Villain Overview

Go to sleep.
~ Jeff the Killer's most famous quote.
I couldn’t see my face. I got tired and my eyes started to close. I burned out the eyelids so I could forever see myself; my new face. What’s wrong mommy? Aren’t I beautiful?
~ Jeff to his mother.

Jeffrey Alan Woods (originally known as Jeffrey C. Hodek), also more commonly known as Jeff the Killer, is the titular main protagonist of the Creepypasta short story of the same name by the brother of GameFuelTv. He is a teenage boy who loses his sanity and becomes a serial killer to satisfy his homicidal urges.

Appearance

Jeff has extremely pale skin and burnt off eyelids, giving him a more ghostly appearance. Jeff later got his most distinctive trait, the Glasgow smile, that he had carved into his face with a knife. His build is commonly described as slim but fit at the same time and reaching a height of around 5 to 6 feet (1.5 to 1.8 m). His clothing normally consists of a pair of black, skinny jeans with a white-hooded sweatshirt, sometimes stained with fresh and old blood from his victims.

Personality

Jeff appears to be an extremely cruel, sadistic, and insane individual. The smile on Jeff's face represents his sadism and overall bloodlust. His appearance shows just how much he will focus on harming somebody.

In many fanmade depictions, Jeff is primarily presented as a vain, narcissistic, emo-type teenager, who has absolutely no intention of following general rules and will only listen to himself. He appears to be a mastermind when it comes to his emotions, managing to hide them and constantly pushes the attitude of ignorance towards everything.

It is believed that Jeff is vain and full of his own self, but the reality is that Jeff actually hates himself and has numerous stresses over his physical appearance. Jeff also appears to be having issues with people leaving and forgetting him in their lives totally. Before he had lost his mind, he was a very quiet and anti-social, and people didn’t knew much about Jeff. His voice also appears to be very eerie and soft, and he speaks in a rather calm and polite manner.

Relations

Jane the Killer

Clearly, Jane the Killer was based on Jeff the Killer. It is believed that Jeff murdered Jane's parents, ultimately causing Jane to lose her mind, and motivated her to become the female version of Jeff, and create her revenge, which consists of hunting down and murdering Jeff. Others believes that Jeff managed to kill her and his whole families, and that he lit Jane on fire, causing her to become disfigured. Although these are all speculations.

Slender Man

Some theories suggest that Slender Man and Jeff the Killer are aware of each other's existence. Primarily suggesting that they are each others rivals. In order to defeat each other, Jeff is using his knives and Slender Man is using his tentacles.

Powers and Abilities

  • Stealth: One of Jeff's most dangerous assets as a serial killer is his stealth, having avoided capture ever since he started his killing sprees. Jeff is capable of infiltrating homes, and can get into and out of houses easily without being heard or noticed. He has also been in public places and has blended in with society while remaining unnoticed/ignored, despite his clothes being stained with blood. Like most serial killers, Jeff can easily avoid all means of tracking, the massacre of whatever remains of his victims being the only things left behind. He can blend in with society and easily avoid being noticed by others. His presence can even mislead victims into believing that they can see him roaming their house.
  • Speed: Jeff is known for being very fast on his feet. He is quick enough to dodge bullets/incoming attacks, appear to vanish in plain sight, and perceive time much faster than even the fastest humans. Because he is such a good killer, there have been times when he has automatically evaded attacks intended to kill him, despite not having to think about it. This along with his frightening amount of stamina allows him to make for his lack of supernatural powers with extraordinary athleticism, extremely fast reflexes, and frightening stamina.
  • Strength: Despite only being a teenager, Jeff shows to be much stronger than an average human. He is powerful enough to kill people twice his own size, break limbs with his bare hands, and easily beat someone to death. This combined with his murderous instincts make him a dangerous and deadly killer.
  • Durability: Ever since he suffered neurological damage from being burned alive with bleach and alcohol, Jeff has shown to be extremely durable to where he can withstand just as much punishment as he can give. He can withstand massive amounts of blood loss, bullets, knife wounds, being tortured, and even being impaled and still fight at his normal strength. In most cases, Jeff either enjoys pain or rarely lets it bother him. Despite being a human, this is why he is said to be extremely tolerant to certain types of discomfort.
  • Manipulation: In some occurrences, Jeff can present himself as a nice and charming individual, in order to manipulate his victim, with the intentions of backstabbing them in the near future.
  • Killing Intent: Due to his Jeff’s has shown to utilize his killing intention to intimidate his victims to the point of having a psychological effect, easily breaking the wills of others. His killing intent allows him to apply enough psychological pressure to paralyze his victims in immense fear and even force them to visualize morbid hallucinations of gruesome deaths (whether it be their own death or that of someone else). This is powerful enough to kill victims by applying enough pressure to force their minds to believe that their death is actually happening and even allowing his menacing presence to force them to see tangible hallucinations of dead bodies in certain parts of their house, which couldn’t even be identified by the police. Due to his vast knowledge on killing, the real extant of this ability’s effectiveness is unknown.
  • Killing Intuition: Due to his unusual hatred and years of killing, Jeff has a knack for killing most living beings by easily exploiting their weaknesses. Because of this, his insatiable desire to kill is legendary, knowing enough about killing enough to figure out one’s weaknesses, even if they were to be supernatural creatures. As long as they have a weakness, this allows his attacks to harm them regardless of how powerful they are said to be. (weakness = potential lethality).

Weaknesses

  • Human Conditioning: Despite being a dangerously strong and bloodthirsty killer who should under no circumstance be underestimated, there is still the fact that Jeff’s body is only above-average human and has its own limits. There are times when he can still be overpowered, outnumbered, and outsmarted. In the same way, while Jeff is at the peak human condition, with physical prowess far above an average citizen, in time Jeff is still going to get old and lose his physical prime some day, despite his longevity also being at peak human levels. To finish, Jeff can only withstand general illnesses up to peak human levels, which means that he is not entirely immune to illnesses due to him still being a human. However, keeping all this in mind, Jeff’s level of attributes can only allow him to endure so much. He cannot endure things like decapitation, powerful explosions, etc.,. Because his neurological anesthetic condition only suppresses pain, he is neither invulnerable nor immortal, but rather incredibly difficult to kill.

Slicing certain vital parts of his body could disable him, depending on the severity, and while his tolerance for blood loss has proven to be high (Ex: being brutally impaled on a tree branch by the Slender Man before he recovered and killed a married couple who had found him lying on the ground after the fight), he still has his limits.

  • Insanity: While he does have his clever and manipulative moments, it should be noted that Jeff is still insane, due to Central Nervous System Depression from the anesthetic neurological damage from being set on fire with a naturally produced chemical called “ethyl chloride” (anesthetic chemical produced from bleach reacting to the water and ethanol contents of vodka) poured on him (especially on his head). Because of this, he is most likely suffering from inhibitions within the neural impulses responsible for sensory neurons much similar to the numbness symptoms from frostbite.

Because of his insanity, he no longer has control over his bloodlust, and it will emerge whenever it does since this does not affect his homicidal urges. When he was set on fire while with bleach and vodka on him, it had inhibited his sensory neurons of his central nervous system, which decreased his rate of concentration on certain things. When his bloodlust emerges, it sometimes becomes overwhelming to the point where he is unable to think. He is prone to make unpredictable moves and decisions. Sometimes, Jeff will go straight for the kill instead of acting pragmatically and formulating plans.

Trivia

  • A reboot of Jeff the Killer, written by K. Banning Kellum, is available on The Chilling Tales For Dark Nights YouTube channel.
  • One of Jeff's most villainous acts were revealed in "Jane The Killer: The Real Story" when he murders Jane Arkensaw's family, friends, and his own family like in the original story and lights her on fire by using bleach and gasoline, leaving her scarred and disfigured. He did something similar to this act in her original story however it wasn't portrayed as dramatic as the latter.
  • Despite being one of the most famous Creepypastas, Jeff's original story was removed from the Creepypasta Wiki for failing quality standards. However, the remake of the Creepypasta remains on the wiki.
  • Jeff the Killer's story was featured on one episode of Internet Historian's series Sundance Rejects, which features the titular character being voiced by Top15's Chills.
  • The original, unedited version of Jeff the Killer's iconic image remains a popular internet mystery, with people still trying to search for the image's source to this day. A widespread rumor stated that it was originally a picture of "Katy Robinson", the alleged sister of a 4chan user, who had committed suicide due to relentless cyber-bullying in the /b/ forum. This rumor was later on confirmed to be a hoax and the search for the original image continues to this day.
  • Due to the overall negative reception of Jeff's original story, several adaptations have been made, one notable one being David Near's new version of it, which is part of his series The Morgue Files.
  • In the 2015 remake of the Creepypasta, Jeff seems to be less villainous, as he had a much more understandable reason to attack his parents and he spared his brother Liu out of genuine love for him. Even if he were to survive in the original story-line, Liu would still forgive his brother despite suffering horrific injuries.
