The Jellyspotters are the main antagonists of the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic".
They are a jellyfishing group lead by Kevin C. Cucumber who haze their own fans for their amusement, however, after SpongeBob saves them from the King Jellyfish, they redeem themselves by kicking Kevin out of the group. Additionally, it's revealed in the episode "Mooned!" that Patrick became their new leader.
Biography[]
In "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic", Kevin answered several questions from the crowd that were swarming his stand, with him bragging about the materials that he use for his Jellyfishing Net. After discovering the Jellyspotters and Kevin, SpongeBob becomes enamored by them due to the fact that the Jellyspotters were the premier Jellyfish enthusiast club. As SpongeBob aims to get Kevin's wisdom, Patrick was seemingly unenthusiastic by the idea as he found them to be geeky. When Patrick was busy chasing Jeffrey the Jellyfish in order to touch him, SpongeBob then approached Kevin and his group. Seemingly annoyed by SpongeBob's excessive and creepy adoration, Kevin initially wanted to call security to get rid of him. However, as SpongeBob decided to do whatever Kevin told him to do, such as punching himself in the face or jumping off the building, Kevin then decided to let SpongeBob join his group instead. It was then revealed that Kevin's motivation for allowing SpongeBob join his group was not altruism, but instead his own twisted desires to see SpongeBob experience physical and emotional anguish.
After joining the Jellyspotters group, SpongeBob and the Jellyspotters then went into the Jellyfish Fields with SpongeBob carrying the Jellyspotters on his back. After SpongeBob expresses his enthusiasm about joining the Jellyspotters, Kevin decides to arrange a test for him by capturing a jellyfish so that SpongeBob can join the group. After Kevin and the anchovies see how SpongeBob manages to capture the jellyfish easier due to the fact that the jellyfish came after him, Kevin instantly rejects his attempt and increases the requirement of capturing Jellyfish. This causes Kevin to get stung several times by the Jellyfish. Despite his attempts to get SpongeBob stung, such as spreading Jellyfish jelly to him or capturing Jellyfish with a blind eye, Kevin was still relentlessly stung by several Jellyfish that SpongeBob captured until all of the Jellyfish wounds began to engulf his body. Due to being constantly stung by all of the Jellyfish, Kevin's hatred of SpongeBob began to grow. As a result, Kevin then devised an idea by arranging a final test for SpongeBob so he could join the Jellyspotters group.
It was then revealed that the final test was to capture the Queen Jellyfish, using SpongeBob as bait. SpongeBob didn't catch on, and he was completely excited at the prospect of capturing the Queen Jellyfish alongside Kevin and the Jellyspotters. After tying SpongeBob to two poles and making him use the blower to call the Queen Jellyfish, Kevin and the Jellyspotters then hid behind a bush, which caused Kevin to get stung by another Jellyfish. After a seemingly futile attempt at calling the Queen Jellyfish that continues for one day straight, SpongeBob finds out that Kevin's plans didn't work. However, after he saw that Queen Jellyfish hovering above him, SpongeBob decided to tell Kevin the good news. However, when SpongeBob checks the bushes, Kevin and the Jellyspotters are nowhere to be seen, only leaving his sting ointment. Afterwards, the Queen Jellyfish decided to zap SpongeBob which caused him to scream and run to evade the Queen Jellyfish's attacks. When he was cornered at the edge of the cliff, SpongeBob then begs to the Queen Jellyfish that he would let her go. When SpongeBob began to beg, it was revealed that the Queen Jellyfish is a mechanical beast controlled by Kevin and the Jellyspotters with them sadistically laughing at SpongeBob's misery, revealing his true nature towards SpongeBob. When Kevin tells SpongeBob that he rejected the latter's appeal to join the Jellyspotters, SpongeBob is distraught, telling him that he was his biggest fan. This caused Kevin to tell SpongeBob that he already had several biggest fans living in the bottom of the cliff, still alive while yelling at him with praise, heavily implying that Kevin had pushed his previous biggest fans to the cliff for a long time. Afterwards, Kevin and the Jellyspotters then sadistically mock SpongeBob how much of a loser he is.
Unfortunately for Kevin and the Jellyspotters, a giant Jellyfish known as the King Jellyfish — Cnidaria Rex in his scientific name — arises from the cliff in time before their humiliation on SpongeBob reached its coup de grâce stage. Enamored with the Queen Jellyfish robot controlled by Kevin, the King attempts to kiss it which causes Kevin, the Jellyspotters and SpongeBob to run away from the King. However, Kevin ended up crashing his robot to the billboard sign that contains the advertisement of him promoting his ointment. After Kevin accidentally crashes into the billboard, the King's enamored expression suddenly becomes agitated after seeing Kevin. Afterwards, the King attempts to zap Kevin and the Jellyspotters as they end up retreating into a cave with SpongeBob with the king attempting to barge in. When Kevin thought that the king was gone, he then ordered one of the anchovy nerds to check if the king was gone or not. As the anchovies attempt to beg Kevin to save them, Kevin then tells the truth towards them that he's just in the club for the fashion and then reveals his cowardly nature, unable to do anything when the situation is dire. Although SpongeBob asked the anchovies for help first, he then ended up stepping outside and decided to help them on his own, by using his bubble technique to create a giant bubble pie that made the King enamored and get away. After seeing what happened, Kevin becomes enamored with SpongeBob's achievement of driving away the King Jellyfish. However, he still expresses his ungrateful side and still does not let SpongeBob enter the Jellyspotters group.
In the end, the anchovies are fed up with him and tear down the crown of his head while giving it to SpongeBob, putting him in excruciating pain as it is revealed that the crown is a part of his body, specifically his tentacle. Despite being accepted into the group, SpongeBob turns them down in the end because he believes Jellyfish Club should be about Jellyfish and not about Kevin.
In the episodes "Jelly Lodgers" and "The Flower Plot", members of the Jellyspotters make cameo appearances.
In "Mooned!", SpongeBob goes to the Jellyspotters Clubhouse to find Kevin, but he discovers that Patrick replaced him as the leader after he was kicked out years ago.
