Background[]
Jimmy was born in Hell's Kitchen New York on June 7, 1952, to Margaret Conlon and an unnamed father. He has an older brother named Eddie. At some point in his youth he met and befriended another Irish youth from the neighborhood named Shawn Maguire. The two men would become inseparable from that point on, doing everything together.
One night in the summer of 1970 both young men had a night of drinking with two women from the neighborhood Jenny Blake with Shawn and Maureen Galvin with Jimmy, while both young men were having sex with the woman Shawn's father came home and yelled "who's been drinking my scotch". This caused Jenny to become frightened and smack her head on the bedpost knocking her unconscious.
It is implied that both men enlisted in the military together in the fall of 1970 and served in the Vietnam War. At some point in the mid to late 1970's Shawn would befriend a man named Pat Mullen and together with Jimmy would go to work with, then run the Irish Mob in New York. At some point in October 1984 Jimmy would commit his first murder for Shawn. From that point onward Jimmy would commit anywhere from 17 to 21 murders for Shawn. The most notorious of these would be the murder of his own cousin, Billy Conlon, in April 1988.
At some point in the 80's both Jimmy and Shawn would have sons, Michael and Danny, respectively. Jimmy loved Michael, though he was absent often from the home. Michael would describe how he and his mother would worry about Jimmy constantly, and often find guns all over the house.
At some point in the early 90's Jimmy would be arrested by a New York homicide task force led by Detective John Harding. However Shawn would come to the aid of his friend and rig the trial thus allowing Jimmy to get off free. However after the truth of Jimmy came out his entire family disowned him, leaving him with only Shawn. Jimmy would last see his son five years before the events of the film at the funeral of his ex wife. Jimmy would begin to be plagued with nightmares of all those he had murdered. He would become extremally depressed and remorseful for all that he had done, turning to alcohol to numb his pain.
Biography[]
On December 24, 2014, Jimmy awakes in a bar called The Abby and attempts to get an $800 loan from Shawn's son Danny to fix the heater at his house. Danny decides to give Jimmy the money in exchange for him being Santa at a Christmas party, which Jimmy begrudgingly agrees. At the party Jimmy is shown heavily intoxicated and attempts to hit on fellow mobster Frank's wife. Jimmy than burns his hand on the fireplace and is taken upstairs to sober up. While in the room Shawn comes to comfort Jimmy and find out what's going on. Jimmy tells him that his guilt will not let him sleep, and that he has no one left in his life because of the things he has done. Shawn comforts Jimmy and lets him know that, when they cross that line, they will go together.
Later that night Jimmy is seen drinking at a local restaurant, when Detective Harding comes in by chance and attempts to get Jimmy to tell him how many people he has murdered, while leaving Jimmy his business card. Jimmy sits at his house watching a hockey game until he gets a call from Shawn, who says that Jimmy's son Michael saw Daniel kill someone and asks him to tell his son to keep quiet. Jimmy grabs his gun from under the sink and drives to Michael's house. The two men share an awkward reunion in which Mike refuses to let Jimmy meet his granddaughters. Jimmy then leaves but notices Danny's car. He opens the door and shoots Danny before he is able to shoot Michael. Jimmy than calls Shawn and informs him that his son is dead.
Michael kicks Jimmy out of the house, but Jimmy waits outside until two corrupt cops working for Shawn kidnap Michael. Jimmy chases them down and runs them off the road, killing both cops, and he and his son flee into the subway, followed by Frank and another of Shawn's goons. Jimmy is separated from Michael and gets into a vicious fight with Frank until he gains the upper hand and strangles Frank to death. Jimmy than tells Michael to gather his family and take them to a cabin in upstate New York while he goes to Shawn to work out their problem. While on his way to meet Shawn, Jimmy calls Harding and makes a deal with him. He will give him all the names of those he killed in exchange for saving Michael. Jimmy then meets with Shawn and begs him for his son's life but Shawn refuses. Jimmy than leaves followed closely by Shawn's goons but Jimmy escapes and meets up with Michael. While Michael's family flee to the cabin, the two men go to the projects to find a kid named Legs who witnessed the murder with Michael. While at the projects Shawn hires a ruthless hitman named Andrew Price to kill the two men. Jimmy and Michael move through the apartment and eventually find Leg's brother but not before the cops are called and begin to evacuate the building. The two men then make their way downstairs where Price attempts to kill them both. Jimmy then fights with Price until Mike comes to save him but the cops interrupt the confrontation allowing Michael and Jimmy to escape and seek refuge at Jimmy's brother Eddie's house. While there Eddie reveals that Jimmy had killed his own cousin and Michael leaves for the cabin. Jimmy then visits his mother at the hospital and writes a list of all the people he murdered. He then calls Shawn and tells him that he's coming after him and storms The Abby killing everyone inside including Pat. He than chases Shawn into a train yard where he manage to shoot him. Jimmy than comforts Shawn before he dies in his arms. Jimmy then meets Michael at the cabin and says that he'll tell the cops everything and Michael introduces his father to his children and his wife. While the family goes out to feed ducks Jimmy stays behind to rest he is then shot in the back by Price. Price then goes after Michael who shoots back. Jimmy with a rifle in hand chase price down and is shot again. Before Price can kill Michael, Jimmy manages to get up and kill Price before succumbing to his wounds and dying.

~ Jimmy talking to Shawn before storming The Abby |
Jimmy is presented at the beginning of the of the film as a rather pathetic man past his prime. He is extremely depressed and a massive alcoholic. However when pushed over the edge Jimmy is shown to be nothing like the pathetic man he seems as he is absolutley ruthless towards those that threaten him or his family. As shown in his fight with Frank who was much younger and bigger then him, Jimmy was able to hold his own and eventually kill Frank. He was also able to kill multiple people within a bar without even being shot or injured. Jimmy in his past was the most feared man in New York and rightly so. However Jimmy genuinely regrets his own actions and wants nothing more than to make things right with those he's hurt in his life as shown when he did everything he could to save his son from Shawn. Jimmy is also extremely loyal to his family and Shawn as shown when even when he's about to kill Shawn he hesitates and then comforted him before he died. Jimmy is a very complex man who made many mistakes in his life but wasn't an evil monster as he let his good side shine through in the end.
