That's the price of freedom.
~ Jet to Katara.

Jet is a minor antagonist in the 2024 Netflix adventure fantasy series Avatar: The Last Airbender, based on the animated series of the same name. He served as the main antagonist in "Omashu" and a minor character in "Into the Dark".

Following the loss of his parents, Jet developed deep resentment toward the Fire Nation and formed a group of revolutionary teenagers and children called the Freedom Fighters to fight against them.

When they arrive at Omashu Kingdom, Jet plans to kill King Bumi, whom he calls the "diseased heart" of the city, by planting a bomb on Sai's suitcase to have him blown up alongside the King, but it was later foiled by Katara, who used her waterbending to stop the explosion. Ultimately, he was left trapped in Sai's house after Katara froze him.

He is portrayed by Sebastian Amoruso.

Biography[]

Background[]

My mother was the fighter in our family. She taught me the blade, which, back then, was just a stick. When the Fire Nation came to our village, she held them off while my dad hid me in a well. I wanted to fight, but... he wouldn't let me. I was eight. And when I came back up... they were all gone.
~ Jet explained his backstory to Katara.

Jet is the son of a female fighter who taught him how to fight with a blade, though he only used a stick back then. When he was eight, the Fire Nation attacked his village. While his mother held them off, his father hid him in a well and prevented him from joining the fight despite his desire to do so. When he emerged, he discovered that his parents had been killed during the attack, an incident that caused him to grow resentful toward the Fire Nation and form a group of young children and teenagers who fought against them, called the Freedom Fighters.

Season 1[]

Omashu[]

When Team Avatar arrived in Omashu, they met a turnip farmer who helped them pass through the gates by disguising themselves as his relatives. Later, the turnip farmer met Katara again while she was spying on Sai and the Fire Nation spy, revealed what they were doing, and after revealing his disguise, introduced himself as Jet.

When they reached the woods, Katara and Jet were encountered by the Fire Nation spy and his men, and they fought against them until Jet's friends arrived to help. He ordered them to dispose of the Fire Nation spies and then brought Katara to the Freedom Fighters' hideout, where they shared their respective backstories. He helped Katara learn to control her waterbending by thinking about her mother in a better way, which helped her perform the Water Whip correctly.

He planned to kill the King of Omashu, Bumi, by swapping Sai's suitcase with theirs to blow it up. When Katara met up with him, she was horrified to realize he was indeed the one behind the bombings and called him a "bad guy". As Katara left in disgust, Jet mocked her by telling her it was too late, but despite this, his plan was foiled thanks to Katara's intervention, using the Water Whip to stop the explosion.

Into the Dark[]

Later that night, Jet broke into Sai's house, where he encountered Katara again and called her out for "betraying" him. Katara called him out for almost getting innocent people killed and tried to reason with him, but Jet refused. Feeling betrayed, she knocked him out by freezing him, leaving him trapped inside Sai's house.
