Jim Montgomery is the main antagonist in the movie A Dog’s Purpose. He is businessman who got fired from his job and became an alcoholic. He is a drunk and an extremely abusive husband of Elizabeth, and the father of Ethan.
He was portrayed by Luke Kirby.
Biography[]
1961[]
Jim is a successful businessman who is working at his job and collecting coins. He has wife named Elizabeth and a son named Ethan. One day, Ethan and his mom rescue a stray puppy and bring him home. Ethan wants to adopt the puppy and his dad refuses, thinking that the puppy will cause trouble in the house, but sometime later his dad finally agrees to adopt him and named him Bailey.
Ethan’s dad is having dinner with his boss who he tries to impress with his collection of coins. Bailey swallows one of his coins and Ethan finds about it, while at dinner his boss mentions about his dad's coins. Ethan rushes outside and tells Bailey to poop out the coin. He does so, but as soon as they are about to return it Ethan’s dad starts showing his collection but distracts them, resulting in a fight. His boss leaves and Ethan’s dad is mad about the humiliation, but forgives them anyway.
1970[]
Years pass, and after several attempts at advancing in his job fail, he becomes an alcoholic. One night, Ethan’s drunken father becomes abusive towards his wife and son, Ethan then orders him to leave and never come again. Later at a football game Ethan’s dad is watching them, when Ethan and Hannah enter a nearby restaurant. Ethan is shocked to see his dad, who humiliates him, then Ethan and Hannah leave the restaurant and drive off.
Unknown fate[]
It is unknown what happened to Jim after his son grew up, but since his son is already old at the end of the sequel, Jim most likely died of old age.
