~ Javelin's last words to Harley Quinn. |
Gunter Braun, better known as Javelin, is a minor but pivotal character in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad, the tenth installment of the DC Extended Universe.
He was a former Olympic athlete turned supervillain who was eventually incarcerated in Belle Reve before becoming a member of Rick Flag's first Task Force X team assigned to infiltrate Corto Maltese where he bonded quickly with Harley Quinn.
He was portrayed by Flula Borg, who also voiced The Great Gazoo in Jellystone!.
Biography
Javelin was a former Oylmpic athelete who turned to a life of crime after his career ended. He was eventually arrested and incarcerated in Belle Reve although was later offered by Amanda Waller a chance to join Rick Flag's first Task Force X team sent to Corto Maltese which he accepted. Prior to the mission he met his teammates Captain Boomerang, Blackguard, T.D.K, Weasel, Mongal, Savant and Harley Quinn.
On the helicopter ride to their drop off point Javelin asked T.D.K what his name stood for although the latter avoided the question and the conversation soon turned to Blackguard asking if Weasel was a dog much to the amusement of Boomerang who mockingly asked what kind of dog he thought he was to which both T.D.K and Harley chimed in with the former suggesting Afghan hound and the latter excitedly suggesting a werewolf prompting Blackguard to panic and demand to be let off much to the amusement of the others including Javelin until Rick Flag calmed Blackguard down by explaining what Weasel actually was. Harley complimented Javelin on his accent and the two struck up a flirtatious friendship before the team were dropped off on the shores of Corto Maltese.
When arriving on the island everyone took cover for Flag to debrief them until Blackguard betrayed the team by foolishly trying to surrender himself to the Corto Maltese soldiers only to get himself killed in the process. A battle broke out between the squad and the soldiers with Javelin putting up a decent fight until he got shot in the torso multiple times leaving him to slowly bleed out. Harley Quinn while ducking for cover found herself next to Javelin and was left heartbroken when she realised he was dying. Before succumbing to his wounds Javelin asked Harley to wield his javelin for him, viewing her as worthy of it, unfortunately he died before he could finish his sentence and Harley didn't understand what he meant although kept the javelin as her new primary weapon for the remainder of the film, showing that she wanted to keep the memory of her friend alive even though they didn't have much time together and ultimately the weapon proved crucial to killing Starro so in a sense his death vas avenged.
Personality
Javelin was quite a friendly and easy going man who got on well with his teammates and had a good sense of humour. He also quickly bonded with Harley Quinn when the two began a friendship when he complimented his accent to the point where she was genuinely devastated at his death, Javelin also trusted Harley enough to have her wield his javelin for him and asked her to do this before dying.
Appearance
Javelin was a handsome man with fair skin, green eyes and flowing blonde hair going down to his shoulders. He was always seen wearing his supervillain getup- a yellow leather bodysuit with blue accents and matching blue gloves, boots, shin guards and both knee and elbow pads. He also wore a blue domino mask to protect his identity and carried his signature weapon; a golden javelin with a silver tip.
