Jeremiah Otto, Sr. is a major antagonist in AMC's Fear The Walking Dead,. He is the leader of the Broke Jaw Ranch as well as the head patriarch of the Otto Family. A seemingly reasonable leader, it is shown that Otto is a racist and arrogant coward.
Jeremiah Otto Sr. is shown to be a spiteful, arrogant and cowardly Individual, hidden under a mask of reasonability and fair community leader. He is shown to be incredibly racist, to the likes of Ofelia and is revealed to have murdered Qaletaqa Walker’s uncle and father after he stole their land for his reservation community, which instigated the war that carried into the apocalypse. He is also shown to be abusive father and husband before the apocalypse, with an extreme drinking problem.
His friendships towards others, and his affability towards Madison is shown to be nothing more than a xenophobic superiority, showing no concern or sadness for his fallen co-leaders. It is shown that by the end of his life, Otto is purely cowardly and selfish individual, who refused to make amends or atone for his actions, and was willing to have his entire community die, including his sons, for being cowards.
Biography[]
Pre-Apoclypse[]
Not much is known about Otto’s life, except he lived in the Rurals of California, having married twice, including to a woman named Tracy, having 2 children from those marriages, Troy and Jake, in which he was a violent alcoholic who abused his family. During a certain time point, he founded the Broke Jaw Ranch with 3 other men, Phil McCarthy, Vernon Trimbol, and Russel Brown. They created a survival community which believed in the apocalypse and downfall of humanity. However, the land they took was from the Hopi Tribe, leading to a conflict, in which Jeremiah and his men killed 3 teenage Natives, including Qaletaqa’s uncle and father, burying their bodies under his house.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Jeremiah Otto and his family made a series of videos preparing for the end of the world.
At one point, the Black Hat Reservation began stealing from Broke Jaw Ranch and killing cattle. Jeremiah, along with Phil McCarthy, Vernon Trimbol, and Russell Brown, killed three of them.
During the apocalypse, he came across Ofelia Salazar and offered her water before leaving her on her own again.
Later, his son, Troy brings Madison Clark, her kids Nick and Alicia, and Luciana Galvez to the community.
During their stay, Madison finds out that the Broke Jaw Ranch is at war with the Black Hat Reservation led by Qaletaqa Walker.
While preparing for battle, Jeremiah is shot by Nick, and Madison brought his head to Walker for him to call off the tribal warpath.
