Jelletons are the secondary antagonists of Splatoon 3: Side Order. Created by Order, they act as guardians of the Spire of Order and relentlessly attack Agent 8 in an attempt to halt the heroic Octoling's progress up the tower.

Biography[]

After Order attained sentience and began its conquest to eliminate free will from the world, it created a series of mechanical constructs modeled after various sea creatures to defend its base of operations, the Spire of Order, from any intruders who might try to put a stop to Order's plans. These creatures would go on to be dubbed as "Jelletons" by Acht due to their bodies having a skeletal appearance and being covered in a gelatinous substance.

The Jelletons come in many varieties, each one boasting a wildly different anatomy and set of abilities, but they are all unified by two traits. The first of these traits is their ghastly appearances, as each type of Jelleton sports a white body with bulging red eyes. The second is their single-minded goal of destroying Agent 8 in order to prevent them from reaching the top of the Order of Spire. On each floor that Agent 8 visits, the Jelletons appear in droves and tirelessly attack 8 until they either succeed in killing 8 or are killed themselves. Even if all the Jelletons on a floor are destroyed, more will eventually enter through Jelleton portals; the only way to escape their undying wrath is to complete the current floor's objective in order to gain access to the next floor.

Members[]

Lesser Jelletons[]

  • Swarming Languendo: A very small and weak fish-like Jelleton that makes up for its low durability with speed and numbers, appearing in large groups and able to pursue Agent 8 at high speeds while leaving behind an ink trail. This type of Jelleton can also produce a spine-like column underneath it to adjust its height so it can scale certain surfaces more easily.
  • Marching Andante: A bigger fish-themed Jelleton that behaves similarly to a Swarming Languendo and has higher health, but moves a little more slowly.
  • Battering Lento: A huge Jelleton modeled after a male red stump-nosed seabream (though with elements of a beluga whale in its design) that moves very slowly and doesn't leave any ink trails behind when moving, but has very high health and can deal massive damage with its headbutt attack should it catch up to Agent 8. In later levels, some Battering Lentos may appear carrying a different type of Jelleton on their backs; once a Battering Lento in this scenario is destroyed, the Jelleton it was carrying on its back will start attacking Agent 8 on its own.
  • Portal: A stationary device that sometimes generates a group of Jelletons en masse. Most floors contain portals that are indestructible, but some contain a different type of portal that resembles a floating sphere and can be destroyed, requiring Agent 8 to destroy all of them to advance to the next floor.
  • Drizzling Capriccioso: A flying fish-like Jelleton that appears exclusively on floors where the goal is to defend a designated splat zone from the Jelletons. Its tail constantly sprays ink, allowing it to cover the ground below with its ink as it flies around. Upon being spawned from a portal, a Drizzling Capriccioso will fly towards the closest splat zone and hover above it until it's killed, able to quickly take control of the zone if it's not destroyed in a timely manner.
  • Panicking Alla Mambo: A sunfish-based Jelleton that, unlike the rest of its brethren, doesn't openly attack Agent 8 and instead tries to flee from them. If Agent 8 attempts to pursue a fleeing Panicking Alla Mambo, it'll drop a splat bomb in retaliation. Panicking Alla Mambos move very fast but can be slowed down by trapping them in 8's ink.
  • Whirling Accelerando: A top-shaped Jelleton based off a barnacle that attacks by tucking into its shell and spinning around the room, leaving a large ink trail in its wake. Its head is its only weak spot, so it can only be damaged when it's not attacking. Once a Whirling Accelerando is destroyed, it leaves behind its shell, which can be walked into to send it spinning into enemies for heavy damage.
  • Springing Spiccato: A Jelleton modeled after a lamprey that hops towards Agent 8 and sometimes performs an extra big jump to splash ink all around it. When killed, it leaves behind a pedestal that can launch Agent 8 high into the air if they jump on it.
  • Gushing Trionfale: A Jelleton modeled after a clam that sometimes spits up a capsule that breaks open to reveal either a splat bomb or toxic mist. These capsules can be painted with Agent 8's ink to cause the weapons inside to damage other Jelletons instead of hurting 8.
  • Spawning Accordo: A large Jelleton modeled after an anglerfish that has several orbs hanging from the top of its head. These orbs sometimes produce Homing Arpeggios which act like homing missiles, making it necessary to try to destroy as many of the orbs as possible to hamper the Spawning Accordo's summoning capabilities. If all the orbs on a Spawning Accordo are destroyed, the Spawning Accordo itself will self-destruct.
  • Homing Arpeggio: A smaller anglerfish-based Jelleton that flies through the air and constantly seeks out Agent 8 like a homing missile. Homing Arpeggios are only ever spawned from Spawning Accordos and certain bosses.
  • Towering Nobilmente: A stationary Jelleton modeled after a pipefish that has accurate aiming and can shoot ink blasts at Agent 8 from very far away. A Towering Nobilmente's body is segmented and all the segments can be destroyed, but the head has to be destroyed in order to kill the Jelleton for good; otherwise, it'll simply regrow all the segments that were destroyed.

Boss Jelletons[]

  • Marina Agitando: The mechanical form Order takes using Marina as its host, which Agent 8 encounters on top of the Spire of Order after climbing it for the very first time. During the battle, Marina Agitando attacks by shooting barrages of ink blasts at Agent 8 while some portals around the room continously spawn Jelletons. The portals power a barrier that protect Marina from damage, requiring 8 to destroy all the portals in order to deactivate the barrier and render Marina vulnerable to damage.
  • Asynchronous Rondo: A massive funnel-shaped Jelleton boss comprised of several rotating layers which each have a face which serves as a weak point. The bottommost layer emits a searchlight that can detect Agent 8 if they are caught within its line of sight; if this happens, the Asynchronous Rondo may either spawn a horde of Jelletons or use one of several ink-based attacks.
  • Pinging Mariacle: A large spherical Jelleton boss modelled after a sea urchin that rolls around the room and attacks by summoning Jelletons. deploying splat bombs, shooting beams of ink, and charging at Agent 8. The Pinging Mariacle is covered in armor and can normally only be damaged by shooting at its two weak points, but certain attacks can crack its armor open to make it easier to attack for a short while before the boss recovers. As the Pinging Mariacle's health dwindles, it grows smaller, making it harder to hit.
  • Parallel Canon: A group of Jelletons that take the form of robotic Inklings. They fight Agent 8 in a series of waves, with each one having a larger number of units, and are equipped with various types of weapons. Parallel Canon units are also accompanied by flying drones which sometimes summon a small group of Jelletons.
  • Overlorder: A monstrous octopus-like form assumed by Order once Agent 8 reaches the Spire of Order's 30th floor. The Overlorder's battle is similar to Marina Agitando's but it has three phases instead of just one, and it can use many more attacks. Additionally, there's also a fourth phase that is only fought if Agent 8 hasn't beaten the Spire of Order before; in this phase, the Overlorder steals all of 8's Color Chips, forcing them to fight the Overlorder without any boosts whatsoever. However, each portal in this phase yields a more powerful Spectrum Chip when destroyed; once 8 acquires all the Spectrum Chips, they can use Pearl's Killer Wail 5.1 to destroy the Overlorder and put an end to its plans.

Trivia[]

  • The Jelletons are the first enemies in the Splatoon series to use black ink.
  • Aside from the Overlorder, all of the Jelletons are named after a musical term.
  • Later dialogue reveals that the templates for the Jelletons were first created by Marina to serve as staff for the Spire of Order, but they were repurposed by Order to become the Jelletons.
  • Although the Parallel Cannon take the form of robotic Inklings, their squid forms are exactly the same as normal Inklings.
