Jeremy Damien Frazier is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Rory) of Tim Burton's 2024 dark fantasy horror comedy film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice.
He was portrayed by Arthur Conti in his first villainous role.
Personality[]
At first glance, Jeremy is shown to be a good natured person as all he does is stay in his treehouse. However, his true nature is shown when he tricked Astrid into giving him her life. Despite being manipulative, he's shown to love Astrid by telling her he knows what it's like to have bad parents.
Appearance[]
He is shown to be a tall kid with short black hair, a red and black checker jacket with black undershirt and black pants and black and white sneakers.
Biography[]
Past[]
Jeremy was shown to be a troublesome boy in his teen years. On May 17, 2001, he killed his parents and when the police arrived to arrest him, he fell off his tree and broke his neck, causing him to die, but rather than crossing over, he instead is now trapped in his own home along with the ghosts of his parents who decide to ignore him and enjoy their afterlife, unable to leave past the tree he died from.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice[]
He first appeared when Astrid accidentally crashed into his fence and his treehouse, where she learned that he was reading the same kind of book she read before. Realizing that she can see him, Jeremy asked her to come over to his house again later in the day. Later he showed her his room where she learned that he had the l "Handbook for the Recently Deceased", where he claimed to have bought it from a yard sale. Jeremy then invited her to come over for Halloween to hang out, which she agreed to.
That night after Lydia dropped Astrid off at Jeremy's home, the two had a moment where they kissed and started floating around, revealing that Jeremy's a ghost (which Astrid thought they didn't exist). Jeremy then revealed that he can help both him and Astrid (with one being to bring him back and the other for Astrid to see her father). Jeremy then drew a door on the wall and after Astrid recited an incantation from the book that will allow her to enter the netherworld, Jeremy took her to a office where it was revealed that the deal was that in order to Jeremy to return to the living, he had Astrid to give up her life, where she would be placed in the soul train to the great beyond.
Jeremy was last seen getting his ticket stamp in order to return home, only to learn that Betelgeuse was the one who stamped his ticket, resulted in him being sent to Hell while Astrid got her life back.
Quotes[]
“ | Well, It's real simple. Remember the chant I got you to recite? You agreed to swap your life for mine. I needed your life, so that I can walk free again. | „ |
~ Jeremy revealing his intentions to Astrid. |
“ | You're too late, man. | „ |
~ Jeremy to Richard, as his passport was stamped by Betelgeuse which were also his last words before he got sent to Hell. |
Trivia[]
- There were clues that indicated that Jeremy was a ghost and not alive before the big reveal.
- He wore the same clothes that he died in for almost two days after Astrid crashed into his tree.
- He had a copy of "The Handbook for the Recently Deceased" and claimed to have bought it in a yard sale, despite the fact that the book is given to someone who died and that it was against the law of the netherworld to give away the book.
- When Astrid first meets Jeremy by crashing through his fence, he comments that his parents wouldn't even notice it. That's because his parents are dead, and their ghosts are unaware of reality around them.
- When Jeremy learns that Lydia Deetz is Astrid's mom and he calls Lydia a "legend", Astrid assumes it was due to her TV show making her a local legend in Winter River, but he never mentioned her show. It's because Jeremy died long before her show existed, and since the television in his house is frozen on broadcasts that existed at that time, his comment implies that Lydia's become legendary amongst ghosts.
- When Astrid and Jeremy first enter the house and interact with his parents, their faces are very conspicuously kept in shadow so neither Astrid nor the audience can see them. That's because their ghosts still have the weapons Jeremy used to murder them embedded in their faces.
- What quick shots we see of the interior of his house, including his kitchen and living room, show that there's nothing of 2024-modern-day technology or aesthetics: faux-'50s retro kitchen design, dark wood panel walls, a CRT TV playing Wheel of Fortune, and Jeremy's record collection being no later than '90s music bands.
- As he jokes that his parents think his James Dean costume looks more like Richie Cunningham, Astrid balks a little, unfamiliar with the reference. Having grown up in the 70's, Jeremy's parents would have seen the show in its original run, and reruns were still regularly airing on Nick at Nite and elsewhere at the time of his death.
- Lydia mentions early on that her gift for seeing ghosts first manifested when she was around Astrid's age. Astrid similarly starts seeing ghosts a day later.
- His house is conspicuously the only one without any Halloween decorations, which Lydia finds odd.
- Jeremy never leaves his house or its yard (plus treehouse) because he can't, just like the Maitlands were confined to their house.
- He said to have died 23 years, five months, and 14 days prior to the film's setting. The day he told Astrid this was on October 31, 2024, therefore setting his death date on May 17, 2001.
