~ Jax revealing he's allowed the Fudge to invade the Candy Kingdom. |
Jax is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Ragatha) of The Amazing Digital Circus franchise.
Like the other characters, he was a human who was transported into the world of the Amazing Digital Circus in the avatar of an anthropomorphic purple cartoon rabbit after finding a VR headset that locked on to his face when he jumped on it. In contrast to his peers, who are good people that are either disturbed or solemnly accepting of their new life at the circus, Jax is an apathetic jerk who torments everyone and wants to cause chaos for his personal entertainment.
He is voiced by Michael Kovach, who also voices N from Murder Drones, Rocky Rickaby from Lackadaisy, and the Prototype in Project Playtime.
Appearance[]
With a design reminiscent of 1930s animations, such as Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry, Jax is a purple rabbit with a slim figure, lanky limbs, large feet, and a wide, oval head. He wears bright pink overalls and yellow gloves. On top of his head lies two comically long rabbit hands, with his constantly grinning teeth and the irises of his eyes being the same shade of sickly yellow as his gloves. With the exception of his overalls and the aforementioned eyes and teeth.
Personality[]
In contrast to his peers, who have either been driven mad by (Pomni, Kinger), are apathetic to (Zooble), or solemnly accepting (Ragatha, Gangle) of their new life in the Digital Circus, Jax is an arrogant, abusive, violent and somewhat sociopathic hedonist who embraces his new circumstances, relishing in how he is free to be as a egoistical and conniving without any sort of repercussions. Additionally, he is also quite sadistic, hoping for bloodshed and death to occur during Caine's adventures and being upset when they don't. This thirst for violence had led to him committing deeds of a nefariously lethal variety, such as trying to blow up the truck of the Syrup Bandits with Pomni still on it and opening the gate to the Candy Kingdom so the Fudge can lay waste to its denizens.
Notably, Jax is the most active participant of Caine's challenges and seems to be the savviest at navigating the Digital Circus, having the key to Pomni's room before she arrived. He also takes up a leadership role in adventures, ordering the group to split up to search for Gloinks and ordering Gangle to give him a weapon to attack the Syrup Bandits under the threat of blackmail. Despite this, he seems to have little care for his fellow circus mates, tormenting them whenever he can and not even showing up to Kaufmo's "funeral" after his abstraction.
However, despite his abusive behavior and egotism, Jax doesn't seem to be truly heartless, as he is shown to be upset while watching the abstracted Kaufmo be put in the cellar by Caine and briefly looks sad upon hearing that Zooble has made a funeral for Kaufmo, hinting he there’s a slight change he cares for the other players, but chooses to hide it. Furthermore, Jax's previous action of kicking Kinger and Gangle down the Gloink lair before entering himself to hide from an abstracted Kaufmo imply that he genuinely cares for the welfare of his friends, but simply chooses to express it in an annoying and frustrating way so nobody observes him because he fears they will overreact.
It also seems like Jax only acts this way in the Circus because there are no consequences, much like a troll playing a video game. This might imply that Jax wasn't always this way and years in the Circus had gotten to him.
Biography[]
Prior to the events of the series, Jax was transported into the world of the Amazing Digital Circus at some point before Pomni arrived. Quickly becoming content living in a world where consequences and repercussions don't exist, Jax made it his personal hobby to torment the other members of the Amazing Digital Circus and cause as much chaos as possible to fuel his sadism, specifically targeting Ragatha due to finding messing with her the most fun and Gangle due to her submissive nature and inability to stand up for herself making her the perfect punching bag.
After Pomni arrives in the Amazing Digital Circus, Jax finds her anxiety about the situation to be amusing and decides to mess with her, using Kinger's insanity about the situation he is in as a way to mess with her head and taking pleasure from her believing the experience to just be a bad dream. Jax then steps over Gangle's comedy mask and asks Caine about what the latest adventure will be for Pomni, but Caine tells him he would like to show her around the circus before any adventures occur. After Pomni returns, she makes a comment about an exit door she believed to see, but Jax quickly dismisses it, saying that if there really was an exit door, they would have all escaped by now.
When Zooble is taken by Gloinks, Jax is apathetic to the situation and just simply asks the others if they want to get something to eat, subsequently suggesting Pomni has a jump start in losing her mind after Kinger mentions that Kaufmo had also spoke of an exit, while continuing to show amusement at her believing she is only dreaming. He then decides to travel to Kaufmo's room in the circus with Pomni and Ragatha after ordering Kinger and Gangle to deal with getting Zooble back, something which Ragatha is concerned about due to their mental instability but Jax brushes it off and simply travels to Kaufmo's room.
When Kaufmo doesn't open the door to his room, Jax reveals that he has a key to the room so he can unlock it, something which Ragatha is concerned with since Jax shouldn't have keys to anyone's room but his own. Jax reveals that he has keys to multiple places inside the circus and they have all been fine so far, later adding that he left a centipede in Ragatha's room, aware that she has a fear of centipedes to torment her. After unlocking the door to Kaufmo's room, Kaufmo is revealed to have gone insane and abstracted, something that horrifies everyone but Jax quickly thanks Kaufmo for keeping a bowling ball he had been searching for safe before leaving the two to fend off the abstracted Kaufmo by themselves.
Jax runs into Gangle and Kinger, who both notice a hole in the floor where they believe Zooble was taken. Kinger then greets Jax and Gangle questions on if Kaufmo is still mad with her for not laughing at his jokes, which Jax simply responds with "oh he's doing great. In fact, I don't think I've seen him this happy before". Hearing Kaufmo's distant footsteps, Jax knocks Kinger down the hole by throwing the bowling ball at him who subsequently takes Gangle down with him before Jax leaps down the hole himself. After a brief moment of silence, the trio come face to face with the Gloink Queen, to which Jax disrespects her, saying that he wished she asked for his consent before looking at something as disgusting as her appearance.
Zooble then asks for help after the Gloinks take her towards the Gloink Queen to be eaten, but Jax is apathetic once again, stating he doesn't want to help Zooble because of her rude comment about calling them idiots. Zooble's head is eaten by the Gloink Queen but Jax remains calm, believing that she will survive the encounter. He then insults the Gloink Queen yet again by calling her dumb and weird, then stating he is not interested in the adventure and is just trying to hide from Kaufmo. Kaufmo then crashes through the floor into the lair and Jax reveals that he knew about Kaufmo being abstracted and simply tells Gangle to "not worry about it".
After Zooble's head is spat out by the Gloink Queen, the four escape through an escalator and reunite with Caine, who then imprisons Kaufmo in a special prison designed for all the abstracted humans. They all then have a feast as a reward granted by Caine for defeating the Gloink Queen and the episode ends.
The next day, the group embark on a new adventure that is about stopping a group of thieves who stole a syrup tanker from a kingdom that is made up of candy people. Jax is initially disinterested, but becomes ecstatic when he realizes this is an opportunity to cause chaos and enthusiastically jumps into the "war rig" that is a truck, but is disappointed when the horn for the truck is goofy, telling Gangle to drive instead. When the group locates the thieves, Jax tells Gangle that once they get close enough, he will leap outside the truck, crawl into the driver's seat and shoot the thieves until they are unrecognizable. Gangle believes it is immoral, but Jax just simply demands her to keep driving.
Jax then throws Pomni out of the truck and forces her to create a bridge between the two trucks for him to walk across. He then finds a bazooka in the truck and attempts to walk on Pomni to reach the enemy truck, but Pomni loses grip and the bridge breaks. Jax then demands for Gangle to get closer to the trucks after they are separated by a rocky road, even going as far as to ask her to ram the truck off the road despite Pomni still being on it. Jax then blackmails Gangle into doing it after threatening to tell Ragatha about "the figurine thing" and Gangle complies. However, the group is unable to ram them again due to the thieves deploying defensive spikes on the side of their truck and the group then fall into a canyon after Kinger throws an anchor that had a rope in the truck attached to it.
The group then come face to face with The Fudge, who Jax takes a liking to after the Fudge reveals he previously murdered the townsfolk at the Candy Kingdom by eating them. Jax decides to make a deal with the Fudge, if he aids them with capturing the thieves, Jax will unlock the gates to the Candy Kingdom so the Fudge can eat its population. However, two of the thieves interrupt their conversation before the Fudge can accept the deal, but the Fudge still takes both the heroes and the thieves back to the kingdom anyway. Jax is disappointed with the anti-climax of the adventure, wishing there was a big final battle to go along with it, or at least death and chaos, but it all ended with nothing noteworthy.
After the group arrive back to the kingdom, Jax reveals he left the front gate to the kingdom unlocked after hearing a distant explosion, the impending death of the townsfolk invigorating him before running through a portal with the others to leave the townsfolk to be devoured by the Fudge. The group then hold a funeral for Kaufmo, Jax briefly looks saddened upon hearing about it before quickly looking like he's annoyed and returns off to his room instead.
Some time later, Jax and the others are having a breath holding competition with Pomni, eager to find out what happens when she does so since all of them have unique effects. When questioned about his reluctance to hold his breath, Jax insists that he's just trying to intensify a sense of mystery over what he can do. Suddenly, Caine arrives and sends them on an adventure to Mildenhall Manor, where they are supposed to interact with the supernatural spirits living there. At the manor, Jax torments Pomni after learning that she's susceptible to jumpscares. The humans arrive at a room where a ghost named Ghostly manifests, introducing himself as their guide only for Jax to suck him up with a vacuum cleaner. The humans are offered two doors to go through: one leading to a tame, scare-free adventure, and another one leading to a scary one. Jax rips off Gangle's comedy mask and chucks it at a wall, revealing a gigantic maw leading to an alternate path. Kinger jumps in to grab Gangle's mask back, accidentally dragging Pomni along as he was trying to fit her eyes back in when they popped out at seeing Ghostly.
The trio continue on the safe route. They meet the lady of the manor, Baroness Mildenhall (who seemingly tied up Jax after he tried to suck her up as well), who reveals that the scary route Kinger and Pomni are on is inhabited by her husband and accidental murderer Baron Mildenhall, who she warns is incredibly dramatic and stuck-up. After having a tea party with the Baroness, the trio leave back to the entrance hall to await their friends. After some time, Pomni and Kinger emerge from a secret passageway, upon which the former thanks Ragatha for always looking out for her, having realised she hasn't shown much appreciation. Thus, the humans leave back to the Circus, where Jax is disturbed by Caine calling them "meowing milkmaids". Noticing Kinger going back into his pillow fort, Jax mocks Pomni by asking her how her time with Kinger was, to which she admits that he's actually rather nice, annoying Jax.

Trivia[]
- At 22 years old, Jax is the youngest member of the Circus, with Zooble being only six months older than him.
- As stated by his voice actor Michael Kovach, Jax was meant to originally have a softer voice akin to Raggedy Andy's, but thanks to it being too sincere for his egotistical personality, Jax was given a more tough and vulgar tone instead.
- Gooseworx has stated that she personally finds Jax her favorite character. Ironically enough, almost nobody in the circus likes Jax and it's been outright stated that no one deserves to be trapped there more than him.
- Despite this, Gooseworx has stated that Jax's behavior stems from an unseen broken past, stating "everyone has a reason for why they act the way they do" and "Jax is a troubled character. You'll learn all about him someday." This means that he will likely receive some more character development in the future.
- Seeing as he directly talks to the audience in the first episode, Jax is the only character other than Caine who's implied to be self-aware in the series.
- Jax's violent and sadistic nature may also be related to the fact that he's the member of the group who's the most aware he's in a game and as such, treats all of its denizens meanly thanks to acknowledging that nobody is hurt (mostly) at the end.
- Jax also directly talks to the viewers when he asks them to guess what happens if he holds his breath in the third episode.
- Aside from when he gets strangled by Zooble in the pilot, Jax never opens his mouth to talk.
- Jax was initially planned to be female before being gender-swapped with Pomni.
- Gooseworx has stated that Episode 6 (which has yet to be released as of writing) will mainly focus on Jax as the deuteragonist of the episode.
- Interestingly, she also stated that Episode 3 (which is also currently unreleased) will depict very little action from Jax as Zooble and Kinger are the main focus. This is later shown as Jax is tied up by Gangle and Ragatha to stop his chaos.
- Unlike the other humans, Jax's room isn't displayed on the background of his character pin, implying that it's a spoiler for a future episode.
- Interestingly, the background for said pin displays his door with rips showing the Void, which could have some curious implications.
- Following the implication that Caine may have mixed up the humans and NPCs at one point, Jax has popularly been theorized to be a rogue NPC. This is because, not only is Jax's behavior markedly different from the rest of the cast, being hedonistic and cruel, he also seems weirdly knowledgable about the Circus, allegedly possessing keys to all parts of it.
- Furthermore, his awareness about the Circus's virtual nature and seemingly, the fourth wall make him extremely suspicious.
- As revealed by Gooseworx, Jax was the one who came up with Gangle’s name.
- This heavily implies that Jax has been in the circus longer than Gangle has.
- Fitting with his chaotic nature, Jax's favorite website is 4Chan.
