Biography[]
For 5 years, the FBI and LAPD have been after Jean LaFleur for his illegal drug smuggling and dealing operations, but always managed to evade the law by constantly shifting his operations between the United States and Mexico, making him the most wanted man in the Northern hemisphere, mainly in San Diego.
Recently, word has it LaFleur is bringing a large shipment of heroin through the town of Los Angeles despite the SDPD having done an excellent job in closing down the harbor and airports on him. Nevertheless, LaFleur and his men manage to smuggle the drugs from a cargo hold carrying a museum exhibit for an Ancient Egyptian Temple before it hits customs, thus, making it look like a heist to throw the cops off-track. Then, LaFleur has 3 of his men drive the shipment inside a "B" truck in order to get it to a bonded warehouse at San Diego within 3 hours where a drug deal is to take place.
When the truck arrives, LaFleur has his men carry it and brought over to another section of the warehouse with a magnet; unaware that the LAPD, FBI, and a jewel thief named Miles Logan reluctantly posing as a newly transferred police detective named Malone seized the truck earlier and it is now being driven by Benny the driver they arrested earlier, accompanied by Miles replacing his 2 former associates now in custody with the drugs being used as bait in an LAPD/FBI sting operation (Miles' friend, Tulley and their traitorous partner, Deacon having unwittingly tagged along for a different purpose involving a 17 million dollar diamond recently recovered by Miles, which they stole, but lost 2 years ago in a heist gone wrong; thanks to Deacon's betrayal which led to Miles' arrest and his best friend, Eddie's murder in the first place). Then, LaFleur asks Benny about the delay before being introduced to and confronting Miles now posing as another crook named Pete while also trying to convince him that Tulley is a stone-cold killer and he's not a cop to throw him off suspicions. Nevertheless, LaFleur orders his men to search them before having Tulley locked in the car.
Thinking of a way to get him killed, Deacon tries to expose to LaFleur that Miles is a cop when LaFleur asks him to tell the truth, but LaFleur comes up with an idea for Miles to prove to him that he's not a cop by killing Deacon with his gun loaded with one bullet only. However, Miles shoots Deacon in the arm, but LaFleur wants him to shoot him dead, so, he reloads the gun with another bullet again. Nervously pointing the gun at his former partner, the FBI and LAPD suddenly raid the warehouse, arresting and killing the drug dealers including LaFleur arrested by Detective Carlson, a friendly but naive cop Miles befriended along the way and later, saves from being killed when the former tries to escape in a car during the shootout, which allows Tulley to escape with some drugs he steals from the shipment while Deacon escapes in an armored truck to Mexico with the diamond in hand before he is eventually caught after a long chase and finally shot dead by Miles, thus, avenging Eddie's death. Then, Miles happily manages to escape to Mexico with the diamond after exchanging friendly good-byes with Detectives Carlson and Hardcastle, who are actually grateful for all of his help and see him as a friend despite his fib having finally been exposed and other than the fact that he's a few inches to the border now, thus, can't be arrested either way.
