Biography[]
Jimmy Tyron is a respected police lieutenant and a father of two. In spite of his reputation as a family man, he had an affair with Detective Kay Howard. However, he quickly ended their relationship after being called by his wife.
During a raid on a crackhouse, Tyron and his men arrest drug dealers Lane Staley and Charles Courtland "C.C." Cox. When Cox runs away in spite of being handcuffed, Tyron shot him in the back. Tyron quickly covered up the crime and had rookie patrolman Fred Hellriegel take the blame for shooting Cox.
Although Frank Pembleton, the primary investigating officer, believes Tyron to be guilty, he faces severe pushback from Tyron's colleagues and his own even after a gunpowder residual test proves Hellriegel innocent. After a confession from Staley, Pembleton and his partner Tim Bayliss arrive at Tyron's house to arrest him. Tyron agrees to come quietly so long as they don't arrest him in front of his family, and the two officers comply.
