempts to use it again in "Jail Break", but Garnet pried it from her hand and broke it immediately afterward.

Trivia[]

  • Jasper is the third Homeworld Gem introduced in the series, with the first being Lapis and the second being Peridot.
  • Jasper gemstones often represent protection, nurturing, relaxation, and so on. This is ironic given Jasper's cruel and aggressive personality.
  • Jasper's weapon is a charging helmet, similar to the hairstyle Pompadour, good for head-butts, slamming one's head into things, etc. of the sort. Her weapon could also be a reference to how she is "head-strong".
  • Jasper initially believed that Steven was Rose, and that she transformed to take the form of something else, unaware of Steven being a Half-Gem Half-Human hybrid.
  • In "Beta", it is revealed that Jasper was made on Earth in the Beta Kindergarten.
  • Jasper is the first Gem to fuse with a corrupted Gem and is also the first to become corrupted on screen.
  • Jasper's origin seems to be the opposite as Amethyst's. While Amethyst's Kindergarten had perfect resources but came out 'half-baked', Jasper's Kindergarten had poor resources but she came out perfect.
  • Jasper has been defeated four times by a fusion, once by Garnet, Stevonnie, Alexandrite (as Malachite), and Smoky Quartz.
  • Jasper is the final Gem to be freed from corruption, most likely because she was the last and latest Gem to get corrupted.
  • Jasper's battle with Steven in Future marks the first time she fights and is defeated by someone who isn't a fusion. Coincidentally, it also marks the first time Steven physically fights and defeats Jasper (or anyone, for that matter) without fusing with another Gem, getting help from another gem, or defending himself more most of the fight (as the battle has Steven attack her, while most fights have him in defence mode). However, some argue that Steven fought against Peridot without fusing or defending himself, although most of their fights have Steven fighting Peridot with the Crystal Gems help, or fighting her without using his powers.
  • Jasper is the first and only Gem to be shattered in a Steven Universe episode.
    • Jasper's revival also revealed that shattered Gems can be revived with the Diamond's essences, and if all the fragments are put back together.
  • Jasper is the last Gem to be fully redeemed.
