Jerry Ying is a major antagonist from John Woo Presents Stranglehold. He was a Hong Kong police officer, a former partner of Inspector Tequila, and secretly a man of the Dragon Claw and James Wong.
Biography[]
Jerry Ying was a police officer who worked for the Hong Kong Police. He and the other policeman, Inspector Tequila Yuen, were long time partners, but later they parted ways and worked separately, but were still friendly with each other. One day, a policeman was killed in the Hong Kong marketplace, and the perpetrator was Lok, who was the right-hand man of the Golden Kane's leader, Yung Gi. Then at the police station, Jerry and Tequila met again, in Chief Lee's office, who was listening to a blackmail recording on his phone about the missing policeman. The police chief wanted to send an entire swat team to find the missing policeman, but Tequila wanted to go to the scene alone, Jerry thought it was a suicide, but his partner didn't listen to him. At the market, Tequila fought the thugs of the Golden Kane and found out that the missing policeman had been killed, and went to a tea house called the Golden Rabbit. Here he killed some members of another Triad, the Imperial 9s, as well as members of the Golden Kane and one of their leaders, Kwong Fang.
He then went to Tai O, where the Golden Kane attempted to take control of the village, but Tequila killed quite many members and even sank their ships. A fisherman then took him to a ship, it was the King James, on which was James Wong, the leader of Dragon Claw, perhaps Hong Kong's biggest crime lord. On the ship, Jerry sneaked up behind him and held a gun to his partner's head, who was a little surprised as to what he was doing here. Jerry was working as a double agent, secretly working for Wong, but Tequila here believed that he was only acting in the interest and on behalf of the police. On the ship, he spoke with Wong, who was not on very good terms with Tequila, as he had killed his son Johhny Wong a long time ago, and the crime lord had prevented the policeman from being with his daughter and had brutally beaten him with his men. Wong said he needed help because the case of the policeman killed in the Hong Kong marketplace is believed to have been done by the Dragon Claw. He also told him about the Golden Kane and the Zakarov brothers, but Tequila was reluctant as to why he should help his archenemy. Then Jerry showed a video on his mobile that showed Damon Zakarov with Tequila's love Billie and their daughter Teko. The Russian mafia leader kidnapped them and threatened Wong, but he didn't want Tequila to see the entire recording, so Jerry stopped it halfway through. The inspector reluctantly accepted the offer to help Wong.
Tequila and Jerry then worked together again and were partners. There was a huge shipment of heroin in the port, which they had to blow up. Jerry marked the spots where Tequila placed C4 bombs as he killed more henchmen of the Golden Kane. When he had placed the last bomb, a police boat came to pick him up, and Chief Lee was waiting on it. However, Tequila was quite upset because his boss didn't tell him that Jerry was a double agent, so he had to know about his family as well. He returned his badge to the boss, detonated the bombs, and then decided to work for Wong and help Jerry with further plans.
Together, the two planned to attack Golden Kane. Jerry brought two guitar cases with him, but they contained weapons, which he handed over to Tequila. Jerry fought outside and Tequila inside, however, the Imperial 9s thugs intervened in the fight, and they broke into the restaurant with a boat, but were killed by the two policemen. Meanwhile, Yung Gi and Lok negotiated with the Zakarov brothers about the business and the two girls, but the negotiation ended unexpectedly due to the action of the two police officers. Yung traveled to Chicago while Lok stayed behind to kill Tequila, but he was killed in the fight and the Mega Restaurant was blown up by the Imperial 9s.
Jerry and Tequila then traveled to Chicago where they found the Zakarov’s Penthouse and went to the parking lot. However, it was a little suspicious to Tequila that Jerry was texting someone with a serious face on his mobile. He then said that Wong would like to be notified of the events and that would further enhance Jerry's cover. Tequila found this a bit strange, but he didn't care. He said he would take care of the lower level and Jerry would take care of the stairwell. But while Tequila was doing well, Jerry's hand was injured and he was captured and locked in a room. At that time, however, Tequila caused serious destruction and killed Vlad Zakarov, and then freed his partner after the extremely destructive fight.
He then went to the Chicago History Museum where Damon Zakarov and Yung were with the two girls. However, the Russian crime lord got angry because of his brother's death and Yung could only take Teko with him, Billie had to stay. Then Tequila appeared and chased Damon and Billie for a while while also wreaking havoc in the museum. Secretly, however, Jerry was also at the museum because he believed the time had come to carry out Wong's real order. After Tequila killed Damon, he approached his lover, who was very scared when he found out that the inpsector was sent by his father. Then Jerry entered through one of the doors and started shooting them both with two pistols. Billie was hit by a bullet, but Tequila fired back and Jerry was injured and fell to the floor. However, he did not die, after Billie succumbed to her injuries Jerry tried to escape as he fired at Tequila again and he shot back at him. He started chasing the traitor, while he had to continue fighting against Zakarov's remaining minions. Jerry later, when they begin the tru fight against each other revealed that Wong wanted her dead and wanted the inspector's dead too, and he also revealed that he had been on Wong's side all along and didn't care about the police, only business. After that, he fled for a while, and finally the final fight between the two took place in the Indian section. Since Jerry was as acrobatic, skilled and experienced as Tequila, he was a serious and quite dangerous opponent, but after a fierce battle, he eventually collapsed after several shots and injuries.

After the fight, Tequila found Jerry's mobile on the floor with Damon's entire video message on it. The video revealed that Damon's real goal was to blackmail Wong or he and Billi will reveal the names of the politicians, corrupt cops and leaders who secretly supported Wong in Hong Kong. Then Wong wrote a message and Tequila sent fake replies on Jerry's behalf. At that point, Jerry was surprisingly still able to get up and was about to shoot with his pistol, but he was already too weak and he had no more bullets, and he finally died.

Jerry and Tequila seemed to be good friends. Compared to his partner, he was more cautious, doubtful and attentive, but sometimes he also liked daring or doubtful situations. After his betrayal, it became certain that Jerry is actually only interested in business and money and fights on Wong's side because he paid him more.
