~ Jeremiah greets Lazarus and Weasel Kid. |
Jeremiah is a major character in Daniel Mullin's second game, The Hex. He is Reggie's second in command. While he takes on an antagonistic role in the first half of the game, he slowly becomes an ally overtime. He appears in all flashback sequences.
Personality[]
Jeremiah is described as cold, and malevolent. There is little, if anything he won't do in order to support Reginald's plans, and often acts as a stand-in for Reginald when gathering the other characters. The vending machine radios imply that before he started working for Reggie, he desired something more. He is utterly uncaring to the ethicality of his plans, and could even be sadistic, nonchalantly tearing off the arm of one of the deceased Gameworks employees so that he may open the entrance to the NPC detention center of the Gameworks. His sadism often even makes Lazarus second-guess their mission, despite the latter eventually complying.
Biography[]
Root Beer Tender[]
Jeremiah was intended to be what would eventually become a groonda, but when Lionel was programming him he shutdown the software while saving, causing Jeremiah's code to glitch which turned him into what he is. Despite this, Jeremiah still saw use in Root Beer Tender, as he served as Reginald's janitor until it was eventually shut down by Irving who broke Reginald's legs and discarded his files, likely discarding Jeremiah's files as well.
Super Weasel Kid[]
Jeremiah stalked Weasel Kid, and antagonized him every now and then, intimidating him at the end of each game. He first meets Weasel Kid cloaked in a hood similar to what he wore in Root Beer Tender. He laments how Root Beer Tender can be replaced with what he perceives as trash. Despite this, he urges Weasel Kid to handle Mr. Shrewd with care, foreshadowing the latter's death. As he walks away, Weasel Kid tries to follow him but trips.
Weasel Kid continues to ignore this warning however, as his series fails and he plummets into obscurity, Jeremiah is last seen in Weasel Kid paying his respects at Mr. Shrewd's grave.
Combat Arena X[]
Jeremiah makes a brief appearance at the end of Combat Arena X. He leads Bryce to the Six Pint Inn and presumably hires him as Reggie's cook.
Secrets of Legendaria[]
Jeremiah makes another brief appearance in Secrets of Legendaria. During the battle between Lazarus, Chandrelle, and Irving, he saves the duo from Irving by steering Captain Barnay's ship out of the fog and into the kraken. When spoken to, he tells them of the Six Pint Inn.
Waste World[]
In Waste World, Jeremiah warns Rust and Rocky about the mods. He lets them know the game is unfinished, and that there's no salvation for Rust or Rocky past the point of the game they meet him at. After this, Rust and Rocky are subjected to various mods up until Carla51's boss rush mod, which secretly contains Sado. The Dark Clown eventually kills Rocky, driving Rust into insanity. When Jeremiah tries to elaborate with Rust, Rust shoots him in the chest. Frustrated, Jeremiah dismisses Rust as Rust is continuously tortured by mods. In the end, Jeremiah leads Rust to the Six Pint Inn.
Vicious Galaxy[]
Jeremiah takes on a much larger role in Vicious Galaxy. After gathering Weasel Kid and Lazarus, he convinces them to join him on a dangerous mission to breach the Gameworks and steal the Artifact. They oblige, along with two other characters; Junior, and Jay. When they arrive at the Gameworks, it plays out like an average session of Vicious Galaxy. they are attacked by a horde of Crypton Aliens which they shoot up until the horde runs low and they are able to breach the defense systems. When Lazarus helps Junior, he finds a skeletal body with an alien probe attached to the skull, reflecting on how cruel it is and noting how cold Jeremiah is. Junior dismisses these claims however, as they continue the job. When they regroup, Jay notes that Lazarus did most of the work for him and he was useless. Lazarus tries to claim otherwise in order to bargain for Jay's life, but Jeremiah, while hesitantly, reminds them of a vow before allowing Junior to shoot Jay dead.
The trio breaches the main halls of the Gameworks. The aliens try to reason with them, but Jeremiah, Junior, and Lazarus shoot all the aliens down before they can make peace. Eventually, they arrive at the end of the place and are encountered by an alien whom refers to them as criminals and demands them all to stop. This alien then reveals itself to be Irving, and then also proceeds to reveal to the player that all the other aliens were innocent employees of the Gameworks. Irving claims he thought Jeremiah above this, but then proceeds to mouth off to the player theirself, ignoring Jeremiah's attempts to reject his logic, and distracting the player from allowing Lazarus to shoot him despite Jeremiah commanding him to. Unbeknownst to Irving however, Weasel Kid who is also on the mission sets a bomb off in the building and the office is destroyed. Lazarus and Jeremiah touch base, as Lazarus reveals Junior was killed in the explosion. Jeremiah claims he is alright, and managed to grab onto a ledge.
After Lazarus gets the elevator working again, he is bombarded by a horde and forced to get off on Jeremiah's floor. While it appears they've been cornered, Jeremiah shows Lazarus a dismembered arm he tore off a dead body, much to Lazarus's disgust. He uses this arm to access the scan key for the entrance to the NPC detention center. Lazarus questions where they're going, and Jeremiah tells him of a particularly dangerous NPC at the end of the zone, sending Lazarus off to free this NPC. The NPC in question is in fact Sado, who while taking Lazarus to the Artifact, forces him into a fight. After the battle, Lazarus lets Jeremiah know that he's completed the mission.
Walk[]
Jeremiah's story is elaborated on by Catrina in Walk. He also appears at various points in the game, hinting at the player to follow his instructions to learn the truth about Lionel Snill as a developer. He also speeds up the game at a certain point to spare the player of Lionel's egocentric ramblings, and tells them to go through a glitched collision when they reach the end. If the player does this, Jeremiah will provide them a computer to play through Root Beer Tender and see what Irving did to Reginald to warrant their revenge. Recruiting not only the First Person Perspective Player, but also the player theirself.
Six Pint Inn[]
Jeremiah is seen throughout various parts of the Six Pint Inn, creeping around in the shadows until Rust is led to the top of the Inn, and finally meets Jeremiah once again. Jeremiah elaborates on their past and what is to come after showing Rust the Artifact. Once he is done, he reveals his true appearance and unhoods himself. He nearly reveals Reginald's name, before receiving a radio call to keep it secret. This call also reveals that Irving is paying the Inn a visit, as Reginald is cut off by knocking at the door.
Throughout the Inn, there are coins scattered around which can be used to access vending machines. The vending machines are really secret entrances to rooms with radios, giving bits of info on Jeremiah's backstory through rhymes and poems. When everyone is gathered up to perform the ritual to open The Hex, he brings the Artifact down with Rust and watches as everyone makes their vow and allows Reginald to enter the real world and meet his maker, Jeremiah having done his job serving his master.
Trivia[]
- He has a resemblance to the Mycologists from Inscryption.
- After Rust shoots him, he can be seen with a patch over the bullet hole in his cloak from that point forward.
