Jefferson Keane

Jefferson Kene was a cunning and cold blooded thug who was convicted for killing a couple on their wedding day after they ripped off his package. When he is sent to Oz he becomes leader of the black inmates. In the first season Tim McManus picks him to be part of Emerald City, his new expiremental unit designed to help rehabilitate prisoners.

Keane argues with Kareem Said who shows displeasure over his men selling drugs. Said shows he lacks fear by instructing one of his fellow muslims to hit him, causing Keane to think that Said is nuts.

Keane is approached by Ryan O'Reily to organize a hit on  Dino Ortolani but Keane refuses as he doesn't want to deal with the ramifications of whacking a wiseguy. Keane's brother Billie Keane makes passes at Dino who then attacks him. Keane then changes his mind and sucscessfully plots Ortolani's death with O'Reily. O'Reily bribes CO Mike Healy to let  homeboy Johnny Post into Dino's cell and Post kills Dino.

When O'Reily discovers  Dino's uncle Nino Schibetta is out for revenge he suggests to Keane that they give Post up to Nino and pin the blame for Dino's death on him however Keane is disgusted by this and says he would never betray one of his own brothers.

Keane converts to islam partly out of grattitude to Said for convincing Warden Glynn to let him marry his girlfriend Mavis. Keane shows no interest in avenging Johnny Who has been killed by the italians as payback for Dino. This attitude is seen as soft and Keane is exhiled from the gang with Adebisi replacing him as leader. Keane then goes to Ryan and tells him to change his ways before it's too late. Ryan becomes fearful Keane will snitch on him and tells Nino he was the one who ordered the hit on Dino. Ryan then offers to arrange Keane's death as a show of good faith which Nino accepts.

Ryan pays off two COs  to set Keane up for a fight with two latino inmates in the gym. Keane survives and kills them in self-defense. The COs record this but only the part where Keane kills the latinos and he is sentenced to death. Tobias Beecher learns  Keane was set up and wants to file an appeal on his behalf but Keane wishes to stay on Death Row as he fears falling back into his old ways and belives his death may bring an end to the war between the italians and the Homeboys. Before he dies Keane wishes to donate a kidney to his dying sister Grace. McManus and Father Mukada ensure this wish is granted. Keane choses to be killed by the electric chair and his last words before he dies are to tell his family how much he loves them.
